Gordon Edes has a
statement from pitching coach John Farrell:
While I do have aspirations to manage in the major leagues in the future, my commitment to John, Tom, Larry, Theo, Tito, and the Red Sox, needs to be greater than one year for their faith in hiring me as their pitching coach. Therefore I have declined the opportunity to interview for the position of Pittsburgh Pirates manager. I look forward to contributing to and competing for another World Series title here in Boston.
I have been continually impressed with Farrell this season. This is excellent news.
keep it up dude.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! It also backs up my theory that they are grooming Tek for the position when his contract is up.
ReplyDeleteGood news, I am sure the pitchers are very, very happy!
ReplyDeleteBTW - The big lug has published the letter that the organization sent him prior to the Turkey day meeting. A good read.

That is the first I ever heard of that?
has a catcher ever been a pitching coach?????
when his contract is up , i think he will still be able to play..
Sweet. Farrell is a class act.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the letter Curt put on his website, Theo and Larry , wrote Thanksgiving 2003,
ReplyDeleteCurt wants to come back here so bad........
If I gave myself one more year in baseball before I retire, I'd want to return to the team I won two World Series on, also. Plus, the Red Sox are going to have a very exciting team next year.
ReplyDeleteThe way I read the Farrell statement is this: "Pittsburgh? You have got to be f-ing kidding me!!!"
ReplyDeleteJust saw that the Sox picked up the options on Wakefield and Tavarez. Any surprise there? I wasn't sure Wake would pitch again at all, but glad to see he is presumably ok.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news! I hope Lowell stays and maybe even Schilling.
ReplyDeleteThere's certainly some surprise as far as Julian's concerned, at least on my part. But perhaps it's because he's flexible, not only on our potential staff, but also on the trade market. He's proven he can be a league-average starter; that will be attractive to someone.
ReplyDeleteYay, Farrell! What a year he had, huh?
ReplyDeleteThat makes me so happy. I haven't heard anything but good about this guy since he came. Shill said he was the best pitching coach. I remember an article about Oki, how Farell taught him a new pitch that helped him be successful this year.
ReplyDeleteI figured they would pick up Wake, the guy rocks. People put doubt into my mind about Taverez, whom I figured was a no brainer too. I'm psyched the Sox are brining him back. I bet he could do will in the bullpen all year.
Farrell this year, and Magaden, reminded me of the staff that Bill Belichick had around him when the Patriots first caught fire. And I mean that as the highest praise.
