Rockies - 010 000 000 - 1 6 0 Red Sox - 310 270 00x - 13 17 0Josh Beckett was the shit once again (7-6-1-1-9, 93). Dustin Pedroia hit a home run to start the first inning -- the first rookie in World Series history to do so -- and J.D. Drew added a two-run double to give Boston a quick 3-0 lead.
Beckett relied almost exclusively on his fastball for the first four innings -- 39 of his first 40 pitches were heat ranging from 95 to 97. He had excellent control. He set up Todd Helton with a 12/6 curve for strike two in the second inning before getting him swinging at a fastball and his 0-2 off-speed pitch to Matt Holliday in the fourth was tapped to third.
Nine consecutive Red Sox batters reached base with two outs in the fifth -- three doubles, two singles and four walks, including three straight bases-loaded walks -- that pushed the lead from 6-1 to 13-1.
So ... Boston's last four games: 7-1, 12-2, 11-2, 13-1. Four wins by a combined score of 43-6!

nothing like an early lead, eh?!
ON FIRE!!!!!
Take that Ordway and you WEEI losers!!!!
Geez I'm glad they held Tek. That would not have been pretty.
So what is that -- 5 hits in the first 7 at bats? Wow.
LUGO get r done!!!!!
i think byrnes and mcmoron could use some rest!
Dear sLugo,
Remember this, you have more RBI's this year than ON FIRE. Now is your time baby!!!
Thanx,
RSN

Amy, Toronto is no big deal, nice city, but not so special. Montreal is an amazing place, I think. Like being in Europe.
I plan to travel all over Canada - eventually.
Dear Doctor...
And by doctor, of course I meant Slugo. Duh.
Wow, nice play. Damn...
Man...nice play by the third baseman.
tough play, but 3-0, not a bad start!
Damn ... pretty good play (although not as amazing as TMcC would have you believe); would've been nice to get Tek home there. Still, great inning!
oh give me a fraggring break.
Still, I will take the 3-0 lead after the first.
First time this post season that the Rox have trailed by more than 1 run.
Montreal was wonderful. We had a great time there. Halifax reminded us of a little Boston. Nice seaport city. Nova Scotia was covered in fog when we were there, so it was hard to really see anything.
Toronto must look somewhat like NY since they seem to film so many "NY" movies in Toronto.
OK, back to the game. We have a 3-0 lead, Beckett struck out the side, and LBJ leads off the next inning. What could be better?
Toronto would like to be NY. But no.
Well, I thought toronto was nice, Montreal is a fun city, Calgary is always fun to visit during the Stampede but I loved Vancouver/victoria the best.
The rain is making me nervous.
Re Halifax reminding you of Boston, Atlantic/Eastern Canada is supposed to be very New England-like. Maine and New Brunswick are the same land mass. The accents sound a lot alike.
Let's get such a big lead we all start babbling off-topic. :)
Ish, there you are. I was wondering.
There is no end in sight for this rain.
I love the letter guys in the bleachers! BECKKKKETT
4 k's, any ideas on what the record is to start?
Thanks Tim I guess it is 5!
17 fastballs -- then a beautiful curve for a called strike 2 -- then heat for the K.
KKK K
roll on mr kick ass.
the webcast is so hellishly behind the tv broadcast.
looks like i gotta find some music to put on in the background cause i can't listen to dumb and dumberer..
(oh sweet. off the wall. whew)
Ish, there you are. I was wondering.
Well, I'm watching the game with my parents.
Jon Miller was truped. The cameras were truped. Therefore, I was truped.
Whew, thought it was a dong. A double, no biggie.
that damn delay, it's always the problem trying for tv w/ radio sound.
And here I was thinking, "the first ball hit into play is going to be a well-struck infield out." I'll shut up now. C'mon, Jobbers, just two more outs, here ...
WEEI is actually two seconds behind FOX. That's strange. Too bad I can just barely pick up the WEEI signal. All of the affiliates get ESPN Radio.
there goes the shut out
that damn delay, it's always the problem trying for tv w/ radio sound.
yup ;/
so i kinda wasted 5 bux lol. OH WELL ;)
uh-oh 3-1 (big deal?) ;p
Feast or famine tonight.
I am not liking the rain either. I bet this is affecting Beckett this inning. They wouldn't call a WS game for rain, would they?
