G129: Blue Jays 11, Red Sox 0

Red Sox - 000 000 000 - 0 4 1
Blue Jays - 214 220 00x - 11 16 0
Lester (2.1-8-7-2-2, 78) turned in his shortest outing of the year. He had pitched at least seven innings in each of his last eight starts (dating back to the end of June) and in 11 of his last 12 starts.

Lester:
Nothing was really working. I was rushing through my delivery, not a good tempo. When I did get the ground balls that I needed, they weren't at people. It just wasn't my day. Basically everything you don't want to do, I did today.
***

Jon Lester (3.17, 142 ERA+) / Jesse Litsch (4.20, 101 ERA+)

Josh Beckett has inflammation in his right elbow. The Globe says Beckett's next start is now moved up to this Friday against the White Sox. Terry Francona says Tim Wakefield will come off the DL and pitch on Tuesday in New York.

Also: Rays/White Sox at 3;45, Yankees/Orioles at 7, and Twins/Angels at 9.

  3. So, the question marks keep mounting. But if Wake can come back, and Daisuke manages to go more than 6 tomorrow, I think we're still in good shape. As long as the Rays remember how to lose sometime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Just put up a post about Bay playing Canada. The BJ game threader who ragged on Buffy last night did not know that those "at Montreal" games were actually played in Puerto Rico.

  5. I hear Joe Biden throws a mean knuckleball.

  6. From SoSH:

Per Amelie on the pre-game show: The team still believes the tingling/numbness is coming from the way Beckett sleeps, so they have him sleeping in a protective sleeve to keep his arm straight (which Beckett says is more of a cast). Weird ... he's probably been sleeping the same way his whole life, I wonder why it would start affecting him now.

    *********

I don't feel comfortable buying the sleep angle. I'd like to be wrong.

  7. Looks like Wake, Byrd and Lester against the Chokers.

  8. WHAT THE FUCK?! why is red sox baseball blacked out here in NYC on my direct-tv???

theres no other games on right now? and no NY team on the fox broadcast!
did you guys say mlb.tv is free this week?

    ReplyDelete
  9. joe and dave think lyndon was out. but no squawk from the jays.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Safe! Go go LBJ.

It's on MLB.tv. Saturday can be brutal on seeing games. Often even with the DirectV package, they only get the Fox games in The Bar on Saturdays. Stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I CANT SEE IT ON MLB.TV?!?!

i know the whoe deal with the sat. games. i'v lived out of market for years now. just trying to figure out why THERE ARE NO OTHER GAMES AND THE ARE BLACKING IT OUT?!?!!?

    ReplyDelete
  12. do i have to sign up like im actually buying an account, then cancel it after 5 days?

    ReplyDelete
  13. why THERE ARE NO OTHER GAMES AND THE ARE BLACKING IT OUT?!?!!?

MLB.tv is regional as well. I'm in San Francisco. But often I find that Saturday is just a bad day for being blacked out, even on MLB.tv. I really don't understand the whys and wherefores of it.

  14. zen,
ive caled d-tv complaining so many times about this. yeah im, "that guy".

they explained to me that they have to purchase rights to the games ahead of time, and sometimes they just dont purchase the rights. and thats when i go nuts.

    ReplyDelete
  15. sometimes they just dont purchase the rights

Ehhhh, we didn't feel like offering you that today.

    ...

Dave and Joe again broadcasting their staggering ignorance of Moneyball. ... I sense a blog post developing!

    ReplyDelete
  16. do i have to sign up like im actually buying an account, then cancel it after 5 days?

Yep, that's the idea. There ain't such thing as a free lunch. And btw, mlbtv is working for me, so i don't think they're blacking everything out because of Fox.

    ReplyDelete
  17. am i the only asshole that cant figure out how to ge this "free trial"? fuck it im just gonna pay the 19 bucks...

  18. Joe Grav spent the night in Chez L-Sock. He's at the game today with about 70-80 soccer buddies. If you see a huge sea of red in the 500 level with a big-ass banner, that's them (LF side of the park, I think). They are going to the Toronto FC/Revolution game later on.

    ReplyDelete
  19. mlbtv is blacking me the fuck out - though i am in toronto, less than a mile from the skydome, so ...

    ReplyDelete
  20. Enjoy the game, folks. Much too nice a day for me to be inside, even with Lester pitching.

    Go Sox!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Toronto announcers on about Lester's "bright future".

At what point do we realize that Lester's bright future is now?

    ReplyDelete
  22. The MLB A/V page shows which games are blacked out due to the Fox nat'l broadcast rights.

