Red Sox - 001 300 202 - 8 15 1Wakefield (2.2-7-7-2-2, 74) put the Sox in an early 7-1 hole, but the bats would not give up.
Twins - 052 100 10x - 9 10 1
In the fourth, Crisp's leadoff triple and singles from Cash, Cora and Youkilis closed the gap to 7-4. Ococ then smacked a two-run home run to right-center in the seventh to bring the Sox to within two runs, 8-6.
Aardsma did good work, holding Minnesota scoreless in the fifth and sixth. But then Timlin came on for the bottom of the seventh and served up a home run to Monroe (who had opened the Twins scoring with a three-run dong in the second). Twins 9-6. But after the first-batter bomb, Old Yeller retired the next five batters on only 11 pitches, thus probably earning another appearance or three in Tito's eyes.
Down by three and facing Nathan in the ninth, the Sox rallied. With one out, Youkilis and Lowell singled. Drew doubled over Gomez's head in center, bringing in Yook. With the tying run at second, Crisp lined the ball back at (and off) Nathan, who quickly grabbed the ball and was able to toss to third, nailing Drew, who had to hesitate before running in case the ball was caught. Lowell was able to score and the Sox trailed 9-8. With Manny batting for Cash, Ococ stole second, but Ramirez hit a routine grounder to short for the final out.
Tampa's 8-5 win over the Angels cut Boston's lead in the East to 1.5 games.

Don't you all have a feeling that Timlin or Taveras is going? I sure do. I think Hansen is ready, and he's too highly regarded to be the new Bryan Corey, shuttling back and forth. My guess is that Timlin's last hurrah has come and gone. The team is stronger with Hansen, and even the most sentimental Timlin-lovers would recognize that now.
From the Red Sox mlb.com preview:
RHP Nick Blackburn
Blackburn admits that he's not feeling comfortable on the mound right now. Partly to blame is a change in his stride. Last year, the pitcher lengthened his stride and subsequently threw 44 straight scoreless innings for Triple-A Rochester. Somehow over the course of the winter, that stride shortened. Blackburn is trying to relocate it in his bullpen sessions and side work. ... In his lone relief appearance against Boston last season, Blackburn gave up four runs in just one inning.

Lips maybe, in a trade.
Timlin? No.
Read that mlb preview, noticed it was written by Falkoff.
Don't you think you'd have picked up a pen name?
Falkoff
!
"What's your name?"
"Falk off!"
"That's not very nice."
"No, that my name."
"What is?"
"Falk off."
..
It's the next Who's On First.
No-heart M&M
Heart nationally broadcast baseball I can actually get on my tv.
Damn, no work all day, then a huge job comes in right before game time. I can listen while I work, but not thread. Much.
Yep, looks like I'm watching the entire Twins series on mute.
"Manny Ramirez is out of the lineup with sore right hamstring. Manager Terry Francona said Ramirez phoned him this morning to tell him the hamstring was hurting after he ran hard to beat out a double-play ball in the 9th."
Casey not activated. Hansen still in pen.
Sox still talking with Rockies about dealing Sexy Lips. Maybe they deal Lips and Hansen can stay.
Manny can read up on "How to be a bad man" (by Man Ram), while he is out. It seems like he's forgotten.

See people it doesn't payoff to hustle.....
Did anyone else notice that Joe Mauer with a guy on first gives signs like there is a guy on second?

Then who is the long man?
FY with the 8-pitch AB and single. Leads the AL with 51 hits.

Folowing Ellsbury's 1 pitch at bat
Then who is the long man?
I'll let Andy answer that one.
What happened to Flo? My computer pooped out...
Doctor, this rally needs some CPR.
Flo - line drive single to right, 1 & 2.
Youk, "FUCK!"

