  2. On Friday, Baseball Prospectus listed the top five teams with the best odds of making the playoffs:

    Diamondbacks (83.9%)
    Cubs (74.5%)
    Red Sox (67.7%)
    A's (66.6%)
    Devil Rays (50.8 %)

    ReplyDelete
  3. The Devil Rays in the playoffs and the Yankees at home! Wouldn't that be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  4. My only problem with listening to MLB audio at work: not knowing when the commercials end. I can't keep the headphones on during commercials. It's too awful. Don't wait enough time, ads screaming in my ears. Wait too long, miss pitches.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Only if they get the WC.

    Uh, yeah. Obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Maybe keep Gameday open. When that puts up the first pitch, check in. Radio should be behind GDGD anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Supposed national TBS game but mlbtv has NESN!

    ReplyDelete
  8. L6!!!

One of the Brewers coaches has a triangle of hair under his mouth. Looks like Flexo from Futurama.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Call off the fatwa: Lugo makes a good play.

I'm working as I listen. Working, listening and threading is enough!

    ReplyDelete
  11. A quick game today could put 3 complete games in a 24-hour period.

    ReplyDelete
  12. As the radio guys are having an orgasm over Lloyd Braun, he dongs.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Don said Braun had the highest slugging percentage of any rookie in baseball history last year. Is that true? I must have missed that tidbit.

    ReplyDelete
  14. They've been giving a slew of stats like that. He's reached various milestones the fastest. I haven't been taking them in (work).

    ReplyDelete
  15. His .634 rookie slugging beat McGwire's .618 record.

  16. My grandmother has been here visiting from the barren north of Aroostook County, Maine, so she's been sleeping in my bed, which keeps me out of late night game threadding. But I don't mind. That's why I read up the next day.

And so, without further a due... here are some Bullets! From the Morning After.

    - I fell asleep on the couch when Milwaukee was leading 6-5. I woke up at 4:30 this morning, realized this, got pissed for a couple of moments, and then checked the score. That added some happiness. I was still pissed I didn't see it, though.

    - I wondered the same thing when NESN didn't have a pregame show. Wtf mate? Then boof. There's Don and his shiny head.

    - I like Dale Arnold, but I like Brother Dave better. Different strengths, etc.

    - Nope. Not Ish. I heard them talking about a kid who does impressions of them who was coming to Fenway. I didn't catch that Joe met the kid at Cabella's. Lots of people from Maine at Cabella's because it's in Maine.

    - Bush: ------------------------>

    - I enjoyed the ovation for Kapler very much.

    - Speaking of interesting names, there is an Indy Car driver named Will Power. I get confused every time they mention him.

    - Let the dongs outside!

    - I have a Dennis Lamp trading card.

    - I think if you choose to type "201" and you're not 201, you should be ridiculed. Or docked one "201" point. Assuming someone's keeping score. Someone should win a prize at the end of the season. But still it's got to be somewhat coincedental. But if you say 201 and you hit 201... how lucky of you.

    - I don't like the Honeydew donuts commercial. "I can't get my day started without a (fricken) large coffee, and a BIGGGGG bacon, egg and cheese sandwhich." Barf.

    - Feels nice to impeach one Bush...

    - Makes sense to me to have white uniforms for one game and red uniforms for the night. NESN was having some problems with the red, though. Looked like they were on fire.

    - When I checked the score on ESPN at 4:30 this morning, I saw "S: Timlin (1)". I was astonished. And glad I was asleep for that.

    - I can give the temperature in C when I've got an F temperature to work with. Like, 64° F is 18° C. But if you randomly asked me what 18° C is in F, I'd look at you cross-eyed.

    - I've been thinking about how much I want Gloria Estefan to play and be DONE with that commercial since Spring Training. I'm not sure why I haven't lamented about it yet. Ooooooh Ooh la la la la la la la.

    - I think Gagne would either get a huge ovation or a chorus of boos. Let's find out today!

    - I start saying "oot" when I've watched too much hockey.

    - There should be an all-Massachusetts-town-name team. Mike Lowell would be the MVP. I'm sure we could field a couple of teams from that. Manager would be Bob Tewksbury.

    - I had a similar problem that Redsock had last night when his eyes were a bit blurry. The dong is just loving having these kittens.

    - I wonder if anyone on the Titantic who saw the ice bergs thought they were pretty.

    - The water is dirty TWICE! Let's make it THRICE today!

    - Today's game is on NESN and TBS. So, if you're outside of New England and can't get NESN, you'll still be able to watch!

    - 372 comments without me. Impressive!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Making my way through Ish's bullets...

Lots of people from Maine at Cabella's because it's in Maine.

