Red Sox - 020 120 001 - 6 10 0Halladay (5-8-5-2-7, 103) had a tough evening, throwing a lot of pitches -- a total of 72 in the second, third and fourth innings - and not retiring the Red Sox in order in any frame.
Blue Jays - 000 100 000 - 1 6 1
David Ortiz and Jason Bay both hit home runs, Jacoby Ellsbury tripled, and Alex Gonzalez singled twice in two trips. Victor Martinez added a solo dong in the ninth off Brandon League.
The Jays did very little against Buchholz (6-6-1-1-4, 94). A walk and a couple of singles resulted in a run in the fourth, and they left the bases loaded in the sixth. A trio of relievers -- Ramon Ramirez, Hideki Okajima and Takashi Saito -- retired nine of the ten batters they faced, allowing only a two-out walk in the seventh.Clay Buchholz (4.45, 106 ERA+) / Roy Halladay (2.65, 165 ERA+)
Both pitchers worked in the Red Sox's last trip to Toronto. On July 19, Halladay pitched a complete-game 3-1 win (9-6-1-0-7, 105).
Two days earlier, on July 17, Buchholz (5.2-4-1-3-3, 103) was credited with a win in a 4-1 Boston victory.

I will probably not be here until the second half of the game. Weekly group bike ride today, then to a local restaurant to hang out and eat some appetizers. Stop at Subway on the way home then I'll thread!
Pretty funny how I'll be on a bike ride when Roy Halladay pitches against the Red Sox tonight... Last time he pitched against us, I was on a bike ride too. It was, what I call The Bike Ride, because it involved 65 miles (104km) and three states.
And, of course, that happened exactly one month ago today!
I wish I could ride a bike, but I'm too old. Sniff. So I shuffle around the neighbourhood with my walker.

John Farrell is back.
For once in my short blog life, I am keeping quiet and not feeding the troll. But it's probably just that I am too elderly to be able to think, read and type.
Oops. Guess I did not keep that resolution.
Troll? what troll, did I miss something?
I don't like Kotchman startting instead of Lowell. I know it's for defense but still Lowell has been one of the Sox most consistently good hitters of late. and with so many automatic outs in the lineup we need all the offense we can get.
I also really hope the Sox sign Vincente Padilla in time for the Yankee series. He can still pitch pretty well I think and if he throws at Teixera is anyone here gonna be too sorry? :) MFY bastards have it coming.
SoSHer zenter:
"I can't believe the Red Sox would use a pinch runner as a SP. I guess they're punting the season."
I can't ride a bike either, Redsock, and I'm 24. We can just cheer on Ish from the side lines.
No FY? I've been a new dad, but really, if mom is well newborns don't need dad (sad but true).
Let's make Jays fans sue their Doc for malpractice.
Fusionmouse, luckily many dads don't agree with you! Also, mom was sick for a while, the baby almost arrived prematurely, so she might want dad around a bit more (and he might want to be around a bit more).
I'm not great on bikes, either. I have been wanting a recumbent trike or an "adult trike," but they're so expensive. It would be fun, tho.
as long as fy is back on friday.
though as per my wpa link of a day ago, we might want him to stay away for awhile. (unless this was the reason for his tremendous sucking)
actually, i *can* ride a bike, but i have to be careful of my brittle, "middle-aged" bones. :>)
All true L. I wouldn't have left either, but I've also never been as important to so many other people as FY is to RSN.
the halladay love might be a bit much, but we are going with buffyvision over o'b's gloom 'n' doom.
Maybe it should be stipulated (contractually) that baseball players can't have unprotected sex during the months that could lead to an in season birth ;-)
Liking the Cactus-free lineup
buffy: "else-bury"
Anyone want to place bets on when Dylan will utter his first words and whether they'll be "FUCK YEAH!"
FM, I understand. :)
Kevin, nice use of our new nickname!
I'm never here for games on Weds nights, so this is a real treat. But two things are conspiring against my enjoying this evening.
Cody is having an anxiety attack, and we are waiting for her meds to work.
And our landlord is coming over to survey the damage to the basement.
54?!?
I think Buffy says else-perry. Totally off.
Dylan's lucky, he'll be as tall as his dad by age 7.
2-0 to yook was NOT a strike
fuckin bullshit call -- will clay get that outside strike?
oh, was that not ellsbury on first? I was clearly off that inning.
vmart walked
Well, no results, but right now Halladay has thrown more balls than strikes
That's gotta be a good sign
"fuckin bullshit call -- will clay get that outside strike"
The strike zone seems shifted about two inches toward the right from the umpire's view. From both sides of the plate. As long as he's consistent, I'm fine with it.
scutaro flied out to lbj on a 1-0 pitch
buffy: "scutaro lines the first pitch to center"
6 pitch OTT
me likey - very much
Six-pitch first inning, only one ball
Nice
OOO, I like it. I'm curious about how many curveball and sliders HH throws this game. Feel free to throw in your observations. Joe C. doesn't say every pitch type.
