There will be a day-night doubleheader tomorrow (1:30 and 7:30), with the Johnny Pesky ceremony at 1:15.

Sidney Ponson (5.21, 83 ERA+) / Daisuke Matsuzaka (2.80, 163 ERA+)
In his last five starts -- 19 innings -- Ponson has allowed 35 hits, 11 walks and 25 runs. Batters are teeing off on him to the tune of a 1.116 OPS (.407/.465/.651).
Mike Lowell:
The swing doesn't hurt me. It's the non-swing. It's when I kind of start and stop, you recognize it's not a strike so you take the pitch. That's when I feel it grab. ... As I start to rotate my hips, it just catches. There's a sharp pain. ... I don't know how to avoid that. I can't go into the pitch predetermined I'm taking this one and I'm swinging at the other one.Francona said J.D. Drew went for some more tests on Friday
to rule out any orthopedic problems. All the blood work and scans came back reassuring. Trying to exhaust every possibility, just do our homework, and everything's come back very reassuring.Coco Crisp has not played since Tuesday because he got an injection in his left foot a few days ago and the foot has been tender.

Gameday has this lineup:
Kotsay, 1B
Lowrie, 2B
Ortiz, DH
Pedroia, 2B
Carter, LF
Varitek, C
Bailey, RF
Van Every, CF
Velazquez, SS
what is positive is that our hitters are seemingly getting hot at the right time (at least when the games counted for something).
So we are starting in an infield shift setup?
Lowrie, 3B!
Officially in a rain delay, with no anticipated start time announced.
But, at least those of us who can watch FOX will be able to watch baseball today. Not like NESN where they switch to rain delay programming. FOX will just switch to another game. I like that.
Globe (my emphasis):
Due to inclement weather, today's game will not start at the scheduled time of 3:55. The Red Sox "will do everything they can" to get the game in today. As for now, Daisuke Matsuzaka is still the starting pitcher. The Red Sox are expecting rain for the next few hours. We'll keep you posted.
FOX BETTER SWITCH TO THE BREWERS GAME!
Brewers here.
Betcha Nix, you'll be seeing the Phillies.
Although Nix, you could see the Brewers... Both games directly affect the New York market, if you're in New York today.
ish, brewers here in NY!
If the Twins/White Sox beat the Rays in the ALDS, and the Red Sox beat the Angels, who gets home field advantage? Red Sox have a better record, but are the wildcard and not a division winner.
Darryl Ward hits a 2-run dong to right, puts the Cubs on top of the Brewers 2-0.
wow, santana is a stud.
I believe that the WC can never have HFA.
Mets win 2-0
So that makes things a little more interesting now.
Brewers win today, they'll only need a win OR Mets loss tomorrow to win the wildcard.
Brewers lose today, it'll come down to tomorrow's play. One will have to win and one will have to lose, or they'll play Game #163.
Gabe Kapler doing the lineups for the Brewers on Fox.
i want a one game playoff.
i want a one game playoff.
Me too. MORE BASEBALL!
yesterday was so anticlimactic, today is paying off so far with that santana performance. hopefully this brewers game can keep up the drama.

In the news: Fear Strikes Out!
This is my favorite part of the baseball season. Four ALDS series to keep track of, and you can watch every game!
Wow. Ted Lilly hits a ground-rule double to right center field.
That was hit hard.
So weird to see Dale Sveum managing the Brewers.
beast moment in last years playoffs (besides us winning the whole goddamn fucking thing) was when lilly gave up that bomb and immediately threw his glove on the mound.
classic.
I remember that.
The Cubs were the underdogs then in the ALDS. One of those teams that just snuck in and was really cooked before they began.
If the Mets can get into this postseason, they'll be that team. Interestingly enough, the Rockies were perceived as a very good team going up against the Phillies last year. Even though the Phils were the favorites.
if the sox get rained out they wont play a double header tomorrow right, cause the games dont matter?
So far, there are 6 ALCS matchup scenarios, and 9 NLCS matchup scenarios.
Rays/Angels
Red Sox/Rays
Twins/Angels
Red Sox/Twins
White Sox/Angels
Red Sox/White Sox