Of course, you're also subject to the regional blackouts based on the home market claimed by each team.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oooh, their graphics spell the word "Defence"!

  24. mlbtv is blacking me the fuck out - though i am in toronto, less than a mile from the skydome, so ...

Isn't it supposed to be blacked you out if they're showing it on Rogers?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Does everyone know JoS's own Joe Grav is at all three games this weekend? Staying at Casa L-Sock.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Isn't it supposed to be blacked you out if they're showing it on Rogers?

    Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Does everyone know JoS's own Joe Grav is at all three games this weekend? Staying at Casa L-Sock.

    I just said that, Don.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I just said that, Don.

I can't read most of the thread. Weird things going on with my computer. Hence my question, "Does everyone know..."

    So the answer is yes.

  29. vernon drags a little cloud over lester's bright future!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'd be feeling better about this if we'd scored a couple runs in the top of the inning.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hope you enjoyed that inning, BJs, because that's all Lester gonna give you tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  39. so, I was thinking, I've never actually gone to nesn.com. I head on over and find this question:

What do Don, Jerry, and Heidi have in common? Think tropical islands.

I'm guessing they all boinked Varitek after drinking too many sex-on-the-beaches.

  48. Fucking Cora. He's actually been serviceable on offense, but just horrible on defense.

    another single. fuckin a sid.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Man, Lester just looked bad from pitch 1. You think he might've slept on his arm wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  54. worst/annoying thing about being there on a day like today is that the jays fans love giving it to sox fans -- while they act like their own team is 128-0.

i fuckin hate those fuckin ignorant assholes.

    ReplyDelete
  55. way to go, chris "not jere" smith.

a comeback would be amazingly sweet against these fucksticks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. What the eff?

    ReplyDelete
  57. DOUBLE SHIT! It's 7-0!

I guess I haven't missed much, on the Red Sox side of things.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Still the fourth inning, eh? This'll be a long one.

    ReplyDelete
  68. who do we root for tonight? TB or CHI?
at this point im almost rooting more for the WC until we play tampa ourselves...

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think I hold my nose and root for Ozzie. 5.5 GB would not be good.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Just turned off the radio. STOP TALKING ABOUT GODDAMN MOPAR.

    ReplyDelete
  71. on to the 5th. oh fuckin' yay.

    ReplyDelete
  72. You know what that means...

You're openly rooting for Hawk to actually talk.

    ReplyDelete
  73. dear sox: don't let the jays score in every inning. seriously. don't.

    ReplyDelete
  74. its scary to think that the yanks even have a tiny shot at being in the playoffs. or within striking distance when we play eachother.
what sucks even worse is that no matter what their chances are, they can always play spoilers. and if thats not motivation enough for them, knocking the sox out of the playoffs too.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think the day after Elimination Day for the Yankees, they're still going to say they're still in it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Little fist pump by Litsch. Big strikeout there in a 9-0 game.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hawk can talk. As long as I can't hear him.

    ReplyDelete
  78. talent > motivation

    ...

    so fuck 'em

    ReplyDelete
  79. Timlin's warming in the bullpen... Appropriate spot in the game for him, but in the 5th inning you'd like to think you can come back. Well, 6th inning coming up.

Oh well. Rather see Timlin here now than Smith. 10-0.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yeah, I know. It was just a bad joke, seeing as the thread is (not surprisingly) dead

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh, well. We'll get them tomorrow. And Daisuke better go 7-8 innings, cause our pen is spent.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yeah, I know. It was just a bad joke, seeing as the thread is (not surprisingly) dead

Maybe not a bad joke, seeing as many threaders want to see me lose it, for entertainment value.

I bet Joe Grav is glad he went to last night's game. His group didn't have tickets for it, he just bought a ticket on the street and went by himself.

  99. Boy, am I glad I went out instead of watching the game. Even Lester sucked. I am depressed.

  104. Is it now the Twins in the WC and the CWS in 1st in the Central?

    ReplyDelete
  105. Is Pavano still expected to start? :>)

    ReplyDelete
  106. Is it now the Twins in the WC and the CWS in 1st in the Central?

Nope. Twins leading Central at the moment. Chicago went into yesterday leading, lost - Twins won, took over Central.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Pavano's getting ready to throw his first pitch.

Sterling: "Nobody in the world knows how Carl Pavano is going to pitch tonight. Nobody knows."

  109. How's work going?

I'm bored. I'm listening to the Yankees game on the radio, and watching, gasp. nascar.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Very slow. I'm debating whether to watch the MFY or attempt to peel myself away from the computer screen.
