Matsuzaka Moved Up To Tuesday In Toronto

Thanks, Tito!

Yesterday's rainout will give each pitcher an extra day of rest, meaning that Daisuke Matsuzaka will pitch the opening game of the Blue Jays series on Tuesday night. It will be my first game of the season; we bought a package of Jays-Sox tickets and will see eight of the nine games this year.

(L saw the Dodgers -- and booed the F out of you-know-who -- Wednesday night during a visit to Los Angeles. She did not, however, run on the field and stab him with scissors as I had requested.)

The postponement also puts Dice in line to face the Yankees twice in five days: Sunday, April 22, in Boston, and Friday, April 27, in New York.

The Angels series:
Friday: John Lackey / Tim Wakefield
Saturday: Kelvim Escobar / Curt Schilling
Sunday: Ervin Santana / Josh Beckett
Monday: Jered Weaver / Julian Tavarez
JD Drew had his day off and will be back in the lineup tonight. Drew:
Every player wants to get a good start off to the season. In L.A. a couple of years ago, I started off 0-for-25. I hit balls hard; I had it all figured out where seven or eight of them could have been hits. They all translated into outs.
Players are not always accurate when it comes to remembering incidents in their careers, but Drew is right on the money this time. It was 2005:
Date AB R H
0405 at SFG 4 0 0
0406 at SFG 5 0 0
0407 at SFG 4 1 0
0408 at ARI 4 0 0
0409 at ARI 5 2 0
0410 at ARI 5 0 2
Drew was 0-for-3 (25 AB!) on April 10, 2005 before singling in both the 7th and 9th innings. Drew scored his three runs by walking twice and reaching on an error.

One day after Felix Hernandez dominated the Sox, Terry Francona and Jerry Remy told stories about Nolan Ryan.

Pawtucket's Devern Hansack struck out 10 batters in five innings on Wednesday, giving him 20 strikeouts in 10 innings this season. He's allowed only 1 run. ... Jacoby Ellsbury is hitting .429 (6-for-14) for Portland.

Newsstand Alert: A profile of Manny Ramirez may be published in next week's issue of The New Yorker.

Yes, despite the allure of the Sports Center clip, I wanted to come home, rather than go to prison.

I also roundly booed Luis Gonzalez. Grudges all around.

But I cheered Nomar! Along with all the Dodger fans. They are wild about him.

YAY!

I was going to say that no jury would convict you, but if he had a jury of his peers (brain-dead skippers and grinning jackasses), well, then there might be a problem. Also, your recent conversion might be used against you.

I, on the other hand, would skate.

LA at Toronto: June 19-20-21, midweek.

I really like JD, but it's too bad that yesterday's postponement means Wily Mo missed his promised start. I read, in yesterday's Globe, I think, a note that WMP had been working with DeMarlo Hale all spring on getting jumps on balls and felt really good in the outfield(contrary to my earlier fears on the subject). Hopefully, Tito will 'manage' his 400 ab/pa's.

Good news for you guys re: Dice-K at the Skydome. Hopefully this weekend's weather doesn't screw things up. 3 upcoming starts for the Diceman vs Sox' Division rivals. Bring it on!

You too, no? I thought you were going to all the games. Or is that just in May?

Please do not get us deported.

Yeah, just May--and maybe September. Guess I'm stuck with Buffy and Tabler this time 'round.
