Red Sox - 001 202 003 - 8 13 0With Boston trailing 6-5, Varitek started the top of the ninth with a solo home run off Al Reyes. Hinske, who had looked horrible all night, followed with a double. After Crisp popped to third, Lugo homered to left!! Then Ellsbury doubled and took third on a foul pop to first, but was stranded at third.
Devil Rays - 000 201 300 - 6 7 0
Drew continues to be ON FIRE with a double, a home run, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Varitek was on base all four times tonight: walk, 2 singles and home run. And Eric Gagne looked fantastic once again and he picked up the victory.

why would it be blacked out in toronto?
Glad to see Torre running Jeter out there again. His knee should be in dandy shape.
Because it's the Blue Jays. MLB wants me watching Rogers Cable.
so you watch gameday instead?
Yeah.
weird. maybe its just me, i rather wath the live game, even with the sound off if its that bad.
is that the reason?
rain delay.
No. The only way I (and anyone else in the area) can see the game at all is on TV (BuffyVision).
Radio is available at MLB, but I didn't buy that. So I got Gameday -- and I'll hope to see "in play, run(s) sc..." many times when Toronto is at bat.
The Red Sox can officially reach the postseason tonight -- if they win and the Tigers lose.
No. The only way I (and anyone else in the area) can see the game at all is on TV (BuffyVision).
uh...ok. so you dont have a TV? ;)
At work, I usually watch the game with no sound. It has often not been NESN on the weekends for some reason. I could probably deal with Buffy if it wasn't a Sox game.
i really hope dice-k has a quality start. not only the obvious reason of getting a win, but for him. that he does well, up to his own standards if you will i think its very important.
I'm at my job and I do not have a TV at my desk.
YES reporting that the JOBA RULES are going to be changing a bit...i guess he'll be able to pitch in back to back games.
With the MFY rain delay, I wish Mussina was pitching today. Not starting on time would guarantee a Moose Meltdown.
amen. moose is such a crybaby.
i love it when shit falls apart before his eyes and you know hes boiling inside, thinking his racist thoughts about his teammates in his beady-eyed little head.
Welp, you get your mlbtv blacked out, and the radio station I listen to the game on is doing University of New Hampshire football instead. They'll pick up the game when it's over.
Meh. I wanted to hear John Sterling cry. :(
Warming up in NY.
here we go
Jays begin the 2nd with a Thomas single and a Hill BB.
big hurt with the wheels
fuck...lob
Marcum walks Slappy and Shemp singles him to third. Come on Mrrcum!
Dumbo singles. 1-0.
HGH K for the first out. Still 1st and 3rd.
marcum doesnt have shit this inning.
got shemp in a rundown going home, but he EASILY couldve gotten the double play with dumbo running.
whew got out of the bases loaded jam!
NYY has first and second and 1 out, but Shemp flies to CF and Dumbo taps out 1-3.
1-0 MFY after 3.
Rios doubles to start the BJ 4th!
Thomas K, but Hill singles Rios to third. Let's go, Russ!
Adams pops to CI. 2 outs for Lind ...
good hitting! 1-1
LIND, down 1-2, works the count full and hits a ground rule double to left.
1-1, 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs for Thigpen.
It was funny reading through this Redsock/Nix33 exchange, knowing the answer is "Allan is at work, he doesn't have a TV at work"...
bloop! two runs in 3-1
Little .200 hitting Thiggy battles -- fffbbfff -- and singles to Shemp.
2 runs score. 3-1 JAYS!

ha, yeah i must have missed that he was AT work.
Yeah, pigpen in the clutch!
Hughes's ERA at 4.90 right now.
Get it over 5.00!
Just popped in to say:
3-1 Jays - yippee!!
I'll hand it to Canada. You whoop our ass in hockey and put up a good fight in baseball.
Tallet in to start the 4th.
Marcum out with an injured knee. Hmmm....
Thigpen must have bathed three times a day when he was a teenager... kids can be so mean...
Former Mutton Chop man, eh? Remember how Tallet had those? Dustin McGowan WISHES he had mutton chops like Tallet had.
Hey, everyone. Back from watching the movie, Knocked Up. I liked it. Don't know about you, but this isn't a movie discussion blog. Moving on...
My local Yankees radio affiliate was playing University of New Hampshire football and would cut to the game when the football was over. So, the rain delayed helped, and now I can listen to my new best friends, the Blue Jays, beat up on the MFY.
There's a guy from the New York Post filling in for Suzyn Waldman on the radio (Yom Kippur), he was doing a promo for Toyota, and took the first O out of it. Tyota.
Also watching the Mets/Marlins game on FOX. Old friend (snicker snicker), Byung Hyun Kim is pitching for Florida. Down 2-0.
Shemp triples in a run. Tor 3-2 after 5.
Hughes (5-7-3-1-3, 99) out, Villone in.
Heh. The Angels had their first rain delay at home since 1999 today.
Villone gets two outs and now Ohlendorf is in.