Shit, I can't get the WTIC on the radio, but have gotten the jon miller / joe morgan cast. Joe Morgan, hmmm, not sure which is better morgan or mcCidiot.
The rain is making me nervous.
Agreed ... God must be trying to delay the game because Her team is behind ;-)
so i kinda wasted 5 bux lol.
without the lol, i might think you were canadian ;)
Seinfeld voice for sure
Oh yeah, it is Seinfeld
God must be trying to delay the game because Her team is behind ;-)
She is not a Sox fan???
A groundout? I'm disappointed... not
Is Beckett as sharp as it seems from the results? Can't watch right now...
Shit, I can't get the WTIC on the radio, but have gotten the jon miller / joe morgan cast. Joe Morgan, hmmm, not sure which is better morgan or mcCidiot.
I'm almost certain that the FM WEEI station in Springfield's got Uncle Joe and Village Idiot Glenn, s1c. What is it... 105.5?
As for this inning, there was that hanging curve, which is understandable this early in the game... but then Tulowitzki just guessed right on the fastball. With as many fastballs as Beckett was throwing, Tulowitzki was being aggressive, looking for a fastball.
Might be a good idea if Josh mixed in a few changeups here and there.
beckett very sharp. has thrown fastballs on 27 of 28 pitches, 5 k of the 6 outs. excellent command.
the first double was a poor pitch, but he is very strong.
i wonder if they might mix in the curve the next time thru.
The Springfield station is 105.5.
I am sure I am right about that one.
Rain seems to have let up.
without the lol, i might think you were canadian ;)
why's that?
WEEI in springfield is 105.5, however I am in a weird spot in the hartford area, so both of the WEEI are really, really static. At my house, if I went next door, I would get them fine. Usually that is no problem since WTIC is a hartford station.
Francis finding his groove?
why's that?
cheap
can anyone remember any world series rain delays?
of a game -- not a strict ppd?
i cannot.
sweaty walk
BB. Didn't they say this guy never walks anyone?
That's what I was asking about. I don't remember any, but my memory isn't too good for details.
Nope, I can't remember any delays.
Trivia note - last lead off home run in a world series. 1969 - Buford for the Orioles.
Damn, I thought Papi had something going there.
4-1!!!
yook = speed demon.
Records - already.
1st lead-off HR in a W-S game by a rookie.
1st time anyone has struck out the 1st 3 batters in a W-S game
PAPI!!!!!
Youk shows his wheels!!!
cheap
ohh, haha. show's how much i know about canadians ;)
yeah. 5 bux. if i smoked i'd light my cigarettes with them.
i'm just disappointed that it doesn't match up [and it should bloody just come in on the flaming radio!] lol, i'm all out of sorts.
but it's cool cause 4-1!!
Back now.
Finally did my pregame shot - Didn't want to do it during the meal :P
Went down pretty smooth, not bad. Not bad.
And re: Canada
I can't wait to head out west to Vancouver - popular thing to do is to fly into Calgary and drive through the Rockies into Van/Victoria, or vice versa. Whistler's also supposed to be great (think Aspen...ski/snowboard capital of canada).
I've always wanted to do a cross-country drive, or hell, even a train ride. Just the fact that its like 20 hours to get out of Ontario (westward) from where I am is pretty ridic. I've heard the prairies are also a pretty tedious drive. Just flatlands with mountains in the far, far, far distance.
As for the east coast, a couple years back I did a Maine-New Brunswick-PEI-Nova Scotia trip, then back on THE CAT from Nova Scotia to Bah Hahbah. Was a great time, I loved Halifax and Nova Scotia. Been to Montreal and Quebec as well, (YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK!) back when I was a little kid. It was pretty awesome as well, I've heard that Montreal is a "sister city" with Boston. I don't know, but yeah. That was part of a bigger trip up the coast of Lake Ontario...
Laura/Allan, you ever been to Gananoque/the Thousand Islands? I really enjoyed that as well.
From Wikipedia: 2003 Series: The game was interrupted in the seventh by a rain delay lasting 39 minutes. It was the first weather-related delay of a World Series game since game 3 of the 1993 World Series.
it seems almost impossible to believe no one has K'd the 1st 3 batters in a WS game til tonight. 102 previous WS, you'd think it would have been done before, you know?
14th batter to come to the plate for sox.
Like the US healthcare system, make em pay, Doctor.