Nice inning.
FLO!!!
QUADRANGULAR!!!!!!!!
fuck you doc hahahahah
LARGE PATERNAL DONG
tiz: "bench this"
Flow, Flo!
Yay! I get here just in time to see Papi's dong!
Argh! "Friends" calling me to tell me stories, and I miss the HR.
Just cuz I missed it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
1-0
Infield chopper!
Patrick, the moral of that story is never answer your phone during games. That's what voice mail is for.
I'm watching the ESPN feed. All they're talking about is Brett Favre. My brother lives in Wisconsin.
Boy, does he hate Brett Favre.
there was a real stereotypical "basement dweller" behind us last night, with an elderly woman who i assume was his mother. from her comments, she could not see very well.
every time green came up, he said "here comes mr. homely" or "here comes mr. ugly".
both of them were OBSESSED with green's looks. she called him "stunning".
Is Cody doing any better? Will the landlord's visit drive her crazy again?
I have to admit that looking at Green, I said, "He sure is cute."
Could they see him from your seats?
If I don't answer the phone, someone else will, and they'd give it to me.
I'd love to not answer it.
Ish, when I was young and full of beans I used to be a huge cyclist. Rode 200 miles a week.
Then, I discovered beer.
Then, I discovered mountain climbing.
I keep thinking I'm going to get back into cycling, but I don't know if you can do that and mountain-climbing both. Not enough time.
Great to hear Remy will be back Friday. I will likely be on the road and miss his appearance again.
After the infield hit, Kotch must've thought "I'm a fast MF"
The stolen base won't do anything to hamper that thought.
And HE SCORES!!!!
Nick Green is far from homely.
Gonzalez produces, eh.
Sea bass!
Yayyy, every run you can get off this guy, take it.
Patrick, Harvey can't stand to let a phone call go without answering. I hate the phone and only answer when I want or need to talk to the person calling. Caller ID is the best thing that happened to my phone life.
So who is this guy Halladay everybody things is so great? ;)
Mountain climbing seems like more work than cycling.
RS, I'm curious where you get the term "basement dweller". You mean someone who lives in their parents' basement?
I have heard it to mean a person of low intellectual and spiritual development.
It's a fairly cliched insult applied to Internet troglodytes.
Great to hear Remy will be back Friday. I will likely be on the road and miss his appearance again.
That's such good news.
I think some people misunderstood me a few days about Remy...
Mountain climbing seems like more work than cycling.
Hmmm...
Kind of a push, I think.
2 IP, 46 pitches
Clay's gotta be happy that we've actually scored some runs for him for once
It's a fairly cliched insult applied to Internet troglodytes.
Like right-wing trolls who go on DailyKOS or HuffPost.... :)
just the usual stereotype of a nerdy, oddly-shaped guy with the radio feed in his ear saying dumb things for 3 hours....
they clearly know the sox, and also green's gorgeous visage was on the huge screen.
they also were insulting heidi at the start of the game. "she broke up varitek's marriage." ... all i could think of, man, has that rumour/story jumped the shark.
we tried to clue them in to green/heidi gossip.
keep in mind that my office is in the basement.
Paplebon was quoted in the Herald as saying he over-hydrated yesterday and felt sluggish.
It was Green's picture on the scoreboard the basement dwellers were reacting to.
Caller ID is great. I can't imagine trying to work at home without it.
Basement dweller just means loser, in general. Lives in parent's basement, i.e. can't manage on their own.
I wonder what ppl misunderstood re Remy.
What is the Green/Heidi/Tek gossip? You are cluing in basement dwellers, but leaving me, currently a motel dweller, in the dark.
Amy, the meds kicked in, Cody is now ok. The landlord's visit will not bother her - she loves people, always happy to have visitors. Thanks for your concern.
Truth be told, if I were Heidi, I would take Green over Tek. I love the Captain, but as a ballplayer. Not his looks.
they also were insulting heidi at the start of the game. "she broke up varitek's marriage."
I felt the need to say, "Perhaps he did that." Of course they paid no attention, but I had to say something.
Glad Cody is calm. Poor puppy.
I wonder what ppl misunderstood re Remy.
Oh, about Remy's depression, I said something to the effect that I wonder if he is more depressed over his lung disease or his son getting into legal trouble. I think people thought I was being snarky, but I was being sincere.
My dad died of lung cancer when I was 16 and my mom has struggled with clinical depression probably her entire life, so it's not something I would joke about.
