Red Sox - 000 000 050 - 5 9 0A rare blown save and loss from Jeemer (after Dimmer spit the bit).
Orioles - 100 000 041 - 6 9 0
It was a shame, since Dice pitched well (7-4-1-4-7, 113) and we had finally knocked Bedard out of the game and lit up the O's pen. Nice hits from WMP and Lugo in the 8th to get on the board and take a lead.
The MFY beat Cleveland 6-1 by the ocean to close the gap to 5 GB.
***
Daisuke Matsuzaka (3.70, 123 ERA+) / Erik Bedard (3.09, 144 ERA+)
Dice is only three strikeouts away from tying Ken Brett's rookie club record of 155 K, set in 1970.
Bedard was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for July, the first Oriole to be chosen since Ben McDonald in April 1994. On July 31, Bedard held the Sox to two hits in six scoreless innings.
The Yankees are in Cleveland tonight (Hughes/Carmona).
anyone have the lineup?
ReplyDeleteI usually get them from Extra Bases. Not up yet, though.
ReplyDeleteAmalie Benjamin says Mirabelli is throwing BP.
ReplyDeleteThe Stud Who Allows Bombs?
ha. i love this blog
ReplyDeleteI'll be away until game time (hopefully not too much longer), so if anyone gets lineups, post away.
ReplyDeleteThe same Amalie who wishes she was watching something called "Homicide" right now?
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen the line ups yet! Correction though Red - I show he gave up a two run bomb by Ortiz in the third!
ReplyDeleteStill, this guy has been spectacular in his last ten starts. That includes the start against the Red Sox on 7/31/2007 in which he went 6 innings of two hit ball and earned the win over Josh Beckett. In those ten starts he is 8 and 0 with a 2.27 ERA and is averaging 6.73 innings per start with a .86 WHIP. In other words he has been spectacular.
Weei saying that the Line up is:
ReplyDeleteLugo SS
Pedroia 2b
Ortiz DH
Ramirez LF
Youkilis 1b
Lowell 3b
Varitek C
Crisp CF
WMP RF
Wily Mo is 5 for 9 vs Bedard in his career.
On the morning of July 20, the Red Sox led the MFY by 6.5 games.
ReplyDeleteIn the 18 games since, the MFY have gone 14-6 and Boston has gone ... 13-6.
So in almost 3 weeks, New York has made up only .5 games.
At that pace, it will take them about 36 weeks -- 9 months -- to catch the Red Sox.
Panic? I don't think so.
The above comment would make a good post.
ReplyDeleteIt might even be posted in JoS's greatest hits in the sidebar.
Can Wily Mo say that he's one-half of a $15.875 mil. platoon?
ReplyDelete1. Julio Lugo, SS
ReplyDelete2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Kevin Youkilis, 1B
6. Mike Lowell, 3B
7. Jason Varitek, C
8. Coco Crisp, CF
9. Wily Mo Pena, RF
1. Brian Roberts, 2B
2. Corey Patterson, CF
3. Nick Markakis, RF
4. Miguel Tejada, SS
5. Kevin Millar, 1B
6. Aubrey Huff, DH
7. Melvin Mora, 3B
8. Ramon Hernandez, C
9. Tike Redman, LF
The above comment would make a good post.
ReplyDeleteDone.
whats up wiht direct tv not using the nesn feed as of late?! UGH
ReplyDeleteMLBTV has the O's feed (aka bird droppings).
ReplyDeleteThis is highly annoying. Is NESN not properly bribing the PTB?
1-0 Birds, but I still get to slap my crotch and yell "fuck ya, miggy!"
ReplyDeletePlease, think of the children.
ReplyDeleteAre there any kids reading this? Raise your hand.
ReplyDeleteMFY up 2-0
ReplyDeletei love how the yanks make every team look like the drays, as of late. and theyre doing it again with the indians vs. carmona. unbelievable

Lugo is a Redsock and I assume you are a Redsock fan, support your team , and don't freak out in the 4th Inning.......
I thought maybe he got picked off again and Gameday was slow.
ReplyDelete"Lugo is a Redsock and I assume you are a Redsock fan, support your team , and don't freak out in the 4th Inning....... "
ReplyDeleteThanks 9Casey. :)
L, your Welcome
ReplyDeleteWe all have our favourite players and the guys we dislike. You all know who mine are. :)
ReplyDeleteBut why not save hate for the enemy?
I have been working. Are the Sox batters mailing in their ABs?
ReplyDeleteNo, Bedard's been that good.
ReplyDeleteAnd 95 thru 7 for the Canadian.
ReplyDeleteGet into the pen while it's still only 1-0.

