G71: Red Sox 6, Nationals 4

Red Sox - 000 312 000 - 6 7 0
Nationals - 010 002 100 - 4 8 0
David Ortiz crushed a three-run home run in the fourth, Jason Varitek hit a two-run dong in the sixth and the Sox bullpen, in relief of Lester (6-6-3-2-6, 103) held back the Nats.

Jacoby Ellsbury made two nice running catches to keep the score at 6-4. With a runner of third and two outs in the seventh, Ryan Zimmerman drove the ball to deep left center, but LBJ ran it down, banging into the wall. With one out on the bottom of the ninth, Willie Harris's drive to deep right-center was also hauled in.

Ortiz now has 1,002 career RBI and 296 career home runs. He also singled and scored in the sixth on Tek's dong. ... Dustin Pedroia had a double and an RBI-single. ... Jason Bay struck out three times and went 0-for-4.

The Yankees and Blue Jays both won, so Boston stays 5 GA in the East.

I once baked felafel, trying to save calories and avoid frying. NOT a good idea. No texture. Better to take the calories and the fried food after effects...

Shit, now I've gotta try and get some sleep. It's 5am... do you think I can do it?

laura k said...

This team is on such a tear. See you all tomorrow for Smoltz's Sox debut.

Rob said...

Well the Nats did score one more run than last night and gave up five less runs... I'd say that's progress.

laura k said...

Good luck Ofer! I'd take drugs if I were you, but that might make it worse tomorrow. Which is today.

Good night all.

Rob said...

Ofer do you need to be up for anything? I'd say at least try to have a sleep.

To the bat-showers, Robin!

Wait, did I say that out loud? ;>

Tune in again tomorrow!
Same..... yeah, yeah, yeah.
Later!

Yankees wanted Fruitbat to pitch the 9th after being brought in the 8th. Well the Yankees scored two more runs and got down to his spot in the order with 2 outs and the bases loaded after Douche Canoe walked. They still wanted him to pitch the 9th so they had him bat.

He took called strike one, then smoked a line drive to center but right to... whoever's in CF for Atlanta. I was actually hoping it'd get down, maybe go into the gap. Regardless of the uniform that would have been cool. Specially since the Yankees were going to win anyways.

Sut: "Nobody should be surprised at all by Mariano Rivera hitting the ball right there like he did." Then he went from there directly to talking about how Rivera gets extra running in before games shagging during BP.

Because, clearly, that's going to help him hit.

Nice to see dushbag MFY fans wearing "YANKEE UNIVERSE" shirts, sold by the same team that pokes fun of Red Sox Nation.

Clueless, idiot morons.

Fans and front office both.

love how Posada ran out from the dugout right away after the last out to pat Rivera on the back - almost like he was saying, "hey, don't forget about me!"

Goodnight Ish, Allan, and whoever's still looking.

Jason Bay will stop being Canadian next week.

Zenslinger said...

I was watching Fruitbat's at bat. It was said. I thought he had blooped a single, but the CF got it. Nothing to see baseball wise in my opinion, except the hilarious look on his face before and afterward. That part was fun.

Oi.

laura k said...

"Jason Bay will stop being Canadian next week."

No he won't. He'll be a dual citizen.

Benjamin said...

No he won't. He'll be a dual citizen.

So when he renounces his allegiance to Canada during his oath of U.S. citizenship, Canada will just say "eh, he's still Canadian"? Sensible enough.

laura k said...

Canada allows dual citizenship, as does the US with certain countries. It's that simple.

We'll take the oath of loyalty to the Queen (!) but we will still be US citizens, according to both Canada and the US.

Benjamin said...

It's more complicated than that. The U.S. will revoke your citizenship if you voluntarily take an oath that renounces other citizenships, and the U.S. oath requires you to renounce other citizenships. If the Canadian oath doesn't require you to renounce anything, then your U.S. citizenship is still intact, and Canada doesn't recognize or care that Bay says he renounces his Canadian citizenship (apparently Canada requires a more formal application to renounce its citizenship, so saying the words isn't enough), then his Canadian citizenship is intact.

Rob said...

So when is Jason Bay going to make a running catch, high-five a fan and complete a double play?

He's hitting dongs, he's becoming a US Citizen... Just like Manny! Surely the above-mentioned play has to come next, right??? :>)

Benjamin said...

That article says he won't be running onto the field waving a little U.S. flag, so there is that difference.