I don't think this game will be made up.
it would be insane if there was a 1 game payoff in both leagues this year.
PLAYOFF, rather
Twins leading the Royals 1-0...
espn radio guy 1:
"you know those 1 game playoff scenarios never really happen"
espn radio guy 2:
"uh.. well.. it happened last year..."
25 World Series matchups possible now.
By the end of tomorrow, should be down to 16.
sheets coming up SMALL
4-0 Cubs. Oi for the Brewers.
Lilly almost hit a dong! Just foul.
Fox announcer: "I'm not sure what was in his breakfast today..."
Lilly's hitting the ball hard.
What the cock? Fox cuts to the Phillies game.
I am assuming the game never got under way.
Cubs - Red Sox. I can't wait!!
yeah same here ish. bullshit.
i have to listen to it on radio.
espn radio guys killing manny.
"if its true what i heard about those stories in boston about him picking the wrong knee for MRIs, than thats just wrong. Its hearsay, but from a good source.
I got over manny being manny being cute a long time ago. Im an old school guy"
WTF????
espn radio guys killing manny
Once Upon A Time ...
Who are the ESPN radio guys?
A little too far away here for ESPN 1050.
redsock, tell me about it. wasnt ted williams as much of a pain in the ass too?
ish, dont know who these cunts are...oh just came back from a break, one of 'em is dave cambell.
they are split on youk and pedey for MVP
Back to Milwaukee on Fox.
ish, something VERY interesting happening in this cubs game that lilly is pitching.
GDGD saying Sox/MFY PPD.
Bagels.
ESPN scoreboard sez postponed.
Day-night doubleheader tomorrow.
1:35 and 7:35
Pesky ceremony 1:15
This is bullshit, to end the season with a doubleheader with NO playoff implications AT ALL. Everything but the AL Central has been decided.
The Cubs/Astros make-up game for Monday is still on, as far as I can tell, also.
moose going for his 20th tomorrow vs the paw sox?
ARE YOU FUKING KIDDING ME? DOUBLE HEADER? FUCKING COMPLETE BULLSHIT. I HOPE IT PISSES ALL DAY AND NIGHT TOMORROW.
FUCK YOU MLB
lilly thru 6!
Guess I better tune back in.
no-no over.
I believe they always try to get in every game.
"Owe it to the fans," etc. etc.
Also prevents teams from deciding to dial it in at the least sign of inclement weather if they're already in, leaving opponents in the 1st round crying foul because they got extra rest.
I guess you have to figure - if you flew in to Boston for a game and they blew it off, you'd be pissed.
If, say, the Spiders game Thursday had been rained out, there would be no question - if it doesn't affect the playoffs, scratch it. But since the same 2 teams are back here tomorrow anyway they schedule it.
Having said all that - don't be surprised if the Fenway grounds crew is quicker than usual to bag tomorrow. :)
Off to the sister's house for a niece's birthday - enjoy!
*police in NY going to houses to take away belts and shoelaces away from mets fans right now*
Brewers end up winning, so if the Brewers and Mets both win their games tomorrow, or both lose, there's a one-game playoff.
Comes down to this.
And meanwhile, the Phillies are your NL East champions.
I'll be at the 1st game tommorrow to see the Pesky deal....I hope it doesn't piss tommorrow...
Can it start pissing after the ceremony?
That's why I liked where my seats were last Monday. Didn't matter if we got shat on, I would stay clean.
I guess you have to figure - if you flew in to Boston for a game and they blew it off, you'd be pissed.
Fuckin' right. Sat there for a couple hours. Oh well, turns out my seats were like the 2nd row that was covered. Plus I enjoy the city and doing other stuff in it, and spending time with family.
But on a related note - my mom and her husband cannot make the 7:35 start tomorrow, so we're trying to either:
a) Trade for similar-value seats for the 1:30 game (or cheaper seats + cash)
or
b) Sell their two seats for the 7:35 game. (Face value, naturally)
So if you guys wanna grab em (or know anyone that does) send me an email (tlopinski@gmail.com). They're good seats, just past first base (Loge box 104). They cost 90 apiece plus fees. And I promise I'll shower for you.
I think it's absurd to make it up, for the sake of the team's performance in October, I'd be happy with my refund. This trip has been good otherwise. But I was looking forward to seeing some Yankee-ass-kicking live and in person.
I'm so confused as to why everyone's so confused about the scheduling/makeups. They try to play every game, and use every possible day up until the final Sunday. There's one game to be made up, and one day left. So you have the doubleheader on the final day.
The only way one of the games wouldn't be played this weekend is if there had been two rainouts. That way you wouldn't have had a slot to fit in all three games. You know how much money the Red Sox would lose if they lost a game? 35,000 x 50 bucks average, plus food and all that--that's like 5 million dollars easy.
When ish predicted one game would be played this weekend, I was like, There's no way--even if both Friday and Saturday are rained out, there's still Sunday to play two. Of course, one of the games tomorrow might get rained out--only then does a game just disappear since it's the last possible day.

I had always thought that at the end of the season if there was a rainout and there were no playoff implications they would cancel it. That's why I said one game. But if you were to say that they had to play every game until Sunday, then I'd say yeah, they could get two in.
Although tomorrow's weather isn't looking that great either.
Cubs still have to fly to Houston after tomorrow to play a meaningless make-up game against the Astros.
Just had a thought...this worked out quite well for the Red Sox - got everyone in the park today, spending money on beer, drinks, food, souvenirs, ponchos etc. only to send everyone home and have 'em come back tomorrow and spend even more on overpriced stuff.
Good play, capitalists.
Weather is supposed to be shitty all day tomorrow, then clear up in the evening. So maybe they'll only play one and I'll get my money back.
Getting a bit more desperate to ditch these two extra tickets so will probably sell below face value.