Well I know that! I couldn't remember your name and honestly thought that was it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Brother" Dave + "Uncle" Joe = BARF

    Not the people. The nicknames.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dennis Lamp! Goes in the all-house team with Stairs, Bannister, Wall, House...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Brother" Dave + "Uncle" Joe = BARF

    Not the people. The nicknames.

    That spells BDUJ, not BARF.

    ...

    What about TV?

"Guy Down The Street Who I Often See Watering His Lawn" Don?

    ReplyDelete
  22. JB dealing.

Ococ back to the garage door for that one!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That spells BDUJ, not BARF.

Now don't go acting like you like that...

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm just giving you a hard time, L. re Cabella's.

"Guy Down The Street Who I Often See Watering His Lawn" Don?

Don "I've effectively ended my relationship with Bill Titus" Orsillo.

Those of you with the NESN feed will know what I mean.

And Heidi Watney looks very good with those big sunglasses.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm just giving you a hard time, L. re Cabella's.

  29. Hi all, or you three I should say.
Just got in fromm LL complex. Man, a 15-16 hr. Saturday, then back for 3-4 more this morning. At least I didn't have to get started till 10. Only 1 softball game today, so 1 field to prep and empty all the garbage from yesterday's big "Sponsor Appreciation Day"
Now, since I've neglected my husbandly duties all weekend, I'm out to the garden to do some planting for Cathy.
Hope to be done in time to catch the last few innings.
Nice Bullets Ish, or maybe I should say Nice Bullets Heidi :>

    ReplyDelete
  31. When the bases are empty, seeing

    "In play, run(s)"

    is nice.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Glad I walked in and watched a couple more at-bats before I hit the garden!
    Peds with the Power!

Hey, nothing wrong with being happy. That's not my issue.

All brains and reasonable judgement out of the window...

Anyone is suddenly wildly attractive, even when she's not...

Stuff like that is sad but true. :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. BIG PAPI LETS OUT SOME MORE DONGS!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hot dong on dong action... little dong and big dong...!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow - BTB. Love it!
    Ok, gotta get outside.
    Conversations from Clemmons, NC
    (an ongoing series)
    Me - (loudly) Hot DAMN!
Cathy - (from the bedroom) I thought you were outside planting my snap dragons.
Me - But there are double dongs on TV!
Cathy - ? (with that look, even tho I can't see it)
Me - Never mind. (as I head outside)

  37. Boo.

That was our 3rd B2B this year btw.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Who was what about a bad defensive team...? Brewers are none to slick, at least in these games.

    ReplyDelete
  39. sox coming right back

    E3 and 1B

    don't eff it up, capt.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow, got in just in time for some excitement. Bases loaded, no one out!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, there were no outs but blogger ate my post, and now there is one.

    ReplyDelete
  42. How did the three get on base? At least Tek can't be the one to make the third out this time.

    ReplyDelete
  43. BTW, starting to shower here a bit, so let's get to an official game soon.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well, not before we go ahead, that is.

    Is anyone else here??

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lowell E3 -- hit to SS but ball squirted out of fielder's glove.

    Yook line single to left.

    Tek walk on 3-2 pitch

  48. All the way with LBJ!

There's a long list of people who would like to go all the way with LBJ.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ish, I actually didn't mean it quite that way. It was LBJ's election slogan back in 64.

Damn, caught stealing for the first time.

At least we are ahead before the rain comes.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The streak is dead! Long live the streak!

Time to work on the next 25 or 50 consecutive steals.

    ReplyDelete
  51. lugo gets a bases-loaded walk, he suddenly thinks he can start running all over the bases. no.

and raines's record is safe :<(

    ReplyDelete
  52. Ish, I actually didn't mean it quite that way. It was LBJ's election slogan back in 64.

Oh, I know that. I decided to twist it around and subtley mention people like Andy, and Laura. And Tim McCarver.

    ReplyDelete
  53. There's a long list of people who would like to go all the way with LBJ.

Men and women all over North America, no doubt.

(Amy, I think Ish knew what joke you were making and was making one of his own.)

    ReplyDelete
  54. In other news, I'm creating a list of 201's, 401's and 601's.

    ReplyDelete
  55. #1

    - Times Joe Castiglione has called Prince Fielder his father's name, Cecil.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sorry, Ish, I thought I was being too obscure! Guess I should never think anything is too obscure for this crowd!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I just heard Cliff Lee gave up 3 runs today.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yeah, he's mixing up the Fielders and the Gwynns. He has already said Tony Gwynn is batting - twice.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It would be nice if it really started to pour. Our guys could use a rest and we've already won.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Pretty soon he will hit it out in fair territory.

    ReplyDelete
  61. HE IS THE LARGE FATHER!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. More Papi Dongs!!!