Ouch... I'm not down with the LOB
And the Red Sox strand a pair™.
I realize some of you are watching this on tv with the insufferable Joe Morgan.
I feel for you.
Wake's
ERA: 3.33
Opp avg: .222
Amazing Wake can get away with 4 consecutive "fastballs"
Nothing upsets me like first pitch outs. ESPECIALLY in the players first at bat.
first pitch single
and
3-0 double?
come on!
Cheer while you can, St. Paul.
everett hits a dong? that's bullshit. ... 5-0.
tim, could you get the second out please?
When do we pull Wake?
I remember the last Wake outing people were all over this guy's nuts. I said yes he is good SOMETIMES, but I know what to expect the next couple games. This is what I was saying. I am really sorry for my comment here but, Wakefield pitches like a softball pitcher. Its relative. A ball going that slow is going to get hit more than it isn't by professionals.
when they get 7, tito might get someone warming.
now wake retires 15 in a row...
It's one game. not the end of the world. It's just one of the few games that I get on HD. I hate wasting it on this fucking guy. At least lugo is out. But i am against Cora over Lowrie. I say let the same thing happen to Lowrie that happened to Ellsbury. The guy comes up, does awesome, let the confidence build by not sending him down and you get a new starter.
A ball going that slow is going to get hit more than it isn't by professionals.
Anybody got data on what % of Wakefield's pitches are put it play and what % are missed -- and how that compares to other pitchers?
I'm skeptical there is much of a difference.
I don't care if wake retires the rest of the game. You dont let the other team score 5 in an inning. Now the offense has to do something. Which it often times does. So this Wake game and last he will average out.
So Andy, you're telling me you didn't pick up Wakefield after his last outing?
Well it may be the same sock but if you can get a good read on a pitch because it is going so slow and hit it out of the park then it is better to be able to pitch shitty and fast.
did i make sense, I am drinking my 3rd glass of wine?
Hey! Don't be throwing at my Lyndon!
LBJ HBP, inside of left knee. he's hurting.
I did not say anything good will be coming out of wakefield after his last game. I do not like his games anymore. He was fun in the 2004 and earlier era but now he is done.
okay, lyndon, time to play hurt.
He will steal 2nd and 3rd now.
FY HBP
WTF?
Benches clear?
BTW no warning will come until we hit someone.
Dustin's face is awesome in slo-mo
I'd prefer Base on Balls
Come on tizzle help bail this old guy out.
did i make sense, I am drinking my 3rd glass of wine?
that doesn't make much sense to me, but i don't think it's the wine -- which i wish i also had some of.
was jacoby limping on that run to 3rd?
5 runs is in no way out of reach. I just wish it wasn't so early.
NO!
You dont let the other team score 5 in an inning
See, now, there's your problem right there. Don't allow runs.
Doctor.
So any idea what "considerations" we are getting from Sand Diego for No Lips?
3.95 ERA for Wakefield in 11 starts at the HH dome. This is now his 3rd worst start at the dome, once he went 3 1/3 gave up 7 runs (7/25/96) and 5 1/3 he gave up 6 runs (4/26/99).
In those 11 starts he went 70 2/3 innings and only gave up 6 home runs. As for balls in play. I am not for sure but we should be able to find it somewhere.
Oh, yeah, you are not going to throw out LBJ!!!
Are you at work Mr. Sock?
if you're gonna be down by 5, the earlier the better, no?
lyndon must be hurt -- no way that should have been that close.
I guess he is ok now with playing sore.
One run isn't enough. Give me J.D. DONG! I am getting antsy
Drew:
2 PA, 2 pitches, 2 outs.
fuck.
Ehhh, all things considered, we did get a run.
The Drew fire is smoldering.
I am at my place of employment, yes.
It is hard being a fan of this team nowadays. We have seen such excellence and success that anything less than a blow out is a loss.
I've been spoiled by all of our winning...

hmmmm.
Thank you Allan. It's what really, really upsets me.
Hey all.
I picked a fine game to see, eh? Got to watch the the 5 runs, missed the two HBP, but have seen the rest since.
Already I'm pondering another miracle.
2 games on one field dont make an era. He Sucks now i dont care what happens now.
Sigh.
It might be a good game. To early to tell.
PULL HIM
whoops! didn't check who was logged in on this computer. "jennifer" is me.
4 freaking passed balls?
I'm about happy to see Lips at this point.
I know 2 games don't make an era, but I don't think he has changed that much over his career.
He's had good years and he's had bad years and he's had average years. Good games and games in which he gets hammered.
When he was the closer, that was torture!!!

