From the Sad But True files: We are about to start a series against the Yankees, and I had actually forgotten it is still baseball season. The last game I was able to watch, we were eliminated. I must have blocked it out since then.

Adrian Beltre has left the team to join his wife in California for the birth of their third child. He will not be back for any of the games this weekend.
No Beltre? Oh, well, it doesn't really matter anyway, does it? It would be nice to make sure the NYY stay out of first, but aside from that, I just want our team to avoid further injuries.
Michael Kay's voice just told me there's a rain delay. I'll have to look around for NESN on some other channel. If not, radio.
rain delay
I reeeeeally want the Sox to help the Rays win the division.
Rain. So much rain...
It poured here all day. Hard to believe it is much drier 90 miles away.
Clay Buchholz has been scratched from tomorrow's game with a "stiff lower back". Tim Wakefield will start.
:( Harvey seems happy about facing Wakefield.
I can't wait til the old geezers are off the roster. It is way past time to bid a fond farewell to Varitek, Lowell and Wakefield.
These "geezers" are all younger than even you guys! But yeah, I think their baseball careers are done. I imagine Tek will take on some kind of coaching role somewhere in the organization.
These "geezers" are all younger than even you guys!
Am I trying to play professional sports? :)
If any of those guys want to take up blogging, getting a Master's degree, a little swiming and dog walking, I'm sure they'll do just fine.
In the MLB context, them's geezers!
Yes, of course. I just had to laugh at your use of the word "geezer" to describe two guys in their 30s and one in his 40s. In most contexts, I'd consider those guys youngsters!
9 PM start, apparently (from a sosher who knows tonight's plate umpire mike winters)
Last Friday, for the only Sox-NYY game I could watch, our cable and internet were out for 2.5 hours. First time that's ever happened.
This Friday, rain delay.
The universe is telling me it's time to watch movies.
Greetings, RSN.
I'm a MFY-fan (as you say in your language) who's been reading your blog for most of this season. I sometimes read the comments, but when I do I feel uncomfortable, like I'm eavesdropping.
This seemed like the right time to express my appreciation. I really like the blog. You (Alan?) have a distinctive style, a nice sense for historical significance, and it's a pleasure to see the Rivalry practiced fiercely but without a trace of the bestiality that too often diminishes both sides. I tip my cap to you.
Hope they play tonight!
Nice comment, Crito!
Radar shows one storm system moving away from Boston, but another one over Worcester, coming east.
(I am channeling Ish.)
Hm, interesting. No profile, 2 views - probably me and Allan.
but without a trace of the bestiality that too often diminishes both sides
well, most yankee fans are pig-fuckers, but i try not to mention it too often ...
I was trying to come up with a bestiality joke, but couldn't quite get there.
Jeez, unforgiving crowd. I mean, you fuck one pig...
Heh, cute. We've had our share of NYY fans calling themselves fans of the blog. They start out politely, then quickly deteriorate into subhuman trolls.
Your comment was very nice, Crito. I hope you enjoy the one or two postseason games your team may win.
PS: I don't know if those are real email addresses on that link, but you might want to find a way to share the joke without the email addresses.
Like this one that substitutes "screw one goat".
I hope you enjoy the one or two postseason games your team may win.
Now, now ...
Oh, thanks for the tip, but that page is public and has no connection to me whatsoever. I just remembered the joke and googled it up (with "pig").
And I see what you meant earlier now -- no, I don't have a profile. This Google account does require a full name for a profile, and at least for now I'd rather be anonymous. Maybe I should get a Blogger account.
Any word yet on THE GAME?
Google accounts and Blogger accounts are the same thing. A public profile does not entail using your real name. Many people have more than one Google/Blogger account, one for their real name and email address, and others for screen names.
When I googled the pig joke, I saw the same page. What a weird way to make a joke public. If those were once real addresses, I'm sure by now they've all been abandoned!
My default impression (based on past experience) of someone with 1 profile view (or 2 or 3 and a profile that was created in the month we are in now) is that it is a person who has created a new account solely to act (right away or eventually) like an asshole.
Now, now ...
What, you think they'll be swept?
Poor Crito...he didn't know what a tough crowd he was dealing with.
