The night belonged to Boston from the start -- Julio Lugo began the game with a home run to left field. Lugo also pulled off a deft tag of Alberto Callaspo in the third inning -- waiting and watching until Callaspo took his hand off second base when he stood up after a slide.

Josh Beckett (2.95, 152 ERA+) / Doug Davis (3.05, 143 ERA+)
Ortiz at first, Yook on bench.
Redsox.com:
Davis pitched well in his last start against the Mets in New York. The left-hander allowed just one run over 7.2 innings. ... In his last three starts, he has allowed just four earned runs over 22.2 innings.Arizona (36-25) is 1 GB the Giants in the NL West. ... First of 15 straight interleague games. Boo.
Closer to home, it's Pirates at Yankees and Blue Jays at Dodgers.
P.S. Kevin Youkilis has not updated his blog in nine days. And Curt Schilling hasn't posted about his one-hitter yet. Odd.
Part of me wonders if yook even wrote that other one, i know it says on the bottom that MLB posted it on his behalf, did he actually write it or did he just tell someone to do it for him...
ReplyDelete38pitches should be a good read whenever he gets around to it...probably today sometime when they're in AZ
So, we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff. Boo, indeed.
ReplyDeleteDodge the two aces? Gorzelanny is starting today.
ReplyDeleteYook doesn't write the blog. It's an "as told to". Nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, I hate the Diamondbacks. You know, the same reason you all once loved them. Despite my conversion, the uniform makes me sick.
I hate Eric Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteI hate Eric Byrnes.
ReplyDeleteAll right-thinking people do.
yah why'd they'd change their uniform? i mean, it was hideous before, but it had sort of a proud, unique hideousness. now it's just meh..
ReplyDeleteSo, we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff. Boo, indeed.
ReplyDeletehence, yankees suck.
we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff.
ReplyDeleteLike it matters.
yah why'd they'd change their uniform?
ReplyDeleteOh I don't mean the design of the uniform. I don't care what it looks like.

ReplyDeleteMFY rallying in 7th. Cairo double, CI single. 4-3, 1 out.
ReplyDelete4-4, still one out.
ReplyDelete4-4, now 3 out.
ReplyDeleterats - dbax announcers.
ReplyDeleteHELLO!!!
ReplyDeleteLUGO HR
Lugo!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like the AZ guys will be talking a lot about Manny's game preparation, but I think I'm going to just watch this one (at work).
ReplyDeleteThey made some cracks about him -- can't do a game without that, can you? -- but they had tremendous praise for his work ethic.
At least there was praise for his work ethic. That's more than he gets from the national broadcasters.
ReplyDelete___
MFY-Pirates still 4-4, top of the 9th coming up.
Remy just noted that no member of the D-Backs has ever faced Beckett. Interesting, given his time in the NL.
ReplyDeletedid byrnes break his foot? no? darn.
ReplyDeleteThey also said it was a playoff atmosphere there tonight -- nothing like the past three weeks.
ReplyDeletehave a seat, fuckface.
ReplyDeleteLove Manny jogging past Lugo toward the dugout before the ball even came down.
ReplyDeletealright! beckett is 1/9 of the way there!
ReplyDelete:>)
Love Manny jogging past Lugo toward the dugout before the ball even came down.
ReplyDeleteDid he say "HA"?
2 on, 1 out, still top of the 9th in NY. Mo just walked some Pirate.
ReplyDeletePirates on 1st and 2nd in the 9th against Rivera - 1 out.
ReplyDeleteyeah -- single, k, walk, 2nd out.
ReplyDeletebucs got nothing in the 9th.
ReplyDeleteSolo home run in the top of the 1st and Red Sox pitcher getting a 1-2-3 bottom half.
ReplyDeleteSounds familiar.
extra innings for MFY.
ReplyDeleteDrew showing up his little brother!
ReplyDeleteDrew tells the haters to shut the fuck up.
ReplyDeleteyikes - bases loaded, 1 out, captain intangibles at the place....crap. Yanks win.
ReplyDeleteYanks win.
ReplyDeleteOnly 3 games under .500 now.
Only 3 games under .500 now.
ReplyDeleteAnd they had to mount two comebacks against the Pirates, who aren't exactly rolling through the NL Central.
I think I love Julio Lugo!!!
ReplyDeleteHell of an alert play there.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
ReplyDeleteDumbass - that's why you call for time.
That was hysterical. Way to go Lugo.
ReplyDeleteOh I don't mean the design of the uniform. I don't care what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteit just makes you sick cause it's them?
These D-Back announcers are way too excited about that run. Would I rather have NESN, of course, but these guys are sort of funny. And very complimentary towards our guys.
ReplyDeleteLugo applied the late tag on the slide back in and you could see him look back/down at the runner and how he was positioned. Obviously, Lugo knew that when Callaspo stood up, his left hand would have to come off the bag.
