United States - 000 200 034 - 9 14 1 Canada - 020 001 010 - 4 9 2Adam Jones's two-run double in the eighth gave the US its first lead of the game. After Canada closed to within a run in its half of the eighth, Eric Hosmer added some insurance with a three-run double in the ninth.
Michael Saunders, who hit .727 in three games (8-for-11), belted a two-run homer in the second inning. Left fielder Adam Loewen - who was Canada's starting pitcher against the US back in the 2006 WBC - drove in the other two runs.
Old Hoss Radbourn approved of the final score.
Derek Holland (Rangers) / Jameson Taillon (Pirates)
The winner of this game advances to Round 2 of the tournament, joining Italy, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. (In 2006 and 2009, Canada did not make it out of the first round.)

Japan scored in every inning against the Netherlands, but because of the Mercy Rule, the game went only 7 innings.

Saw satan in his eyes? Lol . Larry Wallker said that when he was holding Alfredo in that fight between Canada and Mexico.

A double and infield error puts two on with no outs in top of 2nd. Torre calls for a bunt! Thanks for the out, Joe.
FC 5-2 cuts down the runner coming home! 2 outs!
Victorino is out 4-3 to end the inning. US does not score. Nice bunting!
Morneau doubles to start the Canadian 2nd.
Saunders dong = Canada 2-0!
Robinson follows with a single. Three hits on Holland's last four pitches.
Loewen's single and a Victorino error puts runners on 2nd/3rd, 0 outs. Orr 5-3, runners hold. Iorg strikes out looking. Gillies 4-3. Damn, that's a wasted opportunity for more runs that will likely haunt Canada later in this game.
Taillon gets the US's 1-2-3 hitters 1-2-3.
Home Umpire blows 3 of 5 taken pitches during Braun's AB.= in the 3rd.
US ties it 2-2 in top of 4th.
Victorino K's between Hosmer and Rollins singles as the US threatens. It occurs to me that we may be paying Victorino $13m to bat ninth for us this year, too.
The Yanks article you link in comment #3 is great. I shared on FB.
Top 8: US, down by a run, has 1st/2nd, no outs. Again, they try to bunt. Zobrist pops out to catcher! Jones should have been run up, but ump calls the 0-2 strike a ball. Amnd Jones takes advantage by doubling on the next pitch, scoring 2 runs and giving the US a 4-3 lead.
FUCK YOU, BRIAN KNIGHT!
U-S-A! U-S-A!

With 2 outs, Victorino singles in a run. US 5-3.
I'd say this was war vs health care, but Canada is in the war business too, now. Battle for North America? I think Mexico will win that.
This game would have been a good one on which to test the ball/strike robots. Assuming they exist.
Okay, Canada, you got 6 outs to get at least 2 runs. Let's go.
It's not often we get the chance to root against each other on JoS.
Oh shit, I thought the inning was over. It was just a pitching change.
Okay, now it's over. How aboot some runs, eh?
Votto starts it with an infield single. Woo hoo!
Morneau strikes out, dropping his WBC average to .636. Saunders bunts for a single; he's hitting .727! 1st/2nd, 1 out.
Ah hah! Going to argue with a bunt single, Alan?
Robinson singles to left. Loaded for Loewen!
DP USA!
Yah, RBI groundout! He should have bunted!
In play, run(s)!
But it's an RBI groundout. 5-4 now, with 2 outs.
Was he bunting for a hit? I'll go for that.
BBI loads them up again for Iorg. Be a hero, whoever you are...
Shit, PH Smith grounds out to second.
Damn, US gets an insurance run.
...and then some.
Hosmer doubles in 3 more. Fuckin frozen moose balls.
Is that a specifically Canadian expression of frustration?
Kimbrel in.
Gillies K looking.
Green L9.
Votto K looking.
And that's it.
Well, there are moose in Canada. And it's cold. And many of those moose have balls. ... But not that I know of.
All right.
Next game I watch (or "watch") will be April 1.
