Intelligence test - who would you choose?

JD #1 - Lead-off linchpin of first Sox world championship team in 86 years. 2005: 4 years/$52MM from NYY.

JD #2 - Pedigreed pine pony who's averaged 120 games/year over last 8 years. 2006: 5 years/$70MM from BOS.

And they say that Tom Hicks is an easy mark for Scott Boras. I don't know whether to shit or go blind...

Admittedly doesn't compare well, Yaz. But this offseason is not last offseason. Whether Drew's a good deal now ultimately has nothing to do with whether Damon was a mistake.

yaz-tex-Damon and Drew are different types of players. You wouldn't bat Damon behind Manny, nor would you lead off with Drew. You wouldn't play Damon in RF, but you could play Drew in either CF or right. Comparing their hitting stats for the last 3 years is tough because Drew missed almost 90 games in 05 (HBP). He outhits Damon by about 100 points in OPS, and his best year by far was 04 in Atlanta when his skills were complimented by the rest of the lineup. Obviously, the Sox are gambling big-time that his injury history is down to bad luck rather than a chronic condition. I've always said that I like Drew as long as he's not Manny's replacement. And comparing last year's FA market to now is simply not valid. New CBA, new Lux Tax ceiling, new TV contract, no apparent saturation of the 'gear' market. I won't even mention whose money it's not. To answer your question, right now, I'll take Drew.
As for Lugo, I just hope he scores 120 runs and makes his 20 throwing errors in the first inning with nobody on.
As long as Manny is staying, it appears that Theo and co. are going for it this year. Mark me down as can't wait for the season to start.
BTW, excellent news on Mr. Lester.
