Dodgers-Mets is a great match-up for many New Yorkers and former New Yorkers. My grandfather would have loved it.

Just came across this live Mets postseason special on SNY when I read above Dodgers-Mets comment. They're filming outside, by Radio City. I should run down there and get on TV. But too lazy. Good call, though. Dodgers-Mets, the battle of Long Island. I want the Mets to win in terms of them being the anti-Yankees, but yet I fear them playing each other in the W.S., because the Mets turn into Little Leaguers when they see the pinstripes. So I almost have to root for them to get taken out. Then again, if they're the best the NL has to offer, I guess I have to just root for them, in case the Yanks do make it.

Of course I'll root for Nomar whenever he bats.

My grandfather, from Brooklyn, was a huge Mets fan during my lifetime. When I was a kid, I could never understand why he wasn't a Yankees fan. My parents told me, "Because he was a Dodgers fan, and the Mets are like the Dodgers" or "Because he was a Dodgers fan, and the Dodgers became the Mets".

What kind of an explanation is that??

It was many years before I understood, and no thanks to my parents.

I still love to hear that.

Sorry. It's in there really deep.

I've always felt less strongly about being anti-Yankee than being anti-National League. I can't cheer for an NL team, except when the Expos were good and even then I wasn't put to the real test in a WS. My grandfather introduced me to the Montreal Royals and their parent Dodgers. When they moved to LA (and the Royals folded) he was apopletic. I was already a Red Sox fan and didn't care much about the Dodgers, but was as pissed as any 10-year old can be about the Royals. Then the Expos. Christ, I hate the National League.
Unfortunately, I'm with the majority who thought the only hope of anyone beating the Yanks would be the Twins in a short series. Now it will have to be the A's, IF thy can beat the Twins in a short series. I don't think so.

Right on, SFSF. I also hate the NL. Don't consider it the same sport. (Which is kinda true, since the leagues play by different rules.) But, alas, any team, in any league, I root for against the Yanks.

Yet the NL plays the proper game, by the proper rules.

Down with the DH!

I really wonder how much of the post-season I'll watch. ... I used to be quite compulsive about watching every pitch of every game.

The ESPN and Fox announcers are always crap -- I'll watch the Sox on mute, but not a general game. And I'm not up for the copious amounts of MFY luv that will gush from my TV speaker.

I was really looking forward to watching Pedro, but that won't happen.

I like the DH, but I'd gladly scrap it for a uniform rule for both leagues. IMO, Bud's biggest failure is to allow the 2 leagues to play with a fundamentally different rule.

I don't like the DH, but I'd gladly see both leagues use it to get one uniform rule.

It's the most insane thing about MLB, two ML teams playing under different rules, then having to use different rules during the most important games of the year.