Really....shitty and fast.....Wakefield has spent 16 years in the bigs made over 40 million dollars , won 2 rings ,
The list can be quite long of guys who pitch shitty and fast....It's just sophmoric to think if you throw fast that equates into success......
erase the passed ball!
i'm curious -- has there been any pen action?
well, here is lips, so that answers that.
Ouch. They're testing our faith.
lips - opponents hitting .370.
no worries - batters are hitting .370 off lips.
That might've been out at Coors.
always a pleasure when I hit the same point as redsock.
Wake's
ERA: 3.33
Opp avg: .222
And after tonight's line of
2.2-7-7-7-2-2
his ERA is 4.44!
well, this game in certainly in the shitter.
but ... another mom's day comeback?
I love palindromes! and spoonerisms.
spalindromes and poonerisms.
ococ says fuck you to the gloomers.
Someone really smart said that after 7 runs allowed Tito will pull him. Thank you.
Is Coco a better part-time player than a starter......It would seem so .....the wya he has been hitting he should at least get 3-4 starts a week....
Cash: "ka-ching, motherfucker."
If I didn't think we could win, I wouldn't be here.
last 4 pitches
triple
ball
single
single
me likey.
I actually wrote a comment that went like this, " I wish I were wakefield because he makes a lot of money." I erased it and did not post it.
Then Casey said what he said. I was there Casey. Good point.
his ERA is 4.44!
The joys of early season. One bad outing can really kill you.
Need FY to come through here!
Someone really smart said that after 7 runs allowed Tito will pull him. Thank you.
That was me -- though I said at 7, he'd get someone up in the pen. Close enuff.
That's a good point Casey. He seems very fragile, going down often with bugs and bruises. Maybe he needs to calm his ego, and be on the bench of a WS team.
"fleet-footed pedroia"...
A Dominican dong could put me to ease.
I think tito has to change gameplan now , and yank lips......this one is far from over...
yook can make it a 7-6 game.
A sweaty dong would have a similar effect.
think tito has to change gameplan now , and yank lips......
a third pitcher at the start of the 4th? who?
BWAHAHAHAH! Cheer while you can, Minneapolis. Cheer while you can.
another mommy's day comeback. no problem.
nick: me too. palindrome freak. i even blog about them.
i'm going to have so much later this season jumping around saying I TOLD YOU SO.
These guys are what I call good. If Wakefield hadnt allowed all those runs then this would be a blow out. If he only could have kept it an average outing. I am really ok with Wake giving up 4 every game.
Argh! O well.
I do need to say this, In every Wake game I am ostracized for my dislike of wakefield. Often times it is with numbers that you all are more than willing to give. I do want to make the point that I am never happy with a wake start even when he is good.
If Wakefield hadnt allowed all those runs then this would be a blow out.
Look. It happens. Clay crapped the cot* in Detroit.
*: Thanks, Jere.
doh! well, we keep inch up.
Hi, l-girl. I haven't seen those posts. I'll search 'em out.
Emma also digs palindromes an spoonerisms. I like when my kid has the same enthusiasms as me. .. .well maybe she's doomed to be a dork too. but that's ok.
In every Wake game I am ostracized for my dislike of wakefield.
Well, in my view, you concentrate solely on the negative.
Then again, I do that with Timlin, so maybe I should leave you alone. :>)
Tito will kick Papi's ass.
Yeah we each have our Achilles Player. Well I have Timlin, Wakefield and Lugo. You just have Lugo and Timlin. Are there others Allan?
No one here is ever ostracized. People may disagree, but no one has ever been ostracized at JoS.
We have enough trouble getting people to ignore trolls! Who ever could ignore you, Andy?
Belli was on my list.
Did Lowrie get sent down? I would assume that with Cory being traded that Jedi would be taking the shuttle, but if they haven't activated Casey, are they waiting on seeing how Lugo is going to be and keeping the Jedi on hand just in case Lugo can't go the next few games?
Nick, the category might be word play.
Re being a dork, if you make it out of jr high alive, you're golden. After that your liabilities become your strengths.
bowling for outs!
next, golfing for runs!
Hoolian bowling league.
Andy, I swear I am not piling on, but I went to look at Wake's 2004 game log, and there are more than a few seriously fugly outings there.
I like Mike Lowell's flat smile. He reminds me of a toad.
Lowrie was sent down when Cora was activated.
They may be waiting on Casey to see if anything happens with a Lips trade, then perhaps Hansen would stay after all.
I'm leaving work now. Score predictions for when I get home? 20-25 mins from now.
10-8, L. You know who.
score?
twins 8, sox 7
aaardvaaark up.
I'll go with Patrick's prediction, 10-8. See you later!
fuck.
Sigh. I hate this dome.
Where's the toad instincts there!
Lowell's got a case of Lugoitis.
