Wakefield (8-2-0-2-6, 100) started this gem off with six no-hit innings. Snuffer pitched the ninth, walking one and striking out two.
Lugo came through in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4. He singled in the first and scored on Ortiz's double to dead center. That was the game's only run until the seventh when Lugo singled after Mirabelli and Hinske had walked with two outs. Lowell drove in Manny in the eighth.
Of Wakefield's 100 pitches, 72 were strikes. He went to three balls on only two Rays -- the two guys he walked (Iwamura in the 4th, Navarro in the 6th). Wakefield threw a first-pitch strike to 21 of his 27 batters.
It's Boston's 10th shutout of the year, tying them with Seattle for the most in the American League.

You are correct about the NFL....but are they seriously testing the way they should? Do you think that there are no 'roids in the NFL or that maybe just a few are sneaking by? I think it's a joke...just like MLB testing....of course, that's just my opinion.
9Casey....Anderson will be getting a nice payoff from Bonds when he gets out!

I knew you would catch that.....
I haven't seen it, but it has been reported on WEEI that there was a survey done before one of the Olympics along the same lines as Bouton's quote. Supposedly the answer was overwhelmingly yes.

Recent quote from Jim Bouton, author of ball Four: He said in his day (1960s) if someone had come along as said "take this, you'll win 20 games but it will knock 5 years off your life", pitchers would have stampeded to use it.
Shit , thats like asking me to try this it will add 8in. to your manhood but you will take five years off your life ..Would you do it???????
What about the Govt?
As for the NFL testing, oh, they are serious about it. Just ask any player. Somebody got suspended not to long ago, because they made two surprise visits, for samples but the guy wasn't there.
The problem is that masking and finding better chemical processes are always ahead of enforcement / detection.
Nice chatting with you all. I'm calling it a night. Chat with you later.
Go Sox!

What about the Govt?
They changed baseball, Do you think Bud would have but the new rules into place without the Grand Jury and the Senate hearings?
Later-----Diddy
Actually, the senate hearings forced the unions hands on the issue more than the owners.
Basically, Bud said, hey we want to but you know the players won't let us.
Had to comment on 9Casey's last post....If it would add 8 inches I would not do it.....who needs an 18 inch unit...I mean that would just be painful to the ladies wouldn't it?
Of course players will take it. MLB can't detect it and it might help them get tens of millions of dollars they otherwise wouldn't have received. These are guys who have been battling to be the best all their lives.
18 inches (snort)
I certainly have my issues with the US government, but I don't understand what you're getting at. Maybe it's late.
I question the govt getting involved in this at all (have they solved all the other problems in the country?). But the hearings are great for hollow grandstanding and acting like they are doing something good.
"hollow grandstanding" in other words being a politician.
Stay out of my pockets and my bedroom. Thats all I want the Govt to do.
Later guys ........Till the kid makes his return to Fenway........
