Speaking of umps who like to make an impact, get this - Thursday night, in my BL team's last game of the season, my catcher, who is a senior and one of my rocks on the team, was slow getting to a ball that got past him. My 2nd baseman, who is a better catcher, ragged on him a little. My 18 yr-old catcher apparently said "suck my dick, Vince".
Not good, granted, but not directed at an opponent or an ump, and said low enough that no one heard it off of the field, not even the scorekeepers at the table behind home plate, or me in the 3rd base dugout.
Ump ejected him knowing I only had nine players and the game was called on a forfeit.

I am back to say 1) the Red Sox have really pissed me off. Saw the end of the game, went to dinner, had a beer, had ice cream and I am STILL pissed off. 2) I hate the Yankees more than ever. 3) I still think the ump in SoSock's LL team did the right thing, though it was harsh to punish the whole team. He should have let them play with 8 players. 4)I hate baseball right now.

One point to make, just in case anyone missed it, this kid is 18, not 12. He already graduated and starts at NC State in 2 weeks. Kids that age make me blush. Often. I say "hey-watch your mouth" and keep going. And it's after the rest of the league's season has ended. There aren't 6 yr-olds running around the complex betwen T-ball games. Hell, there are only a tiny handful of parents that come out at this age. Most of the time they don't even open the concession stand.
I really think, since NO ONE else heard it, that the ump could have simply said "watch your mouth Joey" and let it ride. If he had yelled it out he would have put the ump in a position of having to react. Not the case. If we had another player on the bench, maybe he decides to teach an 18-yr old a lesson and makes him watch his last game from the bench. Not the case. Ending the game, our last game, was just not the way to go IMHO.
