This recalls my former days with my former team, when an email buddy and I had rhyme schemes for every player, and an epic rhyming poem about the '98 team.

ReplyDeleteI don't know the tune either, but I know the name of the song for some reason, so I guessed that was it.
ReplyDeleteI say "for some reason" because growing up in the mostly-Jewish suburbs in Rockland County, NY, I didn't hear many Xmas carols, and now I avoid them the way some here avoid Michael Kay.
and the line about the snow being "Deep and crisp and even" caused me to think, "Gee, that sounds like a potential Sox outfield!"
Ha! Love it.
the delicate satire, the immensly subtle plays on phrases and words, and the delicious ironic references to its subtextual fabric built into the parody...
But the modesty and humility of the composer really shines through.