Not sure -- is this a Torre move or was Villone hurt?
Joe Kennedy in for Tor. Last night, Gameday had him in his old Diamondbacks hat. Today, it's a BJ hat.
Malphabet walks with one out and it's the top of the order.
Dud grounds out 1-3, 2 outs Minsd5kjbh7fg to second.
Frasor in to face Choco-Bunny.
choco-bunny?
The Jeterrific Calm-Eyed Choco-Bunny.
We went over this last night!
abreu? i thought he looked more like a deranged teddy bear.
ohhh. see, i missed that too. my bad.
sorry i must not have read EVERY comment
The Choco-Bunny reference at FJM.
errah.
home cooking. jeter gets credit for a hit. no errah.
sorry i must not have read EVERY comment
I posted it here on July 17. :>)
... Infield hit for CI. Make an out, Abreu.
the deranged teddy bear walks. slappy thinking grand dong. i'm thinking no.
dicks on the pond
well...
it wasn't a grand slam.
2 run double for slap-master flex.
half-dong for the albatross of the yankees' lineup.
i hate that motherfucker.
A-Rod really sucks at that whole hole-in-the-lineup thing
cunty bollocks
shemp cooks up some 2-run pron.
nice pitching, downs. fucking 'tard.
sterling: that's why i'm telling ya, you can't predict baseball!
*drink*
downs leaves with an injury.
sterling: that's why i'm telling ya, you can't predict baseball!
"it's not like the other sports!"
(yeah, john, we know. we heard you the first 10 years.)
ish - you have to guzzle when he sings a show tune.
woo hoo, chocolate rain warming.
Tor 7th v Veras:
Olmedo double
RJohnson walk
Stairs K
passedballa!
time for former mfy farmhand john-ford griffin to torment his old team.
x2!!!!
PASSEDBALLA!!!
sterling: don't ever try to predict baseball. it's un-preeeedict-able.
6-4 now. they better fricken lose.
PASSEDBALLA

HILL DOUBLE!

fucking sweet.
i love that hill dude. really.
choc rain coming in!
So wait... 6-5???
This is the ONE time Sterling didn't give the score of the game. (He sounds like a full-of-himself reporter when he does that)
Is Russ Adams related to Sam Adams?
I only want to see you scoring
Runs off Chocolate Rain ...
Chocolate Rain ... Chocolate Rain ...
6-5... second and third, two out.
russ adams batting
go go go go go go!!!! lands!
jays take the lead!!!!!!
RUSS ADAMS!
YEAH CHOCO RAIN !!!!!!!!
It's Raining runs!!!
choke-late rain!
What a wierd freaking game. Torre looks stunned.
added choc rain to the glossary. who came up with it, though?
irony: if the yankees folded last night in the ninth like they were supposed to, they'd have their best men up (visciano, chamberlain) to get to rivera. they're not available today because of working so much last night.
amusing.
PASSEDBALLA!!!!
(called a wild pitch, but i don't buy it)
me
another hit!
adams scores. 8-6!
me
i will make a note of it.
he can hit, but god, dumbo really sucks behind the plate.
So, did Sterling talk about the unpredictablity of the game after adams' double too?
bloops and errors and they add the run. I may have to change my opinion of the BJ's.
WOO HOO! MORE RUNS!
yankee fans start to boo.
my heart flutters.
joe torre shouldn't be so stunned looking. he of all people should know the likelyhood of this happening, unless he wasn't really at the game last night.
booing?
those classy fans? say it ain't so.
So, did Sterling talk about the unpredictablity of the game after adams' double too?
Nah, he's convinced himself that the yankees have now lost.
"well, they couldn't get to rivera today. what can ya do?"
he's really dejected. snicker.
holy cow. i've been working and just checked on the line score.
irony: if the yankees folded last night in the ninth like they were supposed to, they'd have their best men up (visciano, chamberlain) to get to rivera. they're not available today because of working so much last night.
I wouldn't call that ironic- I would call it fucking great!
if they come back, though, he'll change his tune and act like he never felt that way.
Tor: 000 300 5
NYY: 010 014
I wouldn't call that ironic- I would call it fucking great!
that too. but ironic since they had yankee stadium ROCKING until the 14th. wasted fantastic outings by rivera, chamberlain, and visciano.
AMAZING.
I'll bet some of the Sox are watching this!
stepping out until our game starts. picking my mother up from hosptial. happy days.
MFY 7th:
cano walks with one out and malphabet hits a GR double.
milk dud's single ties it up at 8-8.
Clutchy McNeverFails grounds out for the second out.
Wolfe in for Abreu.
wolfe walks abreu. 1st and 2nd and 2 outs for bluelips.
slappy singles to center, 9-8 MFY. 1st and 3rd for shemp.
third out from shemp.
end of 7: mfy 9-8.
farnsworth in. keep bangin', jays.
