Contreras yielded five runs on 10 hits over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Since last year's All-Star break, the big right-hander has lost 20 times.Contreras's ERA:
against Red Sox: 8.56
at Fenway Park: 9.69
It is foolish in this game to decide that there is any one game that you must win. But between this pitching matchup and the recent, uh, slide -- I need this one. At the risk of turning into a Yankee fan clone who whines about the natural vargaries of the game, I feel like I need us to win tonight.
ReplyDeleteSo somebody do a voodoo ritual or something.
I'll see what I can do. But I don't think we'll need any help tonight.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Yanks play a doubleheader tomorrow. I always feel like that means a team has more of a chance to get at least one loss, playing twice in one day. So we got that goin' for us.
Is it a bad matchup?
ReplyDeleteAs a White Sox Contreras is 3 and 0 with a 3.86 ERA, with a 1.29 WHIP and averaging 6.42 innings per start.
As Butch Stearns would say; "I'm not to sure about that".

ReplyDeleteBeckett should be driven by the fact that C.C Sabathia was the first 13 game winner.
If thats what drives him we are in trouble........

Maybe this crew is just trying to be consistent. ♊
that is f*cking bullsh*t
ReplyDeleteShould be 3-0, when its going bad its going bad. Tito should have done more than just scream.
ReplyDelete♊
Holy crap, 2-run error on the umps.
ReplyDeleteunFUCKINGbelievable
ReplyDeleteCoco❣❣❣
ReplyDeleteEdwar Ramirez just gave up a grand slam for the MFYs. TB's up 9-0.
ReplyDelete"Edwar Ramirez just gave up a grand slam for the MFYs. TB's up 9-0."
ReplyDeleteAfter walking two batters, and before walking two more. And that was it for him. 0 innings, 4 BB, 3 ER. 19 pitches, 2 were strikes. With one of those being the grand slam. One of the worst 5-batter performances of all-time. 10-0 Rays, and now 10-3 Sox!
Slugo..........225.......47 rbis
ReplyDeleteWas the crowd going ape shit?
Slugo is hitting.407 for the month of July.
ReplyDeleteJust for comparison he hit .089 in June
please tell me someone else noticed Beckett flipping off Pierzynski???
ReplyDeleteROFL
Jere, another thing TIMMEH looks sharp in July also.....
ReplyDeleteBeckett's passionate reaction when (who was it?) got thrown out trying to stretch a hit into a double was classic. Just screaming and yelling.
ReplyDeleteMan, we needed this.
awesome game, despite the ridiulous blown call by the blind umps (hello, glasses fellas) top plays for me:
ReplyDelete1) the hinkse bunt single
2) bases clearing coco triple
3) beckett happy/angry/psyched outburst on the throw-out of aj at 2nd for the 3rd out of the 6th [sparks. we need sparks!]
4) beckett all-around.
5) bullpen was excellent
6) GS by lugo followed by curtain call [and hugs from manny xo]
7) tito getting thrown out arguing the blown call on jd's HR [more sparks]
this game felt so relieving. it was looking so shitty to start, with the blown call and then the homer by thome, but alls well that ends well ;) well done sox!
Yes, 9, he's doing awesome. Like your list, tdcg, that pretty much sums it up.
ReplyDeleteAnd Timlin's gone from White Flag to Goose Egg.
ReplyDeleteWas never white flag to me. We can still call him that, though, as in white flag for the other team.