2003 series, a lot of us missed that one
tim, lmfao
thanks amy.
i have to say, i sat out the 2003 series, at least the first 4 or so games. i saw beckett's cg, though.
it seems almost impossible to believe no one has K'd the 1st 3 batters in a WS game til tonight. 102 previous WS, you'd think it would have been done before, you know?
whoa i didn't know that. incredible.
becks xoxo
Oh, Game 3, by the way.
Yes, 2003 WS was one I definitely did NOT want to see.
of a World Series game since game 3 of the 1993 World Series.
I think I remember that one....was that the 15-14 game or something?
Actually Fox had as a record for consecutive K's being 5 done by a bunch of pitchers. Koufax was one of them. Am checking out baseball reference to see what I can find.
I swear Fox showed a graphic that said the record was first 5 batters K'd (done twice, and one was Sandy Koufax).
Did I misread it? Maybe it was consecutive K's in the WS or something.
Lots of Series games with rain delays. Too many for me to list.
you ever been to Gananoque
My gf and I did a last-minute, ostensibly romantic weekend in Gananoque and were not impressed. The 1,000 Islands were gorgeous, and the little cruise we took around them was beautiful, but the actual town of Gananoque seemed made for retirees, not young people. All we wanted to do was have a nice dinner and bring a bottle of wine back to our whirlpool suite, but nearly every restaurant had closed their kitchen (this was 9ish on a weekend night), and all the liquor stores were shuttered! Beautiful but best experienced on a pensioner's schedule, I guess ...
/OT: Go Sox! Ha ha ...
Like the US healthcare system, make em pay, Doctor.
one of the funniest jos comments of all time.
consecutive K versus consecutive K to start a game, maybe?
I think I remember that one....was that the 15-14 game or something?
I'll answer myself - Nope. That was game 4, where in Philly, the Jays pitcher, Todd Stottlemyer, decided to belly flop into third base after he got on base and someone else got a hit, and cut his chin all up.
Low strike zone tonight. Though, that third ball was a above the belt. First two were closer.
Through two, Francis has 58 pitches, 34 for stikes. Beckett 28-20.
The 1,000 Islands were gorgeous, and the little cruise we took around them was beautiful, but the actual town of Gananoque seemed made for retirees, not young people.
Yeah, the main thing I remember about that trip was the cruise around the islands. The city wasn't anything special, but I did enjoy the cruise.
nice catch, being!
Typical MBM grab ... phhew!
Two comments from my wife:
1. Has this guy been pitching for them all season? He looks like the Grinch.
2. Varitek. Is that the guy that hits his shoes when he bats?
and by typical you mean great, i assume?!
one of the funniest jos comments of all time.
Heh, glad I could make the list.
Ok, More runs please!
We spent a day in Vancouver when we did the Alaka cruise thing last year. Absolutely beautiful place. Almost too pretty, if that were possible - like Disneyworld or something
excuse me - MBM!!
Great inning after starting out with balls!
That's great, David! At least she knows who Tek is!
Baseball Musings shows the record of K's to start the game also at 5.
Dear Captain,
Your Moment baby, Your moment!
Thanx,

Tek's shtick is not nearly as nutsy as what Nomar used to do. That used to make me crazy.
and by typical you mean great, i assume?!
Of course! Great, but nervewracking!
1963 vs the MFY game 1 - Koufax struck out the first 5 batters.
Kubek, Richardson, Tresh (looking), Mantle (looking) and Maris.
Tim, I finally found your comment re Canada and Ganonoque :)
I want to do the cross-country thing here too - but probably in two parts, from here west, then from here east.
Ontario is just too fucking big! It's insane.
We haven't been to Ganonoque or however it is spelled.
Montreal is nothing like Boston. It is more like Paris than anything in the US.
jub jub
Nice bunt, Lugo!
LOVE that that play (allowing a bunted hit, missing the bare-hand) interrupted JB&TM jerking off the Rox' defense.
Dear LBJ,
Ok, the nerves are out of your system. It is time for some excitement baby. Besides we want to say LAURA's Boy!!!
Thanx,
RSN
Joy Nation
jub jub - Funny, I saw that Conan too. Thought he was supposed to say it in the ALCS though.
