G112: Royals 5, Red Sox 4

How bad can things get?
Royals 9th: Red Sox lead 4-3. Papelbon pitching. German triples. Gathright strikes out. DeJesus flies out to left, German scores, game tied 4-4. Grudzielanek doubles to left field wall. Sweeney singles to left, Grudzielanek scores, KC wins 5-4.
In Chicago, the Yankees blew a 7-0 lead, but Rivera stranded the potential tying run at third and beat the White Sox 7-6. The Twins also won, so Boston fell 3 GB in the East and 1.5 GB in the wild card.

oh yeah, yook back at the top: 2 walks and a double.

also nice to see wily e. pena batting after manny.

manny at 24 games and javy knocked in two. that was pleasant.

you seem so calm, red sock ;)

i wanna think 'yeah, this doesn't mean anything. the time to get hot is in september'

but i just wonder how far we will fall behind before we get there. it's insane that we didn't win tonight.

I've gone to watch the 2004 Post Season on DVD - perhaps that will inspire me to keep faith. Yikes - its bad - real bad!

last i checked the Red Sox were playing the worst baseball they have played all year and are still just one game out of the Wild Card and 3 games out of the Division. The Dodgers were 5 games out of the AL West just last week, and now they are looking good. Teams get hot and cold. This team is cold. If they get hot starting tonight, we could be looking at a 1 game deficit for next weekends long series against the MFY.

So many things are going wrong at the same time that you have to think that the team is not this bad. Blowing 4-run leads vs shit teams, Paps looking human twice in a row, Manny red-hot at the plate but his mates can only bang into rally-killing GIDPs. Better bounces have to be ahead, and that happens when we play the teams we have to beat. On a more sobering note, hurry back, 'tek. I'm not likeing the Javy Lopez era--he's playing more like a AAA call-up than a former all-star. And he should keep his mouth shut.

Tek is a big part of the Sox's funk. But things have to get better. Curt tonight, and if the time is right, a Paps' save to boot. And then home to Fenway, for one pancake series, and then big guns. And right now there is no such thing as a pancake series. Maybe I'm just hungry.

And just now, about 1:40 or so Eastern time, were you guys mentioned on a comment at Jere's blog. You should read it...I'm sure you have the link. Peter

How about getting swept by the worst team in the majors.

for one reason or another, that game, this series, has not been genuine. back to back nights papelbon, then schilling give up the tying and winning runs within one inning late in the game? that is bullshit. major (fuckin general) bullshit.
