Q. You mentioned you were able to pass the ball on to the bullpen in a good way today, and you had said earlier in the series that you could not let it end like this. How content were you today with your payback, so to speak?
DAISUKE MATSUZAKA: I think the first response to that is the team winning, and in that sense I'm very happy.
But there is more to play, and I'm not 100 percent satisfied with my own pitching today. I want to address some of those things in my next outing, not to make a big deal out of it, but the world's biggest stage is still waiting for us, and I'd like to see what I can do.
I had to get in on this thread after watching the Game at the Bar.
It's funny how Game 2 was the only other game that was really a nail-biter...and both the final scores of Game 2 and 7 were so lopsided.
The Bar is ostensibly a Yankees bar but was all Boston tonight (after the NFL I've-been-drinking-since-10AM folks finally wheeled themselves out.) We had a great time. Lots of screaming and nerves.
What I found most interesting about tonight is that despite not having been totally shelled in his previous games, Matsuzaka was at this point in the fifth at which his game was either going to be considered a success or a failure. I mean, 4 runs in 4 and 2/3 is not good, but all the focus was about how he had been "ineffective". But tonight, given the atmosphere, 2 runs in five innings was a brilliant outing. Obviously, his pitching was significantly better, but it all came down to getting Cabrera in the 5th...and not getting to Hafner. Even though he didn't burn us too bad in the series, Hafner was a lurking danger the whole time.
I love how the Okajima -> Papelbon basic plan still held up even though it required two (ballsy) innings from both.
I love how there was suspense during this game.
Respectfully, fuck all this "Eat shit, Cleveland" stuff. They played well. Worthy opponents. Well done.
I was finally fully on the line emotionally for this one. It felt great.

JOSH BECKETT: "Chillier," is that a metaphor? I don't know, I go out there every time, and the first couple innings you try and figure out what you've got and what's not going for you and what's not working so well. Don Sutton used to tell me every time, you go out there, you're going to be a different guy. So throughout the course of a year you can be between 30 and 35 people.
Between the first couple innings you're trying to figure out which guy you are. It's kind of like my first innings are always -- if you're going to get to me, generally the first inning is the inning that I'm trying to figure out who I am that day. You know, I've just been able to execute pitches, whether it be Chien-Ming Wang or C.C. Sabathia, nobody wants it more than me. When I'm out there, I feel like the guys are all behind me, and I just feel like we're better than everybody else.

For all my new found partners in threads, I am just going to let you know that I am in utter turmoil at work, barely able to keep my eyes open.
I couldn't sleep for over an hour after the game, my mind racing over a number of things - I explain it in my mulit-sport blog - but it was a wonderful experience to share the evening with you all, and worth the hell I'm going through now.
I will go home tonight, have dinner, transfer the game onto my DVD, and then sleep.
Until Wednesday. Little did I know that when I turned down a ticket to Fenway in June, because I couldn't get two, that I was missing a preview of the World Series.
Oh. And this made me laugh from NYY Fans...
