G101: Cleveland 1, Red Sox 0

This was as frustrating as last night's game was exciting.

Boston didn't get its first hit until infield singles by Crisp and Ortiz in the sixth inning and Varitek's single to right leading off the eighth was only the second ball the Red Sox had hit to the outfield to that point.

Only two Red Sox runners reached second base: Pedroia in the fourth (HBP and PB) and Crisp in the sixth (infield single to short and running on a grounder to third).

Crisp was thrown out at the plate on Ortiz's infield hit (which Barfield actually fielded in short right center) -- Coco slowed down on the way home and was a dead duck. In the eighth, Varitek was erased on a botched hit-and-run and Lugo was also caught stealing to end the inning.

Beckett (8-4-1-0-7, 114) was as strong as Carmona (8-4-0-2-6, 113), but Gutierrez's home run to left in the third was the difference.

***

Josh Beckett (3.41, 132 ERA+) / Fausto Carmona (3.52, 124 ERA+)

You went to a bar in Western Mass and were the only faithfuls? Give me the name and I'll send the teamsters to straighten those people out!

  13. I know you are not one for jinxes , curses and superstitions...

But 5-0 is hard to argue with when Team WMTC is in New England......

I was actually having withdrawals from posts when you were gone....

If things hit the skids all of a sudden you can come and stay here.......or maybe jere's :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. OK, here we go.

They did do the chicken dance at the wedding. I saw it from afar, did not partake and did not know it was a New England tradition. Sorry. :)

Nephew lives in Northampton, we caught the last 5 innings of Lester's game in a bar there, lots of fans around.

The cafe where we watched Dice-K's duel w/ CC was not really a sports venue, there's just a little TV behind the bar. Our nephew who we were visiting is a musician, massage therapist, natural foods guy, but also a great sports fan - Eagles mostly, but Sox too. It was a rare opp'y for him to have other fans to watch a game with.

Other peeps in the place were hanging out off and on. They were all Sox "fans" - you know, they live in Mass, what else are they gonna be. But not fans.

    Any other questions?

  19. Hey Remy, here's my suggestion:

SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE FUCKING STUPID RSN PREZ SHIT! SHUUUUUUUUT THE FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK UP!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. dear remy:

please stop trying to turn our baseball experience into a theme park. stick to the game and cut the cutsey crap.

    signed,
    a new citizen

    ReplyDelete
  21. Actually, I think the Sox told Remy, you can push the Rem Report as long as you push the Red Sox nation. Just wait, in a few minutes something will be said about something at Remdawgs.

    ReplyDelete
  22. i swear that if the yankees offered remy a stronger server for his website and a salary of a nickel more than nesn pays him, he'd claim he was a lifelong yankee fan and gladly go whore for them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. s1c, i've thought that too. it really turns me off.

    ReplyDelete
  24. You know guys, usually a HIT helps in these types of situations!

why does carmona have to be pitching a no hitter?

    ReplyDelete
  25. L-girl, remember at the beginning of the season, it seemed like Remy wasn't pushing his site (I think we mentioned it on one of the game threads), then Luccino said something about Red Sox nation and etc. etc.. Now its Rem page this, red sox nation that.

    Just drives me nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  26. s1c, i agree with you. he was very quiet about his stuff, now it is as bad as it ever was.

    how about HIT please...

    ReplyDelete
  27. the &#9814 gets his dander up!

  28. s1c: something is being posted as a little box. ???

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can see it and I didn't know what it was:)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Carmona's pitching a shutout and has yet to give up a homer to Manny. A long homer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. One hell of a shutout indeed - he hasnt given up ANY HRs to bston yet!

    ReplyDelete
  32. (I didn't actually Jhonny up that typo of Boston - it was a wholesome, legit typo)

    ReplyDelete
  33. i see nothing but a very tiny box.

    ...

car moaner should not be shutting us out on 2 inf hits.

    ReplyDelete
  34. it'll be rally time in the 8th with:

    varibelli
    hinske
    einstein

    ReplyDelete
  35. car moaner

    buwahaha - plow!

he has been a good pitcher for them though...another case of a rookie thwarting the sox bats.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Red Sox notes: Though the Red Sox haven't announced what Schilling will do after Thursday's start, he's all but certain to pitch again at the Minor League level.

"We know what we're going to do. We haven't announced it yet," Francona said. "I think, regardless of what I say, I think you have to use some common sense, that he needs to pitch.

If Schilling goes six innings in his 65-70 pitch start and they say start another one at Pawsox watch the fireworks.

Were you guys surprised that Piniero took the assignment?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Were you guys surprised that Piniero took the assignment?

He passed thru waivers, so no. A little surprised no one claimed him, though.

I see G38 has been yakking about 'roids again.

    ReplyDelete
  38. tek's hit the 2nd ball of any kind hit out of the infield for the sox tonight

    ReplyDelete
  39. Did you see the interview? I haven't but what i've read it seems he's saying, look if these people accused you and you didn't do it why aren't you suing their a**** off!

Were you guys surprised that Piniero took the assignment?

He pitched 3 inn. of no hit ball for the pawsox tonight....So we will see what happens..

