Rob Bradford 3:15 PM:
Just minutes ago, while taking ground balls at third base, Alex Cora pulled up lame after making a throw over to first. After bending over in obvious pain, and then consulting with pitching coach John Farrell and first base coach Luis Alicea, Cora attempted one more throw over to first. After coming up well short of first [with] the toss, Cora immediately went into the clubhouse to get his arm checked. ...Bradford, 4:26 PM:
Cora is currently icing his right elbow after feeling a twinge while making throws from third base earlier today. The infielder is scheduled to be evaluated by Dr. Thomas Gill at 5 p.m. Mike Lowell is currently at Mass General having an MRI done on his right thumb. Best case scenario according to Terry Francona is Lowell misses two or three days. It is expected that either Joe Thurston, Jed Lowrie, or Keith Ginter will be headed to Boston shortly.Amalie Benjamin, 4:44 PM:
The phones are ringing in Pawtucket. ... according to Terry Francona, the call has gone out to the PawSox to make sure a player is ready in case they need him. ... The likely candidates for promotion from Pawtucket are Keith Ginter, Joe Thurston, and Jed Lowrie. Obviously the first two are veterans, with Lowrie still a rookie, so it depends on how the team wants to go, if a move is, in fact, necessary.
