Red Sox - 013 200 000 - 6 12 0Buchholz (6-6-1-1-8, 108) was very sharp after a rough beginning. With one out in the first, he allowed three consecutive singles to load the bases, then got John Jaso to GIDP. With runners on second and third with one out in the second, HH struck out Reid Brignac and Jason Bartlett.
Rays - 000 100 000 - 1 6 0
The only blemishes after that were Carlos Pena's solo home run and Bartlett's fifth inning double. Hideki Okajima (7-8) and Daniel Bard (9) retired all nine batters they faced.
David Ortiz kicked off the second with a home run down the right field line. The Sox got three singles and three walks and batted around against Davis in the third and took a 4-0 lead. Kevin Youkilis greeted reliever Lance Cormier with a two-run dong in the fourth.
Dustin Pedroia snapped out of his slump with three hits; Adrian Beltre also had three hits. Victor Martinez took a foul ball off his big left toe in the second inning and left the game for a pinch-runner in the third. X-rays were negative.Clay Buchholz / Wade Davis

The Rays swept four games from the Red Sox at Fenway Park in mid-April, outscoring Boston 24-9. Tampa has gone 22-9 since then, with the Red Sox close behind at 20-12.
In this supposed make-or-break stretch against the Yankees, Twins, and Rays -- the three teams with the top winning percentages in the AL -- the Sox are 5-2. Boston has also won 13 of its last 20 games.
The Yankees are 5-10 since May 9 and have dropped from 0.5 GB to 6 GB in the standings. Knocking Tampa off the top of the hill may be a pipe dream, but 2.5 GB in the WC with 117 games to go? I think that's surmountable.
Peter Abraham has some recent hitting streaks:

Hey if you want to watch games that are not on Nesn or MLB. You can go P2P and use a program like Stream Torrent to watch.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.myp2pforum.eu/threads/37780-Streaming-MLB-Today-Mon-May-24
anyhow that's how I watch any Red Sox game not on Fox or ESPN. Go Sox
A neat blurb I found:
ReplyDeleteIn spring training, when the Marlins visited the Red Sox in Fort Myers, Fla., Ramirez told me, “You mature, you grow up … I’ve got a long way to go. I’ve got to keep growing every day.”
Ramirez experienced “an opportunity for growth” last week. He jogged after a ball while runners were scoring and then ripped Manager Fredi Gonzalez for benching him.
Yes, Ramirez has a long way to go.
The incident only reminds us how valuable the 2007 trade was, dealing Ramirez and bringing in Beckett and Mike Lowell.
Not only did the trade bring the Red Sox a World Series title in 2007, but it allowed Ramirez room to play in a small market. With his thin skin and unpredictable ego, Ramirez may have never made it in Boston.
Two out of three from the Rays?
ReplyDeletePatrick said...

Thin skin and ego aside, he has a load of talent , and sad to say that can take you alot of places in this game....
and being in a small market may contribute to some of that behavior, who really knows...
I think I'd settle for one out of three...
ReplyDeleteJays out west, Rogers gives me NESN at 7!
ReplyDeleteI'd settle for 3 of 3 if I had to.
ReplyDeleteHey y'all, I'm hoping the link I found will work, so I can join the thread for tonight. It's been a while!
ReplyDeleteI'd settle for 3 of 3 if I had to.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Patrick. Amy- that is not the spirit...
right, 3 wins.
ReplyDeletereadjust after a game if you have to.
5.5 GB on wed pm?
good old don, talking about the FKR so-so offense, mentions only batting average
ReplyDeleteThe laser show has begun!
ReplyDeleteI mean, they're only tied for third in MLB in runs scored.
ReplyDeleteAs long as they win, I'll settle for 3-0. If they lose today (as if), then I'll settle for 2-1. Can't see beyond that.
ReplyDeleteglad to have Ellsbury back hope it doesn't take him long to get back the groove. Cameron supposingly had a monster week in triple-A.

