There are only three weeks remaining until Opening Day, so it's time for the W-L contest! Correctly guess the Red Sox's regular season record and win exciting prizes*.
Leave a comment or (if you prefer your entry to be secret) send me an email with your guess. In case of a possible tie, also include your estimate of Manny Ramirez's OPS for 2008 (OPS: on-base percentage plus slugging percentage; career stats for reference).
I will accept entries until Monday, March 24 at 5 PM -- and post the list later that evening.
Also: Check out Jere's contest for Manny's 500th career home run.
* - I'm still putting the prize package together. At the moment, I've got NESN's 2004 "Faith Rewarded" DVD (does anyone not have that?) and Jose Canseco's upcoming book "Vindicated" -- and maybe some more stuff.

ReplyDeletewe may need a tiebreaker for the tiebreaker!
we may need a tiebreaker for the tiebreaker!
ReplyDeleteI already suggested using Matsusaka's or Beckett's OPS in yesterday's thread. Or would that be inconsistent with never letting interleague play actually decide anything?

I could have sworn I did 102 last year, too. No?
ReplyDeleteWe might have trouble making the playoffs with some of these predictions.......
ReplyDeleteI know! Stinkers. ;)
99-63 for the W-L, Manny bounces way back up to 1.002.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if we can somehow work this inspiration into the tiebreaker (or prize?).
ReplyDelete/typical tim thought
Tim, I think I saw at SoSH that he's been arrested for this before.
ReplyDeleteIf we have a length of jail sentence contest, it'll be for You Know Who!
"(I like round numbers, easier for me to remember.)"
ReplyDeleteAmy, I like round numbers with stalks. See my guess....
Redsock: Let's say there's a rainout that doesn't get made up and the final record is 101-60. The person who said 102 -60 would be closer to the winning percentage than the 101-61 person, but the 101-61 person would have nailed the number of wins. Who would win? Is it closer percentage or exact win total?
If the Red Sox are 91-0 and a strike or major catastrophe ends the season, does conrey win it with his lowball guess of 91? I think Jack would be pissed if that were the case. He'd feel like the '94 Expos.
Gotta go with strict # of wins.
ReplyDeleteOh man, gareth with the same w-l as me and .003 off on the OPS.
ReplyDeleteIf the Red Sox are 91-0 and a strike or major catastrophe ends the season, does conrey win it with his lowball guess of 91?
ReplyDeleteYes.
Jere, even numbers with stalks? Oh, you mean like a 9 is a zero with a stalk? Or am I just missing something?
ReplyDelete(definitely need to get my head ready for game threads!)
I just think the Rays 'n Jays are going to make the division tough (I guessed 94). Don't think it's going to keep us out of the playoffs, though. Yankees...who knows?
ReplyDeletelewd and lascivious behavior on persons under 16

Jail sentence? Well, if that's the tie breaker then there's definitely only one choice there! And it's not some measly perv scout! It's some measly perv cy young winner!
And if we're discussing logic (or lack thereof) behind our predictions...for my OPS guess...I'll let the HTML do the talking. My guess was 1.024. KISS'd that one.