Alright there's the 8 part. Let's get the 7 now.
alright, now that that pain has abated a bit...
via a link on WMTC (nice plates, btw), here's a crazy palindrome.
GDGD's still on the Monroe atbat.
Gagne getting paid a lot to not close
Palindromes with proper nouns are cheating.
I wonder how the Yahoo and ESPN feeds work, because both of them are stuck right now on the Delmon Young at bat.
Going back a bit, anyone else think Lyndon had a good shot at catching Everett's 2-run dong? I saw the reply only once, but it looked like he could have caught it.
Hurray for solid relief!
what in FUCK is joe rambling on about? when yr at the plate yr prolly not thinking, you don't have time to think; it's a right-brained activity.
go sox!
yeah, I saw the replay at the time. It was awfully close, I think he could have caught it, but if he had it would've be quite remarkable. what kind of jump did he have on that? Was he stuck on that or just didn't gauge it perfectly?
I don't criticize him for not catching that one, though.
will you take a fucking pitch, lyndon??? damn.
Ughh, I need Jacoby to get me one steal today.
productive out?
"my fucking ass" (/elia)
Dominican love please!
Well duck a fuck.
I wish I had a stocked dugout right now that I could freak out in. I'd be throwing helmets and kicking bat racks.
again, i saw the one replay a few innings ago, but it looked like he timed his leap early and was a bit to the right of where the ball hit the top of the wall.
yeah, a great catch, but it looked like his glove was high enough when he was leaping nearby.
do we want the rays to be only 1.5 GB us tomorrow morning?
no, we do not.
timlin up -- yee-haw.
Morneau looks like Matt Damon in the Bourne movies.
oh shit fuck me its timlin
Aaardsma seriously just threw 2 scoreless innings? That's just spectacular!
It seems silly to think of Taverez as a 'long man', when he rarely gets 6 outs.
This dome is so shitty that it doesn't even have bullpens. I hate this place.
on smoldering!!!
Two games in a row?
!!!ocoC
oCoC!!!!!!!
I just had to come in and say that :)
OMG!
JESUS CHRIST! CHOCOLATE DONG!
crispy dong
We have a ballgame.
(Back to the den now)
Evening chaps.
Turned off the TV out in the living room, went to the bathroom, walked in... and boof. 8-6.
I like it. More plz.
COME ON! WE CAN DO THIS!
that 8-7 prediction is looking ever more real.
One of the best things about LBJ is the effect the competition seems to have on oCoC... play 'em right and we win all around. (other than all the other great things about LBJ).
crispy dong
quick fried to a crackly crunch?
Oh My! That was exactly what I needed.
BTW, you'd best be singing along to god bless america. Big brother is watching.
Alright Mike -- we're down by 2 with 6 outs to play with.
Gotta hold 'em here, for sure. I want to believe -- show me what you got!
Well, Allan was closer than Patrick, but I think Patrick will prevail. Turned on the TV just in time to see Ococ high-fiving in the dugout.
batting avg vs timlin: .455
Twins announcers:
"Aardsma back out...is that Aardsma?"
"Mike Timlin"
"Timlin is in, Aardsma going just one inning"
"Two innings"
"Aardsma going two innings."
So, picked a good time to come in.
Saw the 1st inning, then went over to see Mom, who had just gotten home from a daytrip.
Came home in time to catch that last inning, and enjoyed it immensly.
Now repeat, plz.
palindromes with proper names are not cheating.
(and thanks, we love the plates!)
Fragging kidding me
wtf
White Flag strikes again.
Earlier I heard Joe Morgan call Ellsbury, Ellsworth.
TIMLIN NEEDS TO HUNT HIMSELF!
Ugh we both failed.
thanks mike -- that's what i thought you had left.
fucking nothing.
turn in the uniform and get the fuck off the team
SHIT!
Why White Flag?
Morgan - "I don't know what kind of ball this was...."
It's called a batting practice ball!
Saw an old lady with a Nixon jersey in Haverhill today. Was a funny surprise.
TIMLIN NEEDS TO HUNT HIMSELF!
priceless
and true
It's Old Yeller time.
Well the dynamic duo of wake and timlin have done it again. I love them. Stats are so awesome. Stats are a measurement of yesterday. This is now and these guys are fucking done.
what do lugo and timlin have in common?
I FUCKING HATE THEM BOTH
ellsworth? yeesh
three run bomb from 'Tiz will tie us up.
i fucking hate mike timlin
i don't care what he does in his spare time or what fascist he votes for. i just want him the hell off of my team.
what's got two thumbs and fucking hates lugo and timlin?
I do love the fact that this game is not over. this team is not out of it yet.
MILWAUKEE -- The Brewers yanked Eric Gagne from the closer's role on Sunday after the reliever called his latest performance embarrassing and said he didn't feel he deserved to pitch the ninth anymore.
Manager Ned Yost said he read Gagne's comments and will use a closer by committee approach while Gagne takes what Yost called a "mental break."
andy, timlin's stats are as good as he is.
Can I has a cheezburger... and 201?