ReplyDeleteas far as i can see, we will finish the season 141-21.
ReplyDeletedon sounding like andy: "and that will do the inning"
ReplyDeleteI just am trying to be cautious in my hopes, as is my nature. The less you expect, the better you feel no matter what happens. I just don't want to get swept.
ReplyDeleteAnd at least FY broke his hitless streak!
Cameron was with Portland in AA, I believe...to be a snot.
ReplyDelete26 to go.
ReplyDeleteEmma and I went to see the Pittsfield Colonials yesterday. They were down 7-0 after an inning and a half, then came back to win it 12-10.
ReplyDeletethey both switched from port to paw depending on the schedules...
ReplyDeleteI liked it better when there were no fans at Tampa Bay or Red Sox Nation was louder than the Rays fans. Oh now I just realized I have Sunrays telecast they probably piped in noise. Seats still look empty.
ReplyDeletesmall crowd tonight.
ReplyDeleteI'm always surprised when I see the beginning of a game and they talk about "their defense is the 5th best in the league" going by errors. It's become so amazingly obvious to me that it's meaningless I can't believe anybody is still using it.
ReplyDeletemight as well give him third...the FKR
ReplyDeleteAll those empty seats, even with the season they are having.
ReplyDeleteofer - i agree. remy is stuck in the 1860s.
ReplyDeleteMasterson sucking in Cleveland. I'm not regretting that trade at all so far.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how Nick Hagadone will develop.
called strike 2 and ball 3 in the exact same spot away.
ReplyDeleteEf this dude. Bean him in the ribs.
ReplyDeleteFucking Zobrist. He'll always be a utility guy for me...
ReplyDeletebean as leadoff hitter
ReplyDeletenot now, pls

ReplyDeletePapi of old!!!!
ReplyDeleteQUADRANGULAR!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMassive Paternal Dong!
ReplyDeletejust thinking "fatherly dong" to the tune of the Mothers of Invention's "motherly love".
ReplyDeleteclean that shit out ...
ReplyDeletePapi! (Time delay here.)
ReplyDeleteHey Nick, any idea if "Zappa plays Zappa" is worth going to? He's coming to Israel soon...
ReplyDeletebeltre 10 for 19 in last 6 games.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. They're going to be coming here, but I haven't looked into it yet.
ReplyDeleteHow soon will they be in Israel? I was going to check it out...will let you know what I know.
Ah, shit, I just lost my stream...
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Papi's got his swagger back... nothing like a big Dong to do that..his mojoe
ReplyDeleteBeltre's making me forget what's his name from last year.
ReplyDeleteshhhhh. he's on the bench, he can hear you.
ReplyDeleteQuick inning Hx2. Do it.
ReplyDeleteDoes Peña have more dongs than singles again?
ReplyDelete43 pitches for Davis.
ReplyDeleteI have heard here and there that Z plays Z is good, but I'm only passingly familiar with Zappa and don't have my own opinion.

Yeah, I was just on BRef checking it out. If he could've kept that up for a whole season last year it would've been something...
watched NY game last night..Sox oldies Bay and Cora stood out as the best. Bay's 2 dongs in the game tripled his output this year. Seems like everyone goes to the Mets, gets rich, then career goes in the toilet. Fun to watch Yankees get crushed.
ReplyDeleteawww almost got him on second tag at second..

ReplyDeleteSeems like everyone goes to the Mets, gets rich, then career goes in the toilet.
ReplyDeleteThat does seem very true.
Even for their homegrown talent: Reyes and Wright declining rapidly.
KKlay
ReplyDeleteK!
ReplyDeleteWell, it hasn't been quick or pretty, but there's no runs on the board.
Double Aych, Double Kay
ReplyDelete2nd and 3rd LOB both innings.
ReplyDeleteThat was brilliant analisys right there, on Davis: "he has not fared well against the Red Sox in the past. In two games, he's got a 10.XX ERA. But in his last start he only gave up one run". So basically he had one good start and one bad one...
ReplyDeleteHi thread. I'm not threading tonight.
ReplyDeleteGo Sox.
:>)
Davi's FIP and xFIP both hovering just below 5. TFR defense is good, but not enough to hold up this dude. He's going down.