Varibelli with the hit.
ReplyDeleteWe got "I turned on MLBTV mojo"!
I haven't been a Sox fan very long, but I've been a baseball fan all my life. I won't hate my own players.
ReplyDeleteFormer managers, yes.
Current players, no.
Nixon33, calm the fuck down. You voiced an opinion and people said something back to you, is all.
ReplyDeleteyou can hate lugo all you want. it's fine with me. however, some people may disagree with you. that's all.
ReplyDeletethe hatred has decreased since 2004, i will admit that. but before that, we hated many sox more than most yankees.
I wanna WMD from WMP.
ReplyDeleteWMP vs bedard numbers finally show their face tonight!
ReplyDeleteafter all thats what this place is for.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what this means. I hope it means this is a place where you can voice your opinion -- as opposed to where certain opinions are valid (or backed up) and some are not.
FUCK YAH WILY!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletenail that canuck!!!
bye bye erik shit the bed-ard.
ReplyDeleteOkay, Lugo -- N33 wants some bingo!
ReplyDeleteTrot, I have been ripped on this site numerous of times, And if you are looking for lolli's , and Baloons. This might not be the place for you.......
ReplyDeleteIf anything this a place that gives you knowledge and let's you voice your opinions in any form you wish too, but don't be ignorant and not expect to called on it...
woo fucking hoo.
ReplyDeletebuntugo!
Palmer's assinine partner's calling of balls and strikes reminds me of why I mute foreign announcers. I keep trying to give them a chance ... And Lugo with the bunt
ReplyDelete"don't get picked off, julio"
ReplyDelete;)
If anything this a place that gives you knowledge and let's you voice your opinions in any form you wish too, but don't be ignorant and not expect to called on it...

For me, Tejada screwing up is almost as sweet as CI screwing up. Amazing, but true!!!

What more can you ask from a game thread.

Umm, Eric? Not all the Canadian pitchers in the game have to cough up a lead tonight.
ReplyDeleteStart dimming.
I guess he didn't hear you. Next time speak French.
ReplyDeletePoor JD. Must be the money!
ReplyDeleteJD deserves a raise for that wonderful play. Wow Gagne sure does make things exciting. I'm so glad we got him.
ReplyDeleteWell, the best thing about gange is that if he pulls an edgar-as-a-pitcher, it's not the end of the world, we still have an amazing bullpen!
ReplyDeletewhat the hell was in the bullpen water cooler tonight?
ReplyDeletediareia juice?
ReplyDeleteget it...shit the bed...renteria...get it...

