  1. Okay. The Sea Dogs are Boston's AA team. One would hope the Red Sox game would be playing inside the bowels of Hadlock Field. Preferably in the luxury boxes. So, I'd say my chance at seeing some Red Sox tonight are 50/50.

My chances of game threadding? 0. Enjoy the Byrd!

  2. By the way, the Yankees waived Sexson and sent the Milk Dud to Scranton, brought up Brent Gardner and Cody Ransom.

  3. This makes me so pleased:

"We have a group of guys that know how to plate a run," [Cashman] said. "The history is there. They know how to hit when it counts. Unfortunately, there’s a fluctuation that can occur, and we are dealing with a low spike in that. I guarantee if you ran the same hitters out there another year, you would have a different result. Our guys are pressing, I’m sure."

Please, please, just run 'em out there again next year. That's the ticket.

  6. Just FYI, no Allan in the thread tonight or tomorrow. He's in VT for the memorial for his grandmother.

And with NO internet! But I'm sure he'll check the game on TV.

  10. Holy shit, I just something GOOD and SENSIBLE on Rogers SportsNet (waiting for the game to start on Buffyvision).

"Who cares about his hair? What does hair have to do with how a man plays baseball? Let Manny be Manny!"

This from the anchor desk. Nice! :)

  11. Thanks Zen, I'll make sure he sees it. (Some ppl saw it on wmtc.)

She was very old and went peacefully. Otoh, Allan doesn't have any parents, so it's a little worse, I think.

  12. If it's delayed, I have to put moderation back on. But I'll be back asap.

  14. MFYs have to be washed out in the Bronx in this weather.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Thanks Nix. I'll tell him.

In fact, I wish he'd call already. He doesn't have a cell phone, and I'd like know that he didn't fall asleep at the wheel on the drive out there.

  22. Sounds like they're going to play two tomorrow. If anybody hears anything more definite, please post? Thanks.

  23. Hey all,

Just had a rain delay siesta and got up to check if the game was on. Still showing Spiders. Flipped to the ticker on TSN and it said it's been PPD.

Annnnnd, its done. Doubleheader in September

  24. Oh and just read the thread, very sad news for Allan. Wishing you the best during this time that must be tough.

  25. Phil a little off on that Yanks prediction. 1-0 KC in the 5th.

While waiting out the rain at Fenway tonight, I went over to the Souvenir Store, and they had a little sign that said Manny merch was 50% off. And above it, it said "Good luck in LA!" Nice to see.

L: I did see that about Allan's grandmother a few days ago on your blog. Hope he's doing all right.

  26. 3-0 KC. Pettitte has intentionally walked 2 Royals in one inning. Yes, Royals.

  27. September 13th makeup game.

Mike Phelps just won the coolest race I've ever seen. Wow.

  28. Which Royals? Gordon/Bulter?

  29. Hi all, no more comments going thru til tomw. G'night!

  30. Hey, since tonight's game is rescheduled for post-September 3rd, which was the date Fenway was projected to break the consecutive sellout streak, that date now moves back to the next home date: September 8th--my birthday! (Fear not, I got tix to both the 3rd and the 8th.)

Then again, maybe they'll consider tonight's game as a sellout and the record-breaker would still be the 3rd. But I don't think so...

  31. This is BS, the Yanks game isn't over! Noooooooo.... oh all right..

  32. Too bad for you guys the game was rained out. For me? A win win!

Got to see a pretty good Sea Dogs game in the luxury box down the third base line... Had chicken fingers, hot dogs, pizza, and sea dog biscuits, which are ice cream sandwiches - vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies. Fantastic. We had some foul balls hit near us - one flew behind us out of the ballpark into the parking lot. A guy we were with went onto the balcony overlooking the parking lot and gestured the parking attendant to the ball and ended up going down there, meeting the guy and getting the ball. Pretty cool.

There was a very nifty double play by the Sea Dogs in the 4th. 2B Ryan Khoury made a diving stop on a grounder, got up and made a cool little flip to shortstop Argenis Diaz who threw onto first for the DP. Webgem material.

5th inning Harrisburg had the bases loaded with 0 out. Pitcher Ryne Lawson for the Sea Dogs then struck out one, and was helped out by his defense again when RF Mickey Hall made a leaping catch at the wall and then threw onto second for a double play.

Harrisburg pitcher Carlos Martinez gave up a home run in the 6th to Mickey Hall, then plunked Ryan Khoury in the side with a pitch and was ejected. Khoury slowing walked up the first base line, glaring out at Martinez before the ejection was called.

The rest of the game was a bit of a blur. We left with the Sea Dogs up 6-0 in the top of the 8th. Getting late, etc. (these are the Sea Dogs and I wasn't the one driving).

Harrisburg ended up scoring 5 in the top of the 8th, then in the top of the 9th, Daniel Bard came in to close out the game but blew the save, giving up 2 runs, and the 7-6 lead to Harrisburg. Such is the life of a AA baseball game.

In the bottom of the 9th, however, Aaron Bates homered to right to tie the game. Lars Anderson singled, Mark Wagner singled, Josh Reddick was intentionally walked, then Argenis Diaz flew out to center. A pinch-runner for Anderson tagged up to come home for the winning run but was gunned down.

But it was a guy named Iggy Suarez who sent the rest of the crowd home happy, hitting a game-winning infield single to first. Portland wins 8-7.

I don't feel too bad leaving early, though. Let's just say I wouldn't have done it if I was at Fenway. Maybe not even Pawtucket.

Got some cool pictures on the way of it.

My first comment in this non-thread thread was the chance of watching the Red Sox game as being 50/50. There was a television inside the sky box. The pre-game show was on, then the rain delay, and then someone changed the channel to Nickelodeon.

Also nice to hear the Jimmy Fund radio-telethon surpassed its goal of $4 million today.

  33. ...By the way, we didn't get one drop of rain up there. All of the rain stayed just south of the Maine/NH border. Portland is about 105 miles north of Boston.

  34. MFY tie it up in the 7th but Fruitbat gets the loss in the ninth on a double, single, and wild pitch. 4-3 KCR.

FKR abuse Texas where the Sox left off, 7-0.