ReplyDeleteUh oh, VMart out. Just when he was getting hot.
ReplyDeletedouble post in honor of double aych.
ReplyDeletecactus in to run.
ReplyDeletelast time tek was in the 3 hole?
ReplyDeletewhat happened to him? I was half watching on mute while emma practices violin. Limped out of the box on a ball..
ReplyDeleteIt's not often Varitek is a pinch runner.
ReplyDeleteHe got hit in the foot or ankle by an HH pitch.
ReplyDeletelast inning, bartlett fouled a ball off his left foot or btw his foot and where the shin guard ends.
ReplyDeleteStrange phenomenon occurring in our house: Harvey and I are both rooting for the Sox to win. He just urged Youkilis to get a hit. He hates Youkilis.
ReplyDeleteOops, not the pitch that got him.
ReplyDeleteah.. I kinda missed the play last inning too. Saw him stand about, but missed the play. Wonder what changed in that at bat.
ReplyDeletedang GarzaBeard!
Our Rumanian God of Walks does it again.
ReplyDeleteanother epic at bat for YOUK
ReplyDeletebig man, if you please ...
ReplyDeleteBase clearing double, base clearing double, base clearing double!!!1
ReplyDeleteSome fire, please.
ReplyDeleteThat's not the way to do it, big big Papi.
ReplyDeleteYou all are right. crazy amount of open seats. are they mad expensive?
firey salami?
ReplyDeleteI'll take it!!!
ReplyDeleteI'll take that walk.
ReplyDeletelazy run.
ReplyDeletedrew gets an rbi by doing NOTHING
ReplyDeleteBase clearing double, base clearing double, base clearing double...
ReplyDeleterally killer, pls
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAH!
ReplyDeleteAHAHAHHAHAHHA!!!!!!! 3-0
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo. The mighty Longoria.
ReplyDeleteHermida should hit a fly ball that will fall that should've been caught to get 3 RBIs, because he's like that.
ReplyDeleteremy all fucked up
ReplyDeleteitls a plat that should be made, but he totally bobbled the ball and so it;s a hit...
Bwahahahah!!!!
ReplyDeleterays ain't shit ...
ReplyDeleteBases loaded damage. Nice
ReplyDelete24 minute wait so far... says Don.
ReplyDelete24 minuttes ... SO FAR
ReplyDeletethat was a rally killer I coulda skipped, but good good.
ReplyDeleteI'm missing all the exciting plays. I saw camera shots of the roof but missed that Pedroia hit it. Was it foul/fair? what was up?
Yay!!
ReplyDeleteMan, I lose the stream for 10 minutes and we're up 4-0. I should do that more often!
ReplyDeletefy's popup hit a speaker so even though jaso caught it, it was a dead ball (foul)
ReplyDeleteHow about a real quick inning, this time, ehh?
ReplyDeletethanks, RS.
ReplyDeleteI love HH.
ReplyDeleteThanks, HH
ReplyDeleteI think Tek is going deep tonight.
ReplyDeleteYay, Tek!

ReplyDeletegood old don, talking about the FKR so-so offense, mentions only batting average
and they have 5 guys in their lineup tonight over .300 , what other team in baseball can say that.
Tek!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good chance to tax their bullpen for the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteSWEATY DONG!!!!
ReplyDeleteSWEATY!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYOOOUUUUKKKK!!!!
ReplyDeletesweat-ay dongulus!
ReplyDeleteYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