    4 RBIs today.

    So far!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I keep trying to think of other players with baseball related names that aren't nicknames (like Lefty).

Would David Wright count, as in right field?

I haven't had much luck otherwise.

    That was a fast K.

    ReplyDelete
  64. His name is Tony Gwynn, though. Just a Jr.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anybody else having trouble w/ Red Sox radio? I lost the signal and had to switch to the Brewers station.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Several players named Homer. Not sure if those are nicknames or real names though.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sorry, not listening to radio here. Just NESN.

    ReplyDelete
  68. His name is Tony Gwynn, though. Just a Jr.

But usually when a player is a Jr and his dad played, they always say the Jr.

Oh god, do you know who I'm listening to????? Who is the Brewers anncr???

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mmmm. The smell of freshly cut grass wafting in through the window.

...as Varitek wafts one into right field!

    ReplyDelete
  70. TEK!

Are their pitchers that bad, or are our bats hot again?

    ReplyDelete
  71. You got Bob Uecker, L?

Radio is fine here, although it's gotten a tad bit statickey all of a sudden.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Yup, it's Uecker. I've never heard him call a game - only do dumb (and sometimes funny) commercials.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Uecker was a guest in the Fox booth yesterday. Just saw on mute.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ah-ha...! But now I understand the secret of MLB Audio. If you listen to the out of town announcers, THERE ARE NO COMMERCIALS!!!!

I've seen people say this in game threads, but never got it. That's it. From now on, I will always listen to the OOT anncrs. I can keep my headphones on in between innings, my co-workers won't bother me and I'll never miss a pitch.

    I am happy.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hey, we aren't the only ones making up teams of players with themed names. Here is someone else's collection.

    ReplyDelete
  76. "Get Up! Get Up! Get Outta Here!"

    Uke's HR call. For "Brawny".

    ReplyDelete
  77. The team names is an old baseball tradition, I think. The All-[something] Team.

We are not original - we are traditional.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Frack.

    Watch out for flying baseballs.

    ReplyDelete
  79. That's annoying. Good thing we had a 4 run lead. Had.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Well, it was new to me. I guess I gave JOS too much credit for being original!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wait, that wasn't quite right.

Get Up! Get Up! Get Outta Here... GONNNNNE!!

Allan would want to kill this guy.

    BTB Brew dongs.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I guess I gave JOS too much credit for being original!

I should've let us take the credit.

    ReplyDelete
  83. GDGD not updating Hart. Guy must have gone to the toilet.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Sometimes hearing a few commercials is the better alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I thought her list was rather amusing.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Okay! I have some statisticals for the 201's, 401's, and 601's. (I'll have to go back over these at some point. Maybe make a scoreboard.

  91. Time for me to retire from the game thread for the day. I desperately need that second TV.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Now, Ish, how many times did the Sox win when each of us got the 201. See who is the real lucky charm! (I predict you will have the most wins and the highest percentage.)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Quiet game thread today. Must be a lot of people watching the Celtics game. Or enjoying the nice weather.

    ReplyDelete
  94. It's rainin, it's pouring.
    The old man is....
watching baseball instead of planting in the flower garden :)
Knockd out of garden duty by a thundershower.
You know I hate THAT! :>

    Three way race...

    ReplyDelete
  97. mdc up -- and was up last inning.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Allan and Laura, not sure if you saw it, but the NYTimes summer travel magazine today has an article about the "cottage" vacations on the lakes in Ottawa.

    ReplyDelete
  99. How'd he do? I don't even have a score.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I didn't see it because... I gave up the Sunday Times when we moved. :)

A lifelong addiction - cold turkey. It had been more a burden than a joy for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Do you mean the lakes in Ontario?

    ReplyDelete
  102. now unlike some posters (coughishcough, i don't start commenting extra when we get to 190 or 390 ... if i have something to say i'll post, otherwise, i have other stuff to do.

so i'm probably the best right now.

    ReplyDelete
  103. It's about a region called Muskoka. Is that where you went?

    Maybe it's available on line?

    ReplyDelete
  104. I meant Ontario. So hard for us dumb Americans to keep all those provinces straight.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Nice inning by Beckett.
    MDC next?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Muskoka is not where we went, but it's one of the very popular cottage areas in Ontario.

(You had said Ottawa, that's a city, the capital.)

It's probly available online, but I don't need it. Thanks anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Also, Georgian Bay. Interesting history of the areas as vacation escapes for Toronto.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Yooooooooooooooooooooooooooook!

    ReplyDelete
  109. YOUKKKK!

Big dong day. DONG DONG DONG DONG.

