G60: Red Sox 10, Diamondbacks 3

JD Drew drove in a career-best seven runs (hitting three-run home runs in the third and sixth innings and doubling home a run in the eighth) and Josh Beckett was on top of his game (8-5-3-2-0-8, 92).

The night belonged to Boston from the start -- Julio Lugo began the game with a home run to left field. Lugo also pulled off a deft tag of Alberto Callaspo in the third inning -- waiting and watching until Callaspo took his hand off second base when he stood up after a slide.

***

Josh Beckett (2.95, 152 ERA+) / Doug Davis (3.05, 143 ERA+)

Ortiz at first, Yook on bench.

Redsox.com:
Davis pitched well in his last start against the Mets in New York. The left-hander allowed just one run over 7.2 innings. ... In his last three starts, he has allowed just four earned runs over 22.2 innings.
Arizona (36-25) is 1 GB the Giants in the NL West. ... First of 15 straight interleague games. Boo.

Closer to home, it's Pirates at Yankees and Blue Jays at Dodgers.

P.S. Kevin Youkilis has not updated his blog in nine days. And Curt Schilling hasn't posted about his one-hitter yet. Odd.

  1. Part of me wonders if yook even wrote that other one, i know it says on the bottom that MLB posted it on his behalf, did he actually write it or did he just tell someone to do it for him...

38pitches should be a good read whenever he gets around to it...probably today sometime when they're in AZ

  2. So, we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff. Boo, indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Dodge the two aces? Gorzelanny is starting today.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yook doesn't write the blog. It's an "as told to". Nothing wrong with that.

In other news, I hate the Diamondbacks. You know, the same reason you all once loved them. Despite my conversion, the uniform makes me sick.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I hate Eric Byrnes.

    All right-thinking people do.

    ReplyDelete
  6. yah why'd they'd change their uniform? i mean, it was hideous before, but it had sort of a proud, unique hideousness. now it's just meh..

    hence, yankees suck.

Oh I don't mean the design of the uniform. I don't care what it looks like.

  15. Sounds like the AZ guys will be talking a lot about Manny's game preparation, but I think I'm going to just watch this one (at work).

They made some cracks about him -- can't do a game without that, can you? -- but they had tremendous praise for his work ethic.

    ReplyDelete
  16. At least there was praise for his work ethic. That's more than he gets from the national broadcasters.
    ___

MFY-Pirates still 4-4, top of the 9th coming up.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Remy just noted that no member of the D-Backs has ever faced Beckett. Interesting, given his time in the NL.

    ReplyDelete
  18. did byrnes break his foot? no? darn.

    ReplyDelete
  19. They also said it was a playoff atmosphere there tonight -- nothing like the past three weeks.

  21. alright! beckett is 1/9 of the way there!

  31. Yanks win.

Only 3 games under .500 now.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Only 3 games under .500 now.

And they had to mount two comebacks against the Pirates, who aren't exactly rolling through the NL Central.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think I love Julio Lugo!!!

Hell of an alert play there.

    ReplyDelete
  34. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Dumbass - that's why you call for time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. That was hysterical. Way to go Lugo.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh I don't mean the design of the uniform. I don't care what it looks like.

it just makes you sick cause it's them?

    ReplyDelete
  37. These D-Back announcers are way too excited about that run. Would I rather have NESN, of course, but these guys are sort of funny. And very complimentary towards our guys.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lugo applied the late tag on the slide back in and you could see him look back/down at the runner and how he was positioned. Obviously, Lugo knew that when Callaspo stood up, his left hand would have to come off the bag.

Must have forgot to call time. So Lugo stood there and waited for a few seconds. Sure enough, Callaspo stood up, hand off bag, tagged on back.

    ReplyDelete
  39. it just makes you sick cause it's them?

they hurt her very badly in 2001 -- when she was aligned with the dark side.

still gets upset when the words "luis" and "gonzalez" are mentioned.

They should be highly pissed at the guy caught off second. Coulda been a 2nd run.

  44. It's a playoff game to them, remember?

Oh, right. Forgot about that. Maybe they should go take a dip in that pool and cool off a bit.

And have any of you ever called Manny ManRam? I know Ihaven't...

    ReplyDelete
  45. actually i have a confession to make...
i was so touched (weren't we all) by 9/11, that i uh...i was rooting for the yankees that year. the only year. ever. only cause it was new york.

    ;/

    ReplyDelete
  46. And have any of you ever called Manny ManRam? I know Ihaven't...

    No.

    That's his gay porn name!

    ReplyDelete
  47. we lived in manhattan at the time and i was thrilled when they lost.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We used to call Mark Bellhorn BBellhorn whenever he walked (BB). Pronounced "Buh-Bellhorn".

From that, whenever Manny got a hit, we'd call him "MManny". ... We still go "Muh-Manny" after his hits like everyone now does "Yoooook".

    ReplyDelete
  49. ahh don totally trumps up fly balls lately. simma donna god ;//

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Buh-Bellhorn".

haha. like the airline 'buh-bye' kinda thing?

kekekee 'ManRam'. yeah that's soo gay porn.
i heard pedroia call him that when they had him do the lineups at the beginning of a game once. i guess thats his little nickname?

    ReplyDelete
  51. His Baseball Reference page lists "ManRam", but I don't know a single Red Sox fan -- in person or online -- that calls him that.

He's just Manny -- one of those immediately-known-by-his-first-name-only guys. Like Pedro.

    Or MManny if you prefer.

    ReplyDelete
  52. AZ doing promos where for every DBack that gets on base in a specific inning, they'll donate $x somewhere.

They've done two of them -- both times when the bottom of the order is due up (and it's more likely that fewer runners will reach).

    Interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  53. JB PC: 10-11-14 11-10 = 56.

    Me likey.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ah - the baseball reference, er, reference explains it. The answer to their trivia question was Yaz, Papi and Manny. They were trying to claim that all three had nifty nicknames and pulled ManRam out of what seemed like nowhere. I've just been treating him like, oh I don't know, Madonna, pretty much since we got him. Only needs the one name! I do like MManny though.

    ReplyDelete
  55. yeah he's definitely just 'manny' not 'manram' haha.

ps. lol i love laura's post. greatness.

she is a skywalker ;) a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ManRam is out of the "A-Rod" school of nicknames. And we can't have that.

I got worried when Dice first arrived. Some early stories called him D-Mat and I heard that he had signed some autographs that way. Fortunately, it looks like Dice-K will carry the day.

    ... D-Ort. J-Lug. J-Bec. J-Pap. D-Ped. M-Low. ...

    It's so wrong.

  57. sorry to digress from our game..i just loved this quote from her post..

I don't feel as if I truly deserve to share in the joy when the Red Sox win the World Series this year.

when we were still two wins away!!
cause a true-blood red sox fan would have never said that ;))
    that's a confident former-yankees-fan turned-red-sox-fan statement ;)

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ouch. Poor Manny. (or MManny, if you prefer.) Though a part of my brain was thinking, "hmm... is Manny hurt or is he just taking advantage of the chance for a nap?"

    WOOOHOOO! Nice.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Are the MFY watching this one, too?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I like this kind of sibling rivalry. We should play against JD's brother all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  65. looks like tiz and jd doing some dirty dancing in the dugout!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Are the MFY watching this one, too?

    Sure hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sure hope so.

They are half-watching, hiding the screen from their eyes with their blankey.

  68. Curious -- are those 'Zona TV dudes still enjoying their run?

    ReplyDelete
  69. They are half-watching, hiding the screen from their eyes with their blankey.

    ....

    ReplyDelete
  73. Gee, Hudson seemed a little over-excited at scoring there.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ha ha - the 'zona guys are now enjoying their second run, but in a very, "gosh, this is just fun no matter who you're rooting for" sort of way.

They're talking now about how not to get embarrased again tomorrow.

  75. The All-Furniture team:

  78. i hate this kia ad. wtf is it supposed to meannnn??

    ReplyDelete
  79. Don and Jerry getting silly about the pool/hot tub.

    "So it's a germ thing?"

    __

I assume you mean the Kia Sportage commercial? Yes, truly stupid. At least there isn't a mind-numbing jingle though, like EVERY Chevy commercial.

    ReplyDelete
  80. yeah the kia sportage.
i mean are they using some parallel between the guy getting matched up with a new (different) car and a guy entering into a threesome or something with his wife/gf??
why is he sitting there with that dumb look on his face?

i need to get tivo ;/

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'm somewhat disappointed that Beckett isn't going to come out for the 9th. Smart overall, no need for him to, but complete games are always fun.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why Josh, that 9-0 looks smashing on you!

Oh, and tdcg, I'm so with you on that uniform thing. Hideous in such a blah way.

    ReplyDelete
  83. i think with beckett..you don't wanna make him throw more pitches if you don't have to. but then i guess he could just as well come out in the 8th as well. maybe its also good to keep the bullpen frosty.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Oh, and tdcg, I'm so with you on that uniform thing. Hideous in such a blah way.

totally. it's like they changed the uniform presumably to make it better, yet its a complete downgrade. it looks like a highschool uniform.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Oh, it's totally sensible - why make him throw more than you need him to when you have an entire pen that just got a day off (thanks Schill), I just emotionally like seeing pitchers throw complete games. It's not an intellectual disapointment at all.

    ReplyDelete
  86. it looks like a highschool uniform.

    I was thinking community college...

    ReplyDelete
  87. i do too. i mean, yeah. it's always dope and means alot :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. it looks like a highschool uniform.

haha, maybe i was a little cruel there ;)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Got home. Game was over. Oh well.

We'll beat up on the Big Eunuch tomorrow night.

    ReplyDelete
  90. HAHA - Boys & Girls Clubs of America are pulling the A-Rod ads from TV because (in my words) he's a jackass. In there words, he might be sending the "wrong message to kids."

    --

Big Eunich isn't until Sunday. We have Tavarez and Owings tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Err, I posted at 12:53 AM (Saturday) so "tomorrow night" is indeed Sunday.

    Yeah, that's it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. So, we get the Diamonbacks and Davis, who is a good pitcher while the MFY get the Pirates and dodge the two aces on their staff. Boo, indeed.

Davis entered the game with a WHIP over 1.5. Not sure what it is now...

And what everyone else said about Gorzellany.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Boys & Girls Clubs of America are pulling the A-Rod ads from TV because (in my words) he's a jackass.

That's fucked up. He gives enormous amounts of money to Boys & Girls Club, because they helped him so much when he was a kid. You'd think reaching as many kids as possible would be the more important to them.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Oh boo, I missed the All Furniture Team!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Sox activated Timlin and designated Romero for assignment.
    __

So, with the perspective of the morning, the A-Rod/Boys & Girls Clubs thing doesn't seem so funny - just sad. It's not like A-Rod's current problems aren't going to blow over. He's certainly struggling off the field right now.

    ReplyDelete
  96. And it's not like I have any sympathy for him personally. It's just that the Boys and Girls Club is an amazing organization. It seems a silly decision that could end up hurting them.

Timlin, bah. I've been hoping he'd just stay on the DL permanently. I fear he's going to mess up our lovely little bullpen.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I have Drew on my fantasy team.

He was on the bench last night, of course.