Let's keep this fuck train rolling.
herald gossip awhile back had green and heidi canoodling in a restaurant.
Pepe, I assume you meant something you would NOT joke about.
Typos can sure make things confusing.
So Tek and Heidi are done or never were?
F-train has indeed left the station. Clay's thrown 19-12.
On Remy, my read was that the depression occurred before his son got into trouble and was connected to his illness.
i don't get emailed updates, but i'd guess "done" over "never were".
Depression often has connections to physical health. Chemicals.
I imagine depression isn't uncommon among cancer patients, especially among invincible baseball players.
Amy, Pepe said
"so it's not something I would joke about."
Works. :)
Ooo, Rick Sutcliffe just called J.D. Drew lazy...
And then called his F7 a "good piece of hitting". Thanks, Rick Roberts.
Is Sut drunk on the air YET AGAIN?
There must be a blog somewhere about ballplayers' love lives. Not that I would read it.
It's so nice to have a catcher who isn't an automatic out
I thought Tek & Amy were done a long time ago, but I'm only going by what gamethreaders see. I have no other source for Red Sox gossip.
Depression is common from all kinds of illnesses, definitely. Makes sense, eh?
Pepe, thanks for sharing, I'm sure your experiences make you more sensitive to these things.
The message board at On The DL. That's the place.
Rogers Centre is turning into a group home for recovering aces this week.
Yup, I misread it. Sorry, Pepe.
YOUUUUK
that was the site nix and i were talking about last year and not sharing with you!
Hit parade!!!
There must be a blog somewhere about ballplayers' love lives. Not that I would read it.
Deadspin has a lot of that stuff.
Hey, a rally. Halladay is looking vulnerable.
A blog? There are likely dozens.
Halladay's getting ripped today.
Now, I do not want to look stupid twice in a row, but did you mean Tek and Heidi, not Tek and Amy, Laura? :)
Ha ha, Tek and Amy!! They will never be done! I meant Tek and HEIDI. :-D
TEK & AMY!!!
wait a minnit
Is Sut drunk on the air YET AGAIN?
I'm angry over his J.D. Drew crack.
Rogers Centre is turning into a group home for recovering aces this week.
ha ha
LOL!
I will be over Tek when he retires from being an active player (I expect he will move on to some position in the Red Sox organization). Then he will just join my pantheon of former favorite catchers with Fisk and Jerry Grote of the Mets. (There's a long hole in between Fisk and Tek. That long dry spell of the 80s/early 90s.)
C'mon, Dounger!
OB just talked about Papi taking more walks there...
Did you know Dustin Pedroia and Jorge Posada have the same birthday? A couple of days ago. I got a friend of mine, whose favourite player is Posada, a cupcake with Dumbo on it. She didn't think it was funny.
How'd you find a Dumbo cupcake??
A couple of days ago. I got a friend of mine, whose favourite player is Posada, a cupcake with Dumbo on it. She didn't think it was funny.
In fairness, you really should've tried to fit the ears onto it too.
No runs, but he's up to 68 pitches already
How'd you find a Dumbo cupcake??
I had it made at a bakery.
16-30-22 = 68 for doczaka
Wow, that's going a long way to make a point.
Sit
I'm amazed at HH's low K/9 this year in the bigs. I figured him to be close to 9 per 9. High expectations, clearly.
HH looking good. So far.
Sit
Buchholz!
At least the Sox scored at least 1 run for him tonight. He's had tough luck so far.
how big do the rosters become in September?
Toronto looks beautiful tonight.
Too bad their hockey team sucks.
"He's had tough luck so far."
He has only allowed more than three runs in a start once so far this year
from 25 up to as many as 40.
Remy's on the phone now on NESN. Haha. Finally some actual analysis on this particular broadcast.
Jerry sounds good on the phone. More upbeat and willing to be watching NESN games now.
Rich: Torre will really earn his pay with the roster the Dodgers have now.
Joe: They've got Manny...
Remy: Halladay doesn't look quite as sharp as he normally does...
Toronto looks beautiful?? I really like Toronto, but beautiful it ain't.
seabass 2 for 2!!!
Wow, Sea Bass with two hits already tonight
THREE BAGS!!!
Landslide Lyndon!
I'm guessing Remy got to the ballpark and remembered just why he spent so much time doing this job and wanted to come back. He must've felt almost totally back at home, and back to something familiar.
Great news.
All right!
Triple RBI.
Hallady is very touchable tonight.
This is a good time for Jailsbury to steal home.
Well, this makes it much more difficult for him to get his 54th steal
But as we know, not impossible
I wonder if the Jays have Malpractice insurance...
Hallady is very touchable tonight.
I've never described anyone as very touchable, but I might start.