9-1-2-3 for tor
olmedo, johnson, stairs, rios.
olmedo safe on infield single fielded by farnsworthless.
johnson walks, but stairs lines out.
2 on for rios.
RIOS singles, tying run scores!!
9-9
Rodent PH for Griffin.
Who said there aren't any lovable Yankees? Kyle Farnsworth, I salute you.
and the boos come raining down. yeah boy
AND THE RODENT COMES THRU ----
single to right makes it 10-9 jays.
.... which i could hear 'em.
i guess i will in the playoffs -- assuming the mfy hold off the tigers.
britton's neck looks wider than his head.
torre bringing in his 8th pitcher.
8 pitchers last night and at least 8 today.
Wow, the pitchers part of GDGD looks like the lineups... 7 for the BJs, 8 for the MFY, and we're still counting
LUNA off No Dice!!!
Single makes it 11-9, but Zaun is out in a rundown 9-2-6-4-2.
Wolfe in the home 8th:
Dumbo opens with a single.
HOLD THE LINE!!!!!!!!
RS aren't you glad you aren't keeping score for this yankee game.
You probably would have ran out of ink in all of your pens.
You probably would have ran out of ink in all of your pens.
Gotta always carry back-ups!
Scoring that rout of the Marlins in 2003 -- 14-0 after the 1st inning -- was fun.
So, who's starting tomorrow? No TCM, right? And I guess it's not Igawa, so...
Mussina tomorrow -- with Billy penciled in for Monday. Pencil.
Jays throwing McGowan and then Burnett.
Then again, Mussina is also listed as Tuesday's pitcher.
Sunday & Tuesday -- that's gonna seriously fuck with his routine.
Haven't seen too many strikes in the 8th inning today, have we?
get that 3rd out, wolfe, and put a bagel on the board.
"Then again, Mussina is also listed as Tuesday's pitcher."
Yeah, that's why I was asking. I remembered Mussina on Tuesday.
what the fuck?!
fuck the dud.
... gameday is fucking up.
confusing play or is gameday frozen?
this sucks
melky took too big of a turn and was tagged out
i don't think they are gonna finish this one by the time we start.
gameday is back. 11-11 tie.
fruitbat in.
would give you play by play but since I quit watching on the YES network the Jays keep on taking the lead. Don't want to jinx the Jays.
Beat on the bat
Beat on the bat
Beat on the bat with a baseball bat
Oh yeah, oh yeah ...
i don't think they are gonna finish this one by the time we start.
I'm starting to think they might not finish by the time we end ... by my count, that's 4th blown save of the game.
gameday is enough for me, though i'll be turning mlbtv on a few minutes.
mo pitched 2 innings last night, right?
when did they start? if it goes only 9, are they near the 4:45 record?
Bat: 1 IP, 10 pitches.
shit
According to the comments here, they started at 2:35
401 pitches in their game last night.
man that was VERY CLOSE to being gone!
1 out double by thigpen off of the bat
so at about 4:30 now?
K for out #2.
maybe there is some mojo in johnson's corn husk of a goatee.
we want extras!
fuuuuuuuuuuuuck
geez! every time i check the nyy score it gets weirder and weirder!
whatever the outcome, it's nice to see their pitchers will be all tired out. thanks, jays!
josh towers in for the 9th: ci, abreu, slappy.
Josh Towers.
The Jays are apparently not trying to win this game. Though I say that with no recollection of whether Casey "Tek" Jansen or Jeremy Accardo should be available after last night.
Tina - "What's the wierdest thing you have ever been asked to autograph?"
Pedroia - "Somebody's baby"
LOL
Josh Towers... now there's a name that doesn't inspire any confidence in me.
Back. Had the game on in the car the whole time. I get out to the car to come home and I hear, "Toronto has taken the lead again, and Kei Igawa, of all people, is pitching."
And all the drama since.
And now, it's drama time.
NOT FUCKING FSN AGAIN.
JESUS FUCKING COCKKNOCKING CHRIST -- WHY CAN'T I GET FUCKING NESN AT WORK MORE THAN ONCE A GODDAMN MONTH?????????
WHY???????????????????
Seriously, why not?
CI (bcb) 4-3.
Abreu (cbcb) 1-3.
and now, a-rod.
this is the game right here, i think. one way or the other. you get a-rod, the jays shouldn't have a whole lot of problem squeezing one by in the 10th.
double for slappy
oh, ellsbury is leading off, btw!!
i almost posted "i feel like walking him and facing shemp"
2 and 1 to shemp
MATSUI F7
EXTRA INNINGS!
Is it bad if I'm relieved that Slappy 'only' hit a double there?
whew towers gets out of it!
psst you guys. our team is playing. :)
L-girl said...
psst you guys. our team is playing. :)
ha
too right
Daisuke - 1-3 vs the Rays this year, the only starter that the Rays have beaten more than once all year.
Those 4 starts Daisuke only gave up more than 2 runs once. Would be nice if the Sox scored some runs for the dude today.
TIZZLE DOUBIZZLE!
