(Julio Lugo had made an error on a routine grounder that would have ended the fifth inning, so it was not a bid for a perfect game.)With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Jason Varitek called for a slider, Schilling said no and threw a fastball, which Shannon Stewart lined to right field. Two pitches later, Mark Ellis fouled out to Alex Cora and the game was over.

That's gotta be some sort of a modern day record. 1h49m, we don't ever see that kind of game in Bahston - we're in for the long haul night in, night out.

As for no hitters / perfect games if or when six innings are completed then I start to think maybe a no hitter or perfect game. Until then, well its just a well pitched game.

FYI - Schilling has thrown two 1 hit games in his career. The first he gave up a home run to Bonilla in the fifth and the second he gave up a single to Raul Casanova in the second.

This must be the most nerve-wracking kind of perfect game ninth inning -- you can not only mess up your perfect game, you can also lose it pretty easily. Unless we can score here...

Perfect game is 27 up and 27 down.
No one reaching base at all for any reason -- hit, walk, error, HBP.
We lost 3 of 4, but all of the games were close -- 4-5, 0-2, 2-3, 1-0. Allowing only 10 runs over 4 games is encouraging. Scoring only 7 is frustrating.
But as long as the pitching remains solid, the bats will come around more times than not.

I saw that too. You probably also caught the wry smiles of Lowell, Yook and others as they congratulated Curt. That we're-happy-for-you-but-this-sucks kind of smile.
Did you catch the Ortiz comments. Papi said he didn't even realize that Curt had a no hitter going until one out in the ninth. "I looked up and I was seeing all those zeroes on the scoreboard then I came to the H and saw one there and it was like Whoa".
So does this count as a Papi first-inning walkoff? (I know your contest excludes road games.)