Bike ride was okay tonight. I have a mountain bike so I'm not really screaming along... I have smooth-ish tires which makes the riding a bit easier.
However, tonight, there was some BRAND new pavement that wasn't totally set yet that we rode on and for the rest of the ride we were slowed up by our tires sticking to the road and picking up anything and everything!
A gooey bike ride...sounds like biking through mud or something.
88 pitches through 4
3 runs
Very nice
Hallady is very touchable tonight.
I've never described anyone as very touchable, but I might start.
I meant in the Brian DePalma way!
I used to hang out with Brian DePalma. A few lifetimes ago.
11.5 miles on the road and about 1 mile on the dirt. Haha.
I ride that thing a LOT more on the road.
In northern Maine this one evening last summer I went for a ride through some trails and it started to rain. I didn't know where I was going, and it was getting dark. And the kicker was my tires. They have teeth on the sides but are smooth on top. There was this one hill I had to go up where I was literally moving sideways, drifting up the hill. It was hilarious.
Of course, it was pitch-dark when we got back into town and I had no lights... And it was pouring.
BTW, I love biking. I am slow as molasses (even without sticky tar), but it is my favorite form of exercise. We bike every day we can on the Cape. I would love to do one of those bike travel tours some time.
I absolutely LOVE backing it down a bit and riding leisurely. You just sort of float along. Then you get to a hill and it's like okay, pedal a little, then coast. Beautiful summer evenings... I love it.
It looks like everything HH is throwing has good movement to it tonight.
I noticed he threw a 95 mph fastball that had so much break away from the lefty hitter that it looked like a Dice-K changeup... but at 95!
I especially love biking at twilight in the summer when the day has cooled off. Back roads with little traffic and lots of field and farms. Good memories.
Orioles have the bases loaded with 0 outs against TFR. down a run.
Alright Clay, don't worry, Wells sucks
Let's get a DP here
C'mon Buchholz, you have runs to work with tonight..
My dad had a pretty good story about how a coworker of his who he's worked with for YEARS... Her son lives down in Washington DC. When the Sox were in town he was in a bar and Pedroia and a couple others walked in and sat down. (My dad doesn't remember who the others were)... Nobody in there knew who they were except for this guy, and instead of being all OMG he walked up to them and said, "Hey, let me buy you guys a beer." And ended up hanging out with then and shooting the shit for a little while.
Cool story.
DP, please.
Orioles score NO ONE! That seems very Red Sockian of them.
Dammit!
That is a cool story, Ish.
Damn. Come on, HH. Don't fall apart in the 4th.
Dammit Clay...
Ahhh! Minimize this shit.
The guy's mother, my dad's coworker, asked him if he got their autographs and he said, "Seriously, Mom?"
Just one more out.
Nasty change-up!
Sit
That's more like it Clay, now just get one more
All right, one more out, Clay. Do it.
Come on, HH, get him out.
Sutcliffe just said, "a-goin'"
He thinks he's channeling Dylan.
Now get back that run.
Good job, Clay.
Alright, one run, not bad
missed the bot 4th. landlord here checking out the basement.
When I watched the Cardinals/Dodgers game on Monday night I noticed the stat line under the player name graphic had batting average, home runs, RBI... and now OPS. A nice touch was a little highlighted note at the bottom of the graphic that showed what the NL's average OPS was. I think it was .712 that night.
HAHA!
Redsock with the WW.
We gots a rhubarb!
go home, cito. ya loser.
Heh, he was out. But er... NOT! Haha
You missed a less effective inning from HH, but fortunately just one run.
Sutcliffe sez it was a bad call.
I'll take that
Youk safe?!?! He actually stole a base!
Hahah Youk having a BIG adventure out there on the bases!!!
Oh... that might've been a bad call...
Safe again! Youk the magic man!
Sweat on wheels!
That was hilarious. Youk overslid the base then had to scramble back. Just BARELY got back.
nope, sorry, too quick. He's safe.
A much more pedestrian and, rather boring 90 feet for Youk, from second to third.
The reason Youk doesn't steal many bases is his sweat. It slows him down.
DOOOOOOUUUUUUNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!
DONG!!!!!
THUNDER!!!
DOUNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fuck you doc.
take your medicine!!!!!!!
Thundering in Toronto! Tell the landlord he'd better protect against more flooding!
Bayyyyyyy!!!!!
Hallady ... touchable!
Beckett = touchable.
Halladay = touchable.
Yet, the Red Sox might end up winning BOTH of those games.
HallaDAY.
I've been screwing up all game.
HERE COMES MR. HOMELY!
And I love me some Canadian moose sausage!
Well, they got the run back and then some, more than I had asked for.
Time for conductor Clay to keep this Fuck train rolling.
Landlord interrupting our fun here...
