Just a quick but heartfelt thank you to everyone for taking the time to come here every day (or however often you click). It's a big internet out there and I appreciate the support.
Special thanks to the growing community of JoS commenters. The game threads didn't get off the ground until this past May, but they have become one of the biggest joys of writing the blog. I'm looking forward to our first full season of game threads -- with the nicknames, pep talks and general silliness -- as we defend our World Series title in 2008!

And now to bed to get some much-needed rest.
The appreciation is certainly returned in spades. What a year. What a fun hangout to spend it in.
Alan - just want to let you know that I, too, have enjoyed reading your blog this past year. You did a fantastic job keeping up with everything that happened with the Sox this season. I look forward to more of the same next year! Enjoy that much needed rest - I'm going to try and get some myself! - Jeff Moon, FenwayFanatics.com
First big splash in the Hot Stove to wake you up with in the morning:
The Braves have traded Edgar Renteria to the Tigers for two prospects and cash. Should prove to be a good move for the Tigers and for Renteria. I don't think he'll have any ill-effects like he did in Boston.

Tigers gave up RHP Jair Jurrjens and minor league OF Gorkys Hernandez.
With Dombrowski running the front office and current Tigers manager Jim Leyland in the dugout for the Florida Marlins, Renteria ended a thrilling World Series Game 7 in 1997. His hit with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning gave Florida its first World Series championship with a 3-2 win over the Cleveland Indians.
"I'm real happy to be a Detroit Tiger player," Renteria said. "I know Dave and Jim Leyland and I think I'm going to be comfortable in Detroit."
Leyland said the Tigers are "thrilled to death" to add Renteria.
"He was a part of the biggest night of my life in 1997," Leyland said. "To be reunited with Edgar is a thrill."
Surprised to see Atlanta give him up so easily, but one pressing need the Braves have is starting pitching.
yes oh
Folks, I'm working most evening but I Tivo all the Sox games and watch them late or the next day. And when I get a chance to catch up on the game threads its like I Tivo'd a night of enjoying the game with friends.
Kudos to all the commenters for putting in their energy, and on top to RS for giving me all the more reason to love the sox.
Hey, I just wanted to say congrats-the Red Sox were truly the best team in the majors this season-and more importantly-your blog is great. Despite being a Yankee fan, I find myself checking it every once and a while, and I always enjoy what I read.
Your beat writer interviews from three years ago were great too. Keep up the work, and good luck to you.
Hell ya! It's been fun.
Have a great off-season everyone. I'm grateful for the site - this is where I now get most of my Red Sox news.
It's us who should be thanking you.
So...thank you. :)
Came home and watched the plane landing / bus arrival to the fens only to find myself asleep on the couch hours later. Never has exhaustion felt so goooood!!
2007 World Series Champions!!!

Let me also offer my thanks and appreciate to Alan for all the great work he does on this blog. It's the first Red Sox site I visit every day, and I always enjoy reading the game recaps, news roundups, commentaries, and statistic-based articles here every day. You deserve some rest.
Thank you RS
Hands down the best blog on the internet. I check it multiple times everyday.
Your good Karma factored in Sox's win.!
Now if A-Rod takes a pay cut to come and play SS here, and bats behind Tizzle and MBM . Doc and JDD behind him. Then that would be something I will look forward to, even if I hate that A-Rod.
A double whammy to sink those Yankees and all its facilitators and apologists dressed up as media.
*blush*
Thanks tdcg. I'm proud to be a bench coach here.
This is now the first site I go to everyday. It's been so much fun this season reading your blog along with everyone's comments. For someone now living outside of New England, reading the comments makes me feel like I'm back in Boston listening to bar conversations during a game. It's been a great season and I'm looking forward to the off-season with you all - and of course the title defense! Thanks!
