Joy of Sox Finishes 2nd In CBAs

The results for Best Sports Blog in the 2007 Canadian Blog Awards were announced tonight -- and The Joy of Sox finished 2nd.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for me.

For 2008, I promise timely Red Sox news, well-moderated game threads, anti-media rants, odd nicknames, stats that prove I am always right, and plenty of Yankees schadenfreude.

  1. Congratulations on coming in 2d, and I agree with Tim---that color scheme is awful on that other blog.

Have the results for Best Progressive Blog come out yet?

  2. Thanks.

Best Progressive was moved to tomorrow night, so it's coming out the same night as Best Conservative [sic].

  3. It's amazing that a Red Sox blog written by a transplanted New Yorker can finish second in Canada and actually win last year.......Only in Canada

Nice job , maybe next year they will go back to the old voting and we can stuff the ballot box again.......

Do they have American blog awards?

I was thinking just that myself.

Are you as skeptical about the reliability of these elections as you are of American elections?

    Actually, I trust these more.

They made it harder to scam extra votes this time -- plus they allowed only 1 vote per round rather than 1 per day.

But these are not "official" -- whatever that means. Anyone can decide to set up an Awards site, like the Koufax awards in the US or whatever.

Now, if I had repeated as winner, yes, of course, it would have been a mandate from the entire Canadian populace.

  6. Congrats on finishing 2nd in a wide field of bloggers, ditto to what 9casey said as well...

I read a bit of of the winner's blog - I stand by what I said about the color scheme (in the other CBA post on here from 2 days ago) however it's cool that he's a 'normal' blogger (not sponsored by newspaper) and the content is pretty damn good as well...A valiant challenger, and deserving winner - we'll get 'em next year!

  7. The fix is in. This is horseshit.

  8. Congrats RS
I checked out the winner, though, and think the whole thing must have been rigged. Was Katherine Harris involved here?
    Good Luck, Laura!

As far as I can tell, there is no mechanism to challenge the results. :>)

In fact, I don't even know the results. "They" "say" the other guy "won" -- and everyone accepts it. Plus it was done electronically. Hmmmm, it is a lot like the US!

I did find out that a total of 919 votes were cast in Round 1 and I finished first -- with 253 (28%).

Very curious to see how L does tonight. I'm sure she got plenty of votes, but a couple of her opponents are very established blogs.

  13. Nice job on coming in second! Looking forward to reading more as spring training arrives.

  15. "he's a 'normal' blogger (not sponsored by newspaper)"

Am I missing something? It seems to me the guy is an actual announcer for a team, and a host on a "real' radio show. (And a car salesman---come on.) I'm not saying announcers shouldn't have blogs, but I think a "normal blogger" would be just a fan as opposed to a person connected with a team and who's in the "real" media anyway.

JoS: #1 non-media Canadian sports blog. (And number 1 overall after this clearly tainted election is appealed and overturned. This guy probably told 20 million Saskatchewan Rough Riders fans to vote for him on the air. 55 yard line my ass.)

Looks like the Dinosty blog -- which finished #5 -- is a regular fan.

The #4 finisher has Ottawa Citizen in his fooking URL. ... #4 -- guess no one reads that paper!

  18. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Won the red sox ticket purchase opportunity draw - I can buy tickets for Opening Day or Yankees Game...

Can't do opening day, working at a CA firm and thats in the heat of tax season, as much as I would love to.

Right now I'm leaning towards the last Yankee series of the year - Sept 26-28, probably the Saturday game. AND THEY'RE SEATS THIS TIME!!!!! no more of this standing BS!

    wooooo!

  19. Tim, congrats--I just had a similar Woo!, etc, at my house. Opening Day for me! I never had specific interest in going to OD--except in 2005 and 2008! (Have 2 Yanks games anyway, so it was an easy call to choose OD over Yanks game.)

  20. Man, tough competition huh? Here's to you being #1 next year!

  21. Nice, jere!

Yeah, I would definately do OD if I could (i.e. was in school or not an accountant in april...lol) just because of the WS win....i think it was you who said it just after they clinched in October, something about "Make sure you go to Fenway during 2008 to hear them announce Your World Champion Boston Red Sox!"

Well, I'll definitely be there this year! Can't ever complain about a late Sept MFY game and hopefully the girlfriend/dad ('s email address) will nab one of the other contests (green monster hopefully)...

I'll be with ya in the virtual waiting room Saturday, buddy - hopefully it's nice to us!

Tim--from my past experience winning Red Sox lotteries, you should be guaranteed to get something. I don't even think there's a VWR, I think you just log in and choose your game/seats. Because all the tickets for these games (besides season tickets of course) go to the lottery winners. Not like there's another day with a general on-sale for them. But still, get in early!

    ReplyDelete
  23. You've got a great blog here. I always come here first for the best news on our beloved Red Sox. Congrats on coming in 2nd!

    ReplyDelete
  24. All I know is my experience with the RF roof deck tickets last year is that I was in that stupid waiting room for an hour or so, before I could buy tickets.

Then when I finally got in, most of the tables were gone except for the less-popular ones (i.e. mid week vs. Orioles) which I couldn't make. So I just said to hell with it and got the Yankee tickets.

Hopefully there won't be a VWR this year, and I'll be able to snag me some infield seats for one of the Yankee games at the end of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh, and also...not all of the tickets are for the lottery winners....they of course probably have some for game-day sales, and in the official press release for the ticket purchase lottery it says:

For fans who do not have internet access, or those not selected in the random online drawings, tickets will be sold by telephone at (877) RED-SOX9 for each of the three categories according to the following schedule:
OPENING DAY AND YANKEE GAMES (While Supplies Last):
Beginning at 2:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, February 9

First of all, I think it's kind of funny that they're giving advice over the internet to people who don't have the internet...

Take "While supplies last" as you may...maybe that means if it sells out online by 2 then the telephone tickets are gone...I don't know.

All I know is that I hate that VWR and everything about it. There's absolutely no reason to use it for these drawings besides not having the server crash for having too many people trying to buy all at once. I'll definitely be online at about quarter to 12 F5'ing the page and hoping for the best...

  26. 1st, then 2nd - that's quite a testimony. I have to say the past few posts have been solid! The baseball links (Koufax radio call, RS ALCS game) were awesome! Also, wanted to say thanks for the links to Howlin Wolf! I hope there are more of those type of links in the future as well. Nice work!

  27. "not all of the tickets are for the lottery winners."

Right, there are the season ticket holders, and some OD tix went out with the Sox Pax, too, but for the most part, the lottery winners are the ones getting the tix, since there's no other "normal" way to get them.

You might be right, there may be VWR action. But you will get something. It shouldn't get too busy since there is a finite number of people allowed to log in, instead of free-for-all.
