"Don't make any mistake about it, our teams in the late '90s beat everybody, and we beat everybody because we were that much better than everybody. And they had just as many players doing stuff -- all the teams. I guarantee you, go through every team in baseball and they all have the same basic percentage of players doing stuff. They just weren't as good as us. You think the Red Sox didn't have players doing stuff back then? Give me a break. They just weren't as good as us, and neither was anybody else."So Hank admits that a certain number of Yankees were doing "stuff", but so were players on the other teams -- but Mom, everyone was doing it, even Boston!1!!11 -- so the playing field was level, and the Yankees were better.

Hank Steinbrenner Admits Yankees Steroid Use
Daily News:
It really is amazing. For a long time it looked like after Big Stein went to hell, ownership would go to his son-in-law, and, while technically that would've meant the team "stayed in the family," it still wasn't gonna be owned by a Steinbrenner. And that could have left to more indifference from our side than pure hatred.
ReplyDeleteInstead, after the son-in-law effs up, we get the sons of George, "George Double-screw" (like George W, cuz it's the sons of the evil man, only there are 2, huh? huh? Just testing possible new material, sorry). And Hank turns out to be somehow more detestable than daddy. And as a bonus, he seems to have those traits that his dad had that can really cause chaos within an organization. In other words, this next half-century or so is gonna be fun...
Mr. Hankee, on being the voice of the Yankees regarding possible trades and signings:
ReplyDelete"I don't particularly necessarily enjoy it. It was kind of thrust upon me. At some point, if you're going to be a leader, you've got to step up and you can't hide in the office."
That's gold!
More detestable than SiaS? No way. First of all, it's way too early. We gotta wait at least 5 seasons.
But he does seem way dumber and will be highly entertaining -- "if we miss the playoffs by the end of this year, I don't know how patient I'll be" --- when the Chokers underachieve.
George must be rolling over in his grave... wait... what!? He's not dead yet!?
ReplyDeleteThen why did he let this idiot take over!?
:)
When George built these sons in his basement, he must have got the formula wrong ... "Let's see is that 1 cup of ignorance and two cups of arrogance?"
ReplyDeleteThe arrogance here is stinky, for sure...but I'm not sure he says anything that's untrue in the quote there.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure he says anything that's untrue in the quote there
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's likely very accurate. Still, not every GM is going to come right out and say it.
"but I'm not sure he says anything that's untrue in the quote there."
ReplyDeleteEither way, it's a wonderful world when instead of the Yankees (right from the top) saying "we're classy and we never do anything wrong," they're saying, "sure, we won by cheating, but we feel we would've won anyway."