ReplyDeleteMust have forgot to call time. So Lugo stood there and waited for a few seconds. Sure enough, Callaspo stood up, hand off bag, tagged on back.
it just makes you sick cause it's them?
ReplyDeletethey hurt her very badly in 2001 -- when she was aligned with the dark side.
still gets upset when the words "luis" and "gonzalez" are mentioned.
they hurt her very badly in 2001 -- when she was aligned with the dark side.
ReplyDeleteohhhhh.
wait.
oh. oh???
These D-Back announcers are way too excited about that run. Would I rather have NESN, of course, but these guys are sort of funny. And very complimentary towards our guys.
lol i wish i could here them.
These D-Back announcers are way too excited about that run.
ReplyDeleteIt's a playoff game to them, remember?
They should be highly pissed at the guy caught off second. Coulda been a 2nd run.
tdcg: her conversion is detailed here.
ReplyDeletetdcg: her conversion is detailed here.
ReplyDeletewow, i never would have guessed...
*reads on in mute fascination*
It's a playoff game to them, remember?
ReplyDeleteOh, right. Forgot about that. Maybe they should go take a dip in that pool and cool off a bit.
And have any of you ever called Manny ManRam? I know Ihaven't...
actually i have a confession to make...
ReplyDeletei was so touched (weren't we all) by 9/11, that i uh...i was rooting for the yankees that year. the only year. ever. only cause it was new york.
;/
And have any of you ever called Manny ManRam? I know Ihaven't...
ReplyDeleteNo.
That's his gay porn name!
we lived in manhattan at the time and i was thrilled when they lost.
ReplyDeleteWe used to call Mark Bellhorn BBellhorn whenever he walked (BB). Pronounced "Buh-Bellhorn".
ReplyDeleteFrom that, whenever Manny got a hit, we'd call him "MManny". ... We still go "Muh-Manny" after his hits like everyone now does "Yoooook".
ahh don totally trumps up fly balls lately. simma donna god ;//
ReplyDelete"Buh-Bellhorn".
ReplyDeletehaha. like the airline 'buh-bye' kinda thing?
kekekee 'ManRam'. yeah that's soo gay porn.
i heard pedroia call him that when they had him do the lineups at the beginning of a game once. i guess thats his little nickname?
His Baseball Reference page lists "ManRam", but I don't know a single Red Sox fan -- in person or online -- that calls him that.
ReplyDeleteHe's just Manny -- one of those immediately-known-by-his-first-name-only guys. Like Pedro.
Or MManny if you prefer.
AZ doing promos where for every DBack that gets on base in a specific inning, they'll donate $x somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThey've done two of them -- both times when the bottom of the order is due up (and it's more likely that fewer runners will reach).
Interesting.
JB PC: 10-11-14 11-10 = 56.
ReplyDeleteMe likey.
Ah - the baseball reference, er, reference explains it. The answer to their trivia question was Yaz, Papi and Manny. They were trying to claim that all three had nifty nicknames and pulled ManRam out of what seemed like nowhere. I've just been treating him like, oh I don't know, Madonna, pretty much since we got him. Only needs the one name! I do like MManny though.
ReplyDeleteyeah he's definitely just 'manny' not 'manram' haha.
ReplyDeleteps. lol i love laura's post. greatness.
she is a skywalker ;) a good one.
ManRam is out of the "A-Rod" school of nicknames. And we can't have that.
ReplyDeleteI got worried when Dice first arrived. Some early stories called him D-Mat and I heard that he had signed some autographs that way. Fortunately, it looks like Dice-K will carry the day.
... D-Ort. J-Lug. J-Bec. J-Pap. D-Ped. M-Low. ...
It's so wrong.
sorry to digress from our game..i just loved this quote from her post..
ReplyDeleteI don't feel as if I truly deserve to share in the joy when the Red Sox win the World Series this year.
when we were still two wins away!!
cause a true-blood red sox fan would have never said that ;))
that's a confident former-yankees-fan turned-red-sox-fan statement ;)
ugh, scary moment.
ReplyDeletewhen we were still two wins away!!
ReplyDeletecause a true-blood red sox fan would have never said that ;))
it was in the bag. come on!
after we won game 5 of the alcs, it was in. the. bag.
:>)
i like d-ped.
... D-Ort. J-Lug. J-Bec. J-Pap. D-Ped. M-Low. ...
ReplyDeleteIt's so wrong.
it's all j-lo's fault.
it was in the bag. come on!
ReplyDeletehhaa. i know. i guess it was. but you know what i mean....;)
JD!!!
ReplyDelete(he looks like roy hobbs rounding the bases. no, he does)
Ouch. Poor Manny. (or MManny, if you prefer.) Though a part of my brain was thinking, "hmm... is Manny hurt or is he just taking advantage of the chance for a nap?"
ReplyDeleteWOOOHOOO! Nice.
Are the MFY watching this one, too?
ReplyDeleteI like this kind of sibling rivalry. We should play against JD's brother all the time.