That's great, David! At least she knows who Tek is!
lol...my girlfriend knows (her words):
-"Bubba" (Ortiz)
-"Wormy" (Manny)- his hair looks like worms (this is when it was blondish)
-"The Indian guy" (LBJ) - thinks he's smokin'!
-"That guy that looks like he's a dad" (Dr. Doubles)
-"That pitcher thats so fat" (G38)
-"The guy everyone likes" (Yook) - was impressed with the Yooking at fenway
-"Redneck" - Timlin
-"Scary man" - Snuffer
and of course
"DICE-K!!!!!" (she had to put up with me rantin' and ravin' about it ever since they won the rights to negotiate)
Re LBJ, I keep thinking, can you imagine being a rookie call up and starting in the WS? Damn.
I agree that Montreal is not like Boston. Montreal has much more of a big city, cosmopolitan feel. Boston still feels like a town where everyone knows everyone, even though that's far from true. Boston has lots of water and feels like a port; Old Montreal feels Parisian; new Montreal feels more like a little NY.
We need a side-by-side comparison of the Helton/Youk facial hair.
Beckett 38:26
Francis 71:44
Through three.
Chief, I always say that!
i'm LOVING the way this game is going.
curius to see beckett in some 3 ball counts, i guess im getting spoiled. he still looks....dominating!
Awake
Good work, Tim. But have you gotten her to enjoy the game??
It's pouring out now.
the lord has joined us! cheers!
Wow, was looking at the 63 series. The Dodgers used four pitchers in the entire series. 2 CG's by Koufax (MVP), 1 CG by Drysdale, 8 1/3 IP by Podres and 2/3 IP by Perranoski. Wow, four pitchers in the entire series.
Doctor flashing the glove!!
Morning, Lord. Or night, I guess.
Good work, Tim. But have you gotten her to enjoy the game??
Lets just say I've gotten her to tolerate the game :P
Liking will come with age, and booze. lol...
Although I'm fairly cynical about gimmicks in baseball broadcasting, I do like the mic'd umps - it's cool to hear what they talk about to the grounds crew, pitcher, etc.
i love tim's g/f's lineup
the lord has joined us! cheers!
Ehhhhh! lord lynch
4 pitchers, that is so crazy
Believe it or not, I have vague memories of the 63 Series. I guess it was the Sandy Koufax thing, being Jewish and all. I didn't understand the game at all back then (I was a kid), but I remember all the excitement.
I say awake, I'm not sure yet.
Maybe I should open that bottle now?
Well, you know women take longer sometimes to warm up to things...:)
There's the hook! 2 out.
DOMINANT
didn't the white sox have 4 cgs in the 2005 postseason? the alcs?
Night Night Hawpe
KKKKKKK!!!!!!!
Beckett just sooo cool. Just strolls off the field.
beckett is fucking dealing. damn!!!
Sit your ass down, because I am DOMINANT!!!!
Fuck yeah time!!!
KKKKKKK
Beckett = dealin!
we don't wanna be sedated!
2005 ALCS with White Sox - almost the same as the 63 Dodgers.
CWS had 5 games and 5 pitchers and one of them threw .2 IP.
Games 2-3-4-5 were all CG.
didn't the white sox have 4 cgs in the 2005 postseason? the alcs?
Yes they did, but that was a 5 game series and they used 5 pitchers.
If this keeps up, this might be Beckett's most dominant performance ever. We'll see. Hard to beat ALDS Game 1, not to mention ALCS Game 5.
still very impressive, and unusual
Buck just used the word "Nimble" - Drink?
if you really want to get loaded, drink on mcc's "remarkable"
Wow, I am so lucky, BH surprises me with a hard lemonade without me asking.
PAPI!!!!!!
I am awake but not into this yet.
Who has done what? I see the pocket rocket got a HR.
Hurrah! We have Rick Sutcliffe commentating.
Hit Tiz.
another papi hit! we are cruising
Still no 1-2-3 inning for Francis :)
If this keeps up, this might be Beckett's most dominant performance ever. We'll see. Hard to beat ALDS Game 1, not to mention ALCS Game 5.
How about game 6 of '03. 5 hit shutout.
Dear Manny
Papi's knee hurts - 37' 3" would make it easier on him
RSN
(Sorry, not wanting to steal anyone's gig, but couldn't resist)
lord, drew had a two-run double in the 1st!
Sosock, Feel free to steal my gig any time!!!
Come on, MANNY!!!
man, manny is such a beautiful hitter.
hustle double.