ReplyDeleteagain, the old two quick outs, then we rally
ReplyDeleteNice.. Youk is a stud.
ReplyDeleteGlad we can screw the starting pitchers ERA for a change. 5 runs charged in 4 innings.
ReplyDeleteJaso fle ou.
ReplyDelete(I swear this guy is missing a letter.)
into orbit
ReplyDeleteI would never say it to Upton, but Bossman Junior is a really dumb name.
ReplyDeleteI would never say it to Upton, but Bossman Junior is a really dumb name
ReplyDeleteI think Melvin Emmanuel might be worse...
That was very close to Beltre ending up at third (or beyond)
ReplyDeleteFG likes our chances at 92%.
ReplyDeleteCan't say I feel that comfortable, but I appreciate it.
The Pepsi mascot is doing a great Steinbrenner impersonation (looking like a shit in a suit).
ReplyDeleteHello from Florida, thread!
ReplyDeleteWas going to go to a game in this series, but financially unfeasible and a 3 hour drive...too far. Will watch Sox in Toronto.
HHHHHHH
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing in FL, Tim?
ReplyDeleteWell that was a cheap hit
ReplyDeleteLittle vacation after one hell of a tax season at work, and prior to one hell of a month of studying (june) at the school of accountancy....the next step on my way to the C.A. (Cdn equivalent of the CPA in the states)
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Tim! Well-deserved. Where in FL?
ReplyDelete8H
ReplyDeleteHH will probably go out for the 6th, hoping to get a quick out or two.
ReplyDeletei have him at 96 pit
ReplyDeleteBonita Beach! (Just south of Ft. Myers)
ReplyDeleteVery nice and laid-back.
How's everything in Amy-ville?
Amyville: Harvey is a Red Sox fan tonight!
ReplyDeleteJeepers creepers, 4 more innings!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is definitely WEIRD to have him rooting for the Sox.
ReplyDeleteWe were in Sanibel in March, Tim. We weren't big fans of Ft Myers, aside from the spring training game we saw, but Sanibel's wildlife and beaches were wonderful.
Yeah, Sanibel is beautiful! We might be doing a daytrip there tomorrow. Ft. Myers is too commercialized, well Ft. Myers Beach anyway. Haven't really seen much of the "actual" Ft. Myers....usually our days are spent lounging by the pool/beach.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is weird as hell about Harvey....even if MFY was playing TB right now, I think I'd still be rooting against the Yanks, no matter the standings/ALE leader....no chance, MFY. No chance.
I don't think I could root for the MFY, but I could diminish my rooting against them.
ReplyDeleteI'm OK w/ their being a half game closer today onna account of their being a game behind that tomorrow.
We tried to get to Ft Myers Beach and got caught in an incredible traffic jam so turned around. Downtown Ft Myers is not bad, but the rest was one big box store after another.
ReplyDeleteIf you do go to Sanibel, my top recommendation is the kayak tour in the conservation area.
Yankee fans only care about being World Champions. Harvey is single minded and does not "hate" the Sox the way I "hate" the Yankees.
ReplyDeleteNice inning for HH
ReplyDeletei think i wanted the rays to lose to the yankees so if we won, we could gain a game in the standings. (or could not lose any more ground)
ReplyDeleteNice D and very nice start by HH. Chapeau.
ReplyDeleteclay done. i think jeemer was last man up
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by to say, "hey hey hey," lookie here. In a meeting until now; hopping in the car to (unfortunately) listen to the FKR announcers bemoan this game.
ReplyDeleteHmm, kayak tour sounds like it would be cool. Dunno if the other parties (dad/Steph) would be up for that though ;)
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was down in Sanibel back in '93 (I remember because we watched the Jays win the WS) my dad and I rented bikes and did the whole island, which was sweet.
Biking through the conservation area is also fun and a fairly easy bike ride.
ReplyDeletedaang, so close to called deep cactus.
ReplyDeletejeemer: 6 up, 6 down
ReplyDeletebard in: K
sasa-heat to eva
ReplyDeleteWhy is Bard pitching? (not that I'm complaining, I like the fact that I get to watch him)
ReplyDeleteHH has been like Dice-K of old, high WHIP low ERA, lots of Ks.
ReplyDeleteGood start to this series, hopefully the next two games go like this. Would be a major boost towards getting back into contention for the east.
ReplyDelete/obvious
I wonder if they want Bard to get used to 9th inning duties. I'm not sure they want to pay 7 figures for a closer next year.
ReplyDeleteOops, I forgot I'm counting now.
ReplyDeleteOne, Two
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK
ReplyDeleteWho would you put in, Ofer? Ramram?? NO WAY...a five run lead is not enough. I am glad to see Bard in there.
ReplyDeleteAnd I feel like I can safely say now that we won't be swept so now I am hoping for 2 out of 3!
The water is Muddy!!!
ReplyDeleteSweaty, stinky water.
ReplyDeleteThree.
ReplyDeleteDirty>>Clean
Harvey says, "Good game!"
ReplyDeleteI think I'd better check his fingerprints and make sure it is really him.
Dirty, baby, dirty!
ReplyDeletesweet.
ReplyDeleteDirty good water night
ReplyDeleteSee ya guys next time.
thanks to uaa for having access to espn3.com, got to see the end of the game. gonna watch the celtics!
ReplyDeleteoff to hopefully watch the Lost finale--if I can stay awake (not that it bores me).
ReplyDeleteTime to hop on the fuck train?
ReplyDeletenice
ReplyDeleteMicrowave DFA'd.
ReplyDeleteTOR - 100 10
ReplyDeleteARZ - 000 00
Ya-freaking-hooo!
ReplyDelete2 Mondays in a row with the Sox on the tube at the bar (not the big screen last night with the NBA game on) and this one has a WAY better ending than last Monday's.
My son asked why Bard was out here in the 9th, because it wasn't a save maybe? I said "maybe, but I'm kinda hoping he's being groomed". Not that I've given up all faith in Paps but damn he makes everything so tense.
We'll see.
Now let's get a second one here to take this series and make the "turn" officially ON.
C'mon everybody, climb on board!
