Schadenfreude 93 (A Continuing Series)

Mark Feinsand, Daily News:
Yankees fans are sure to be in panic mode on Thursday - judging by the e-mails I've already received and the comments on this blog, they're already there ...

Could A.J. Burnett go out to the mound and completely fall apart? Absolutely. ... It's time for him to earn that big contract the Yankees gave him. ... But regardless of how Burnett does, the Yankees offense - as weak as it looked against Lee - should have a field day with Pedro Martinez ...
George A. King III, Post:
Cliff Lee's evil arsenal and control good enough to consistently hit a gnat's backside combined with Chase Utley's biceps to put the Yankees in a World Series ditch last night in Game 1 [in front of] a Yankee Stadium crowd of 50,207 that had nothing to get excited about.
Kevin Kernan, Post:
This was not the Twins and Angels running silly around the bases. This was a composed team with a killer on the mound, a leader at shortstop and a big bat at second base. ...

Mystique and Aura aren't yet in this Yankees lineup, and a lot of fans bailed early.

"...a lot of fans bailed early."

What a shock.

Sic 'em, Pedro. Hoping Petey comes away with his second ring and rides off into the sunset, and the HoF in 2015.

LOVE IT!
Couldn't watch, but got frquent updates from the pilot's cabin. Spent the day in flight and am writing now from San Francisco!
Plan on meeting Zenslinger while I'm here. Or at least get a picture of me in HIS bar. Sound familiar Quinn?
If not for Pedro I would have no interest whatsoever in this series other than not wanting to see the MFY add a 235th title, or whatever they say it is now.
3 wins, no 2 for Pedro and an MVP would be the shit! 3 would mean it went 7 and we don't want that.

The Yankees just got exposed. After cruising through the playoffs because the Twins and Angels killed themselves with errors and baserunning mistakes, the Yankees are facing a team in the Phillies that has their shit together. The series mine as well be over. The Phillies have either figured out CC Sabathia or the lefty's arm has died once he goes over 240 innings pitched in a season + playoffs, like he did in 2007 and 2008. So the CC factor is gone. Then, even if the series goes seven games, that means facing Cliff Lee two more times. Good luck handling that task.

I hope Pedro throttles them tonight.

Happy National Oatmeal Day, everyone!

Er... Why the hell is there a National Oatmeal Day? And why does it have to be after the Red Sox season's over?

My favorite Cliff Lee fact:

Cliff Lee went to the Virgin Islands. Now they're just, "The Islands."

Speaking of Zen I am going to the 2010 Giants-RedSox games in San Francisco. Where is this bar? I must go.

SoSock, I returned your e-mail. Hope to see you.

CC pitched seven innings with only two solo HR's. He ain't washed up. But from the parts of the game I saw, Lee was just amazing.

Hope the Yanks bite it, but I would not count them out by any means. It'd be great to see PM take them down. I can't hold my breath on it, though. The calendar's flipped over a few times since Pedro was Pedro.

I can't watch the game anyway. Hope you all enjoy it.

It's called Ace's, Andy, a mostly New York teams bar but with enough Red Sox action to keep it interesting and mostly friendly. Nothing all that remarkable about it, but it's near where I live and I like it. It's at the corner of Hyde and Sutter (998 Sutter, I think).

It would be great to meet up.