    ReplyDelete
  41. Was Mike Lowell traded? why not hit him for Hinske or Cora

    ReplyDelete
  42. Woohoo, another ball hit in the air. We're making this guy look like what the Yankee organization sees Wang as.

Oh my lord, another missed sign involving Tek.

    ReplyDelete
  43. no lowell because fausto is killing righties .245BAA

    ReplyDelete
  44. most players don't sue for the stupid shit that gets said about them in the media.

and the "wipe their records out" is beyond childish.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mike Lowell and Lugo needed the day off because the four month offseason plus built in days off plus the three day All-Star break that just happened aren't nearly enough.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i wish we were hitting .245 tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Tim, this may sound stupid, but I can't get behind calling him Slugo because that was former Yankee catcher Don Slaught's nickname.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mike Lowell and Lugo needed the day off because the four month offseason plus built in days off plus the three day All-Star break that just happened aren't nearly enough.

Lowell went to the ASG, so there! Nyah!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lugo: What do you mean being tagged well before reaching the bag means I'm out?!

    ReplyDelete
  50. You got me. All those days off minus one then.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Why was it his nickname? I don't know, the SL-? He certainly didn't slug anything.

    ReplyDelete
  52. give me a break.

    6/1 - Sox record 1 run games 8-3. (vs lefties 9-4).

A loss tonight would make them 15-15 in 1 runs. (vs lefties 15-14).

As for wiping out their records! Like I said I haven't seen the interview so not sure what to say.

    ReplyDelete
  53. ok that was supposed to be sonovabitch not sonawabitch. but ok. frustration level is high, that's all that was.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Tim, this may sound stupid, but I can't get behind calling him Slugo because that was former Yankee catcher Don Slaught's nickname.

Eeeeee. Will refrain. it really should have been sLugo, but too lazy to do the capitalization earlier. However, in true unlaziness I've written this much filler rather than just hitting the shift button earlier. If that doesn't do it for you, how about I spell it true to it's pronunciation: sLügo?

    ReplyDelete
  55. curt said that because bonds and mcguire didn't sue the people who said bad things said about them, it is pretty much an admission of guilt.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Why was it his nickname? I don't know, the SL-? He certainly didn't slug anything.

Was he a slug on the basepaths?

    ReplyDelete
  57. meaning curt is showing what an idiot he is -- yet again.

we'll see if he has to apologize yet again.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Schill Article.

Maybe I'll invite him to rent a jeep with me and patrol the mexican border with shotguns, all the while singing Kumbayah.

    ReplyDelete
  59. oh forget about don slaught 1 everyone else has. lugo when he's hitting is slugo whether jere likes it or not. pronounced slooogo.

    ReplyDelete
  60. sLugo with the Motley Crue over the U is acceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  61. slooogo.

I like the ü - pronunciation is the same, but it has that lovely German flare to it - you don't see that nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Curt on HBO's "Costas Now":

"If someone wrote that stuff about me and I didn't sue their (butt) off, am I not admitting that there's some legitimacy to it?"

"this will be the steroids era forever"

"Jose Canseco admitted he cheated his entire career. Everything he ever did should be wiped clean. I think his MVP should go back and should go to the runner-up."

As for Palmeiro, Schilling said: "The year he tested positive, nothing he did that year should count, which I think would take away 3,000 hits for him."

    ReplyDelete
  63. Well he is an idiot that you only have to put up with for 2 more months.

    ReplyDelete
  64. L: I must get it from my dad--when I was 5, and Remy was the Sox' second baseman, he was called Scooter, so I wanted to be called Scooter. But my dad didn't allow it because of Rizzuto.

    ReplyDelete
  69. but scooter will be forever associated w/ rizzuto. don't give silly don slaught such a lofty status.

    ReplyDelete
  70. lets dü it!

ohhh man, now i've got a serious case of the ALT 0252s!

I agree...just because he clammed up in congress, and says so with costas, he said you don't want to say something about somebody "under oath" unless you know it to be 100% fact.....But i guess it is allright to say how you truly feel to Bob Costas....

    ReplyDelete
  73. horrible timing by orsillo.

down 0-1, 9th inning, and he's telling borowski's life story - in detail.

  74. Hey I said two because I expect no less than ALCS, but tell me who and status of the pitchers before I guarantee the WS.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I didn't know the ground was part of the strike zone.

    ReplyDelete
  76. It helps when the catcher brings it up a foot.

It is when "Yankee Joe" West is in the crew.

Assuming that was directed at me (due to my schilling border comment a few minutes ago) - saw that, jokes.

  84. alright ladies and gents - time for me to be a socialite. (big difference between that and a socialist! ;-) )

    see all yall tamorra

    ReplyDelete
  85. Superstition - don't say what you want unless you have control. Last time I looked I have no control over these guys, and 15-15 in 1 run games don't help.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Teahan up, 2 on, 2 out, KC down two in the seventh.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The great Mike Myers gets him. Come on, Royals. Two innings left.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Quickly it's a 5-run lead. We should've cleaned up on the Royals when we had them in our park. That was a terrible job by us.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Superstition - don't say what you want unless you have control.

I'll put as much stock in that as I do all superstitions.