Fuckin idiots discounting 'Tizzle's D again. That was a limp around 2B? You fucking retards.
"Ortiz limping around second base"---WTF? I didn't see any limping.
"Let's just further the point..."
aka
"Let's just make ourselves look like bigger fucking retards"
Loaded for Tek. Two out. Just how many times can he face this situation? It seems to happen way too often, give the odds. (And yes, I realize Lowell was put on intentionally.)
allan was just reading some comments to me, i'm on a break from modding.
"fucking retards..."
"tim?"
"yup."
it's a signature :)
fox:
we think he's limping
we think he should be limping
therefore he is limping
screw what is actually happening. that is not important.
Tekdong?
Crap, the captain is up with bases loaded. Oh crap, the only one with a worse average is ON FIRE
Dear Captain,
Time to make the numbers lie. Your time baby!!
Thanx,

I had faith in you captain. Honest I did.
TEK!! Finally came through on a bases loaded, two out scenario!
CAPTAIN!!!!!
This is fucking amazing.
Dear RSN and Joy Nation,
:) mission accomplished!!
You are welcome,
Captain my Captain
Rip this joint, JD POWER!
ball hit near the line and curved into the seats. no fan's fault.
I always have faith in him, Lord. Even though he hasn't been exactly impressive at bat this year.
i love rallies that start with 0 on and 2 outs.
Through 4:
Beckett 51:37, 7K
Francis 103:62, 3k
tek making 'em pay
yeah I deleted the "asshat fan" comment, on replay the ball simply bounced into the seats. I made the mistake of listening to the Fox announcers who said that a fan touched the ball.
Never mind.
Hi everyone, I'm back! Great game, can't wait to catch up on the comments.
6-1 ain't bad. I love how we keep getting baserunners on to squander. (Better than the real alternative.)
beckkkkkkkett
torrealba's father was named tivroy.
David, love the comments from your wife. How about this one from mine?
"Are the Sox playing the Packers?"
Me: What?
Her: You know, the Green Bay Packers.
Me: They aren't even a baseball team!
Her: But you're impressed I know the Packers are from Green Bay, aren't you?
DOMINANT is dominating as in kicking ass and taking names type of DOMINANT.
Welcome back, Westcoastsox. I wish I was out there because then it would only be 7:18 in the 5th inning. These games are tough for a working person.
8 Ks for Beckkkkkkkkett!
BECKKKKKKKKETT
filthy Josh.
packers :)
Update: K/BB ratio for Beckett- 33:1
Hmmm... superlatives, anyone?
Êž
i think yorvit nearly dislocated a knee on that curve/K.
BECKKKKKKKKET !!
DOMINANT.
Fox: GIve me another word. I keep coming back to DOMINANT.
phrenile, what's your question?
Hey guys, I've been a reader for years, but this is my first comment. 8 k's...hot damn
ump: "no josh you gotta throw 5 strikes."
West coast advantage: games are over in time not to be so bleary-eyed to work.
West coast disadvantage: getting stuck in traffic jam on way home and missing Fuck Yeah's leadoff HR.
Another disadvantage: if I were on the East Coast, my two screaming children would be in bed by now!
Phrenile, how the hell did you make an upside down k?
Hmmm, I guess that june game where the Rox socked Josh, really had a lot of importance for this game.
One more out her Josh and you will be elgible for the win! (smirk)
we didn't see an upside down K!
welcome, qc :)
Funny, I don't see an upside-down K - I just see a box. Evidently, L-Girl sees a question mark.
that walk was total bullshit. walked him on a 1-4 count.
all we got from phrenile was
?
so i thought he had a question!
Another disadvantage: if I were on the East Coast, my two screaming children would be in bed by now!
Hmm, maybe not...what if they were Red Sox fans?
Or Packer fans....
casual matsui?
Interesting?? hahaha
all we got from phrenile was
?
so i thought he had a question!
I got the upside-down K as well.
I saw the upside down k also.
Yank him! Yank him!
That's his SECOND damn walk already!
Oh..... of the postseason.....
:)
My 4-year-old daughter actually has become quite a Red Sox fan. She also has learned to boo every time someone says "Yankees," to the chagrin of my wife, who thinks I'm teaching bad manners. Ha!

Ok, commercial break. Did any of you see the Joe Buck interview on Conan?