SoSHer went9: "I'm listening on the WEEI radio feed and no starting time yet. They did say the rain has let up and is now almost stopped but on radar there is one more small line of showers about a half hour out. If they wait those showers out, it may not start until 10 ish. After waiting this long, they better have a game."
Oh yeah, poor Crito. Like poor Harvey.
Or poor Ken. Or poor BR.
***
I say they give me time to get home and pour a glass of fun and start the game at 12:45 AM.
Yeah, those showers that were over Worcester.
It's now closer to Framingham. I doubt this game will get started at an hour I'll be awake for.
Hey, don't lump Harvey (and maybe Crito) in with B.R. Not ALL Yankee fans are assholes.
Some of my best friends---and all that.
I was absolutely not implying anything about assholes or non-assholes. Only that I see no reason to feel sorry for any NYY fan.
Oh, okay, thanks, L-Girl.
So now I have a 'blog persona' profile. Kind of trans-literary, but it will do.
And I'm very thick skinned, so I won't be deterred. (But if the hosts really do want me to go away, just say so -- in any case I won't stay long.)
Oh, me neither. No sympathy at all.
I meant "thanks Amy".
Feel free to stay. Maybe you can be the first NYY fan to post here and not gradually (or quickly) lose his shit and get tossed!
Heh.
I live in New England, and even go to Fenway sometimes, so I know how/when to shut up. (Not that knowing is the same as doing -- pace my pal, Socrates.)
I'm just being silly. I mean no harm. If you want to hang out at a Red Sox blog during a series against NYY, you are welcome to, AFAIC.
I still suspect you are Mags or Ken or Keith or BR or whoever in disguise, but if you are, we'll know soon enough. If you're not, just chalk that up to troll paranoia.
PA, EB: "The scoreboard is showing the Phillies-Braves game and there are a remarkable number of people in the stands. Given how long we've been here so far, it seems as though the Red Sox are determined to try and get the game in tonight. For both teams, it beats the alternative of a doubleheader tomorrow or Sunday."
Oh good, tarp off, grounds crew out. Maybe I'll get to watch an hour or so.
A, EI has YES, and the Rogers stations are all showing the Rays game. MLB Audio to the rescue, once again.
9:40: EEI says they are 20 minutes away from first pitch, and now it's raining hard again, grounds crew has stopped work.
Ugh.
Tarp out again. Good night.
I have to go watch (and listen to) my kid play the sax, so, ciao. I'm pretty sure the game will be on in the bar. I didn't originally intend to hang out, anyway; I really just meant to tip my hat and disappear mysteriously into the inky blackness.
Happy baseball!
Globe says a start time of 10 was planned when the tarp was coming off, but that will not happen, obviously.
Good night to anyone leaving!
I am watching something else, but if the game doesn't start soon, I won't be awake to see it.
If so, GO SOX! Keep those Yankees in second place.
TB - 000 000
KC - 103 012
Yep, it's "Smallest Game" James yet again (5-12-7-2-1).
So! (Hi everyone.) Postponed... FOX at 4:10 tomorrow and NESN at 9:05p. Fuuuun.
9pm start tomorrow after a 4pm game. I'm still going out tomorrow night, was hoping to watch some of this game.
Instead I've been watching buffy. Was going to do a laptop HD replacement once the game itself started.
guess, I'll put something else on.
get home and boozed, allan, so we can thread some SD-SF action.
or an 04 game, like you mentioned in some other thread. i'd totally be up for that if we set it up for some point during the dreary month of february.
I was hoping that this game would entertain me on my trip to Williamsburg (VA) this evening. But, no such luck. The rain we had yesterday has made its way up the coast.
i guess i should mention this now before i forget...
fuck you, mitch! lying sonofabitch. you've forsaken me. prick.
get home and boozed, allan, so we can thread some SD-SF action.
i may have to pass on that.

we should get a head count of who has the DVDs.
i still need the dvds, and they've been on my 'buy' list, so i'm glad that this will give me the extra oomph to spend the cash on them.
Have we seen the last of Adrian Beltre?
I have a home-made DVD I bought on ebay. I'm in.