ReplyDeleteunreal. seriously. un-fuckin-real. :X
ReplyDeleteanyone else afraid they have overused Okajima?
well, there's another game tomorrow... we will have to get 'em then
laura- of course. I'm just too young to have seen any real horrid moments except for 03, so I haven't been weathered yet ;)
ReplyDeletejoe: yeah, that's why we have gange. gah.
I'm just too young to have seen any real horrid moments except for 03, so I haven't been weathered yet ;)
ReplyDeleteyou are plenty fuckin' weathered. 2003 was the worst.
yup, 03 = worst ever.
ReplyDeletebut 04 was more awesome than 03 was bad, so it's kinda like who the fuck cares about 03 now (sorta. my heart was just like 'wait')
I dunno, my elder generation can make a pretty good case for 78, 86, etc, and as DCG says, I had 2004 a mere year later.
ReplyDelete03 was a truly depressing experience, but what I really meant was if I were 75 and it were 2003, my comment about "life of a red sox fan" could not be countered by laura ;)
See you guys tomorrow.
I dunno, my elder generation can make a pretty good case for 78, 86, etc
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm old. I was 14 in 1978, so I dealt with both of them, and for me 2003 was the absolute rock bottom worst. in no small part because the players did no wrong. but they couldn't overcome their shit for brains manager.
and as DCG says, I had 2004 a mere year later.
true, but you had no idea about that in october 2003.
hell, for more than half of october 2004 you had no idea about that.
tomorrow we shall conquer.
ReplyDeleteI'm just too young to have seen any real horrid moments except for 03, so I haven't been weathered yet ;)
ReplyDeleteMy conversion to the Red Sox happened in the summer of 03. My first experience with the team was having my heart crushed and watching the person I love having his heart ripped apart, shredded and stomped on.
I'd say you and are weathered. It won't ever be worse than that.
I dunno, my elder generation can make a pretty good case for 78, 86, etc, and as DCG says, I had 2004 a mere year later.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear any Sox fan argue that 78 or 86 was worse than 2003.
Remember, in 2003 you have the memories of 78 and 86. That alone makes it worse.
Then you have what Allan said. The players were phenomenal. It was perfection. And someone gave it away.
But anyway, what I really meant to say was...
hell, for more than half of october 2004 you had no idea about that.
For most of the season, too. That's worth remembering.
PS Redsock you are not old. I'm older than you, and I'm not old, so you're not old either, so there, nyah nyah.
you and are weathered
ReplyDeleteyou and ^I^ are weathered
tomorrow we shall conquer
ReplyDeletenice to see that in there :)
Well, I'm old. I was 14 in 1978, so I dealt with both of them, and for me 2003 was the absolute rock bottom worst. in no small part because the players did no wrong. but they couldn't overcome their shit for brains manager.
ReplyDeleteSlightly older, so I dealt with the 75 Series (still the greatest 7 game series IMHO), the 78 collapse was agonizing because of Gerbil and the 86 was excruciating because we were 1 strike away but after the wild pitch you just knew it was going to go bad.
2003 though left me in a daze for two days. It also cost me a new remote for the basement TV since I threw it against the wall making many new pieces of broken plastic.
The Sox did every thing right but the stupid manager let the players down. It also was the first time that my daughter had felt the "curse".
I remember on the following Saturday talking to my niece and daughter as I made waffles, that the worst thing their dads had done was let them become Red Sox fans. Bucky "bleeping" Dent, the '86 world series etc. etc. were detailed for them with the words that next year may never come. 2003 made 2004 that much sweeter but man did it hurt.
Wow, just got home and checked the score. Looks like Gagne needs to pull the spoon out of his throat and pitch better. He's making the trade look like a bad thing.
ReplyDeleteWeird, I was going through the end of the game posts on this thread and had major deja vu...thats like 3 of them in the past couple days. What the hell is wrong with me.
2003 made 2004 that much sweeter but man did it hurt.
ReplyDeleteDitto. 2003 was my first ultra-serious year as a Red Sox fan - watching every game, following online etc. Prior to that, I would watch a bunch of games but wasn't as 'die hard' as 2003 became.
I don't even know how to describe the emptiness I felt in 2003. I was in Florida on vacation for basically all of the playoffs and it was such an amazing time, then with about a week left in the trip Boone crushed my hopes of driving over to Miami to see the Red Sox in the world series. I really felt desolate, empty for the remainder of the trip. I mean, clearly it was an awesome vacation, but I no longer had games to look forward to at night after getting back from the beach.
If anyone can lose this thing, it's the Dead Sox.
ReplyDeleteGame 7 2003 was Allan's 40th birthday. We were still in NYC, the whole ciy was electric with anticipation. It was the 1st series that Allan and I were ever on the same side. (No one knew but him.) It was so much fun.
ReplyDeleteWe went to Union Square Cafe, our favorite place, had lunch at the bar. The two bartenders were wearing a Boston cap and a NY cap. This is not a sports bar, it's one of the city's top restaurants.
We were so sure it was going to go our way.
****
I'm glad I went through 2003. If I had become a fan in 2004, what would that be? I'd never have been tested. I haven't shared much of Red Sox pain, but I did share that bit of it.
Someone mentioned concern that Jeemer might be being over-used? I share that.
ReplyDeleteThat was me. I've been worried about that for about a month now. Even though he's been doing fine, it concerns me to see that he's made so many appearances.
ReplyDeleteWe need him down the stretch.
If anyone still checks this- nice words guys. 2003 definitely almost made me quit, but once there was a new manager, I felt like my heart could take another year ;). Worth it!
ReplyDeleteAs for oki- well, he's definitely going to have pitched more innings than usual by the end of the year. That's why theo found bought gange, but if gange can't do his job, then we do what we have to, there's no other choice. I don't think tito's wasting oki on non critical situations, so it's either MDC or gange that has to come up big to save his arm a little. Trust me, the last thing I want is a tom gordon thang going.