    ReplyDelete
  110. YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK

    DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG

    ReplyDelete
  111. Yeah, I knew that. It's the capital. Just being sloppy and lazy. It's Sunday.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Georgian Bay is directly north of us. Lots of cottages and also recently pricey condos.

It was a destination on the underground railroad, has some interesting African-American history connections.

    ReplyDelete
  113. remy: "red sox offense continues to be on fire."

    ReplyDelete
  114. A half dong for Tek!

    Love this Brewers pitching...

    ReplyDelete
  115. stupid 1-2-3 sox 2nd inning.

    ReplyDelete
  116. This is the pitcher's ML debut? Oh geez.

    ReplyDelete
  117. No mention of that history in this article. It does say that Muskoka has become very upscale and that real people (whoever they are ) now prefer Georgian Bay as more authentic. Sounds lovely up there.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This is starting to make me feel sorry for the Brewers pitchers.

    ReplyDelete
  119. difelice -- the 2nd pitcher -- was the debut guy.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I have to admit - I like the lizards dancingto "Thriller" for that water co.

    ReplyDelete
  121. missed the replay but don/jerry note that slugo was not hit by the pitch

    ReplyDelete
  122. In St. Louis, the Rays lead the Cardinals in the bottom of the 6th, 3-1. The Cardinals have the bases loaded against J.P. Howell.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Howell works out of it, 3-1 Rays going to the seventh.

    ReplyDelete
  124. i meant to check the rays score - thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  125. 8 HR in last 31 ab - pretty impressive.
    Hopefully MDC's more so.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I certainly am glad we have a five run cushion because MDC is not impressing me.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Four run cushion. But two outs.

    ReplyDelete
  128. curve in the dirt = prince K!

    one more, manny.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Who will pitch the 9th? Hansen?

    ReplyDelete
  130. MDC - not bad, nice regroup after the 2 leadoff hits

    ReplyDelete
  131. With 4 run lead - I'd go Hansen, but I'm not in charge. :)

    ReplyDelete
  132. 11 runs
    14 hits

    and nothing for manny.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Hey Gang! Looks like I've missed some fun today while I was out do-goodering.

    ReplyDelete
  134. i was thinking hansen too. nesn not saying who is up and/or ready.

    ReplyDelete
  135. What do-goodering was that, Sarah?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Tek's BA getting up there. 281

    ReplyDelete
  137. NOW would be an ok time for WF to close.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Bob Uecker is so awful. I can't believe how bad he is.

    ReplyDelete
  139. my last comemnt was not anti-tek, but pro-lugo (sort of) since his avg and obp are far from the worst in the lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  140. AIDS Walk NY - my team raised $55k! Which is pretty awesome, since we're just a bunch of college friends. Most of the teams in that range (all five of them) are big corporations with hundreds of members.

    ReplyDelete
  141. and it wasn't even my last comment. the lugo 287 one.

  142. Lugo v Tek, it shows you how people's perceptions are so different for different players.

Granted Tek has a lot more credit with fans, good reason for that.

    Here comes the Bot.

  143. It was great, Laura. We were towards the head of the pack this year, so we actually walked the first third, rather than participating in what I like to call AIDS Shuffle. We got back before the rain started and everything.

I am looking forward to soaking my feet later though!

  144. 55K!!! That is friggin amazing. Good on you.

We went on several AIDS Walks, it's great in NYC.

Also wasn't there a year we were too hungover and just said we went...?

  145. "rather than participating in what I like to call AIDS Shuffle."

Ha, very true! It's like Rockefeller Center at Xmas time. (I used to work there on weekends... don't get me started...!)

  146. Sosock, I am listening thru MLB Audio at work. The Sox feed crapped out and I had to change to Brewers radio.

But now I'm sticking with it - no commercials! I'm going with the out of town anncrs from now on.

  147. I think most people's complaints with Lugo right now are with his fielding.

Tek's hitting is decent lately, and he has done well defensively as well.

I am not comparing them. I think that if Lugo starts fielding more cleanly, people will not complain about his hitting.

  148. Sounds good, Sarah. I take it there was a good turnout.

  149. I owe Castig an apology. Uecker calls Tony Gwynn Jr "Tony Gwynn" too.

    Not Tony Gwynn Two.

  154. "I think most people's complaints with Lugo right now are with his fielding."

I think the Lugo-haters complain about both - say he can't hit or field.

  155. So why is Pap in? To get some throwing in? We all thought Hansen.

  156. Eww. Just... eww.

During the holidays, I could not go outside. 12 hour days, Sat & Sun, and could not leave the building b/c of the crowds, from Thanksgiving til after New Year's.

It would take me an extra hour to get home, just from the crowds.

    OK, I said I wouldn't start, sorry...