ReplyDeletelooks like tiz and jd doing some dirty dancing in the dugout!
ReplyDeleteAre the MFY watching this one, too?
ReplyDeleteSure hope so.
Sure hope so.
ReplyDeleteThey are half-watching, hiding the screen from their eyes with their blankey.
Curious -- are those 'Zona TV dudes still enjoying their run?
ReplyDeleteThey are half-watching, hiding the screen from their eyes with their blankey.
ReplyDeleteA-Rod: "Joe, tell me when the scary part is over!"
Torre: "Alex, get your thumb out of your mouth."
Robby Hammock in RF.
ReplyDeletePart of the All-Furniture team.
A-Rod: "Joe, tell me when the scary part is over!"
ReplyDeleteTorre: "In about four and a half months."
The All-Furniture team:
ReplyDeleteRobby Hammock
Dennis Lamp
....
Gee, Hudson seemed a little over-excited at scoring there.
ReplyDeleteHa ha - the 'zona guys are now enjoying their second run, but in a very, "gosh, this is just fun no matter who you're rooting for" sort of way.
ReplyDeleteThey're talking now about how not to get embarrased again tomorrow.
The All-Furniture team:
ReplyDeleteRobby Hammock
Dennis Lamp
Ben Sheets
Jose Mesa (aka Joe Table)
Rugger Ardizoia (?)
Gene Roof
Matt Stairs
Maybe it should be the All-House Team.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, leaving work, should be home for the Bot 9th.
All-House team: Huston Street.

JD Drew, kicking ass and taking names.
i hate this kia ad. wtf is it supposed to meannnn??
ReplyDeleteDon and Jerry getting silly about the pool/hot tub.
ReplyDelete"So it's a germ thing?"
__
I assume you mean the Kia Sportage commercial? Yes, truly stupid. At least there isn't a mind-numbing jingle though, like EVERY Chevy commercial.
yeah the kia sportage.
ReplyDeletei mean are they using some parallel between the guy getting matched up with a new (different) car and a guy entering into a threesome or something with his wife/gf??
why is he sitting there with that dumb look on his face?
i need to get tivo ;/
I'm somewhat disappointed that Beckett isn't going to come out for the 9th. Smart overall, no need for him to, but complete games are always fun.
ReplyDeleteWhy Josh, that 9-0 looks smashing on you!
ReplyDeleteOh, and tdcg, I'm so with you on that uniform thing. Hideous in such a blah way.
i think with beckett..you don't wanna make him throw more pitches if you don't have to. but then i guess he could just as well come out in the 8th as well. maybe its also good to keep the bullpen frosty.
ReplyDeleteOh, and tdcg, I'm so with you on that uniform thing. Hideous in such a blah way.
ReplyDeletetotally. it's like they changed the uniform presumably to make it better, yet its a complete downgrade. it looks like a highschool uniform.
Oh, it's totally sensible - why make him throw more than you need him to when you have an entire pen that just got a day off (thanks Schill), I just emotionally like seeing pitchers throw complete games. It's not an intellectual disapointment at all.
ReplyDeleteit looks like a highschool uniform.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking community college...
i do too. i mean, yeah. it's always dope and means alot :)
ReplyDeleteit looks like a highschool uniform.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking community college..
haha, maybe i was a little cruel there ;)
Got home. Game was over. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteWe'll beat up on the Big Eunuch tomorrow night.
HAHA - Boys & Girls Clubs of America are pulling the A-Rod ads from TV because (in my words) he's a jackass. In there words, he might be sending the "wrong message to kids."
ReplyDelete--
Big Eunich isn't until Sunday. We have Tavarez and Owings tomorrow.
Err, I posted at 12:53 AM (Saturday) so "tomorrow night" is indeed Sunday.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's it.
So, we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff. Boo, indeed.
ReplyDeleteDavis entered the game with a WHIP over 1.5. Not sure what it is now...
And what everyone else said about Gorzellany.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America are pulling the A-Rod ads from TV because (in my words) he's a jackass.
ReplyDeleteThat's fucked up. He gives enormous amounts of money to Boys & Girls Club, because they helped him so much when he was a kid. You'd think reaching as many kids as possible would be the more important to them.
Oh boo, I missed the All Furniture Team!
ReplyDeleteSox activated Timlin and designated Romero for assignment.
ReplyDelete__
So, with the perspective of the morning, the A-Rod/Boys & Girls Clubs thing doesn't seem so funny - just sad. It's not like A-Rod's current problems aren't going to blow over. He's certainly struggling off the field right now.
And it's not like I have any sympathy for him personally. It's just that the Boys and Girls Club is an amazing organization. It seems a silly decision that could end up hurting them.
ReplyDeleteTimlin, bah. I've been hoping he'd just stay on the DL permanently. I fear he's going to mess up our lovely little bullpen.
Agreed, on both counts.
ReplyDeleteI have Drew on my fantasy team.
ReplyDeleteHe was on the bench last night, of course.
