Blue Jays - 050 000 000 - 5 7 1The Red Sox rally to overcome Colon's unsteady second inning and split the twinbill.
Red Sox - 200 001 13x - 7 11 2
Dustin Pedroia got three hits -- giving him 200 for the season. Jacoby Ellsbury singled, doubled, walked and scored three runs. His infield hit -- a play on which Scott Downs fell down on the grass -- gave the Red Sox the lead in the eighth inning.
***
Jesse Litsch (3.70, 115 ERA+) / Bartolo Colon (4.09, 111 ERA+)
Game 2 of the day-nighter.
MLB:
Litsch pitched the nightcap of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader against the White Sox ... He scattered six hits over seven innings and allowed two runs ... He's been dominant since his return from a short Minor League stint, allowing just five earned runs over 35.2 innings. He has faced Boston twice this year with great success, going 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA in those starts. ...
Colon last pitched on June 16 against the Phillies before heading to the disabled list with stiffness in his lower back. He's pitched admirably for Triple-A Pawtucket during his rehab starts, going 1-1 with a 2.51 ERA in seven starts -- including a postseason start against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. That particular start against the Yankees in the Governors' Cup semifinals was his finest -- a 7.2 inning performance, allowing no runs on just two hits.

MIN 5.5 GB WC
TOR 6.5 GB WC
Colon: Don't get the shit knocked out of you.
ReplyDeleteWhen will Detroit and the White Sox make up 3 games? That's gonna be a tough one, especially since the White Sox-Twins is the closest playoff race in the Majors.
ReplyDeleteOMG -- 2 runs on a WP!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletewild pitch about 15 feet away from zaun.
ReplyDeletelyndon races in
zaun tries to flip it back to litsch and it was wild
FY comes in too!!
Just surfing some sites before the game started, I found a blog post that reported one of my favourite (if not my fave) writers -- David Foster Wallace -- killed himself today.
ReplyDeleteIt came from one of the blogger's literary sources in LA, I guess. It's not a jokey site, but it's also unconfirmed and not on the news wires yet.
I left a comment and the guy who runs the blog emailed me right back to say "sad to say, it's true".
I am stunned -- Wallace is/was 46 -- and am hoping something official comes out soon/tonight.
Fucking Colon. Get a grip (and a DP)
ReplyDeleteColon Blow.
ReplyDeleteHansack could've been useful in this game... we'll see how the next inning goes, I guess. Redsock, are you watching? Does he look as bad as the results?
ReplyDeletedunno - in toronto - blacked out
ReplyDeletefriggin hacking dreamboat
ReplyDeleteortiz sucks.
ReplyDeleteHi all, awful slow night.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else is probably like me - just getting in for the day.
Where the HELL is our offense, and just when exactly did we get such a suck-ass pitching staff?
I know, I'm overreacting, but it sure looks like a non-contending team so far today.
mmmmm, Colon OTT scopy
ReplyDeleteDear Alex
ReplyDeletePlease do something to prove you deserve to take up space on a ML team's roster.
Anything!
Thank you
RSN
Dear Alex
ReplyDeleteThat was NOT what I had in mind.
Please go out to the bus and drive to the nearest American Legion Post and recruit someone to replace you.
Thank you,
RSN

Dear Sosock,
Does a groundout count?
Alex Einstein.
Jeez, Orteez. Pleez!
ReplyDeleteDoes a groundout count?
Only if there are less than 2 outs and a man on 3rd.
Son of a fucking bitch - rumour is true. I need a fucking drink.
ReplyDeleteShame about Wallace. I've been told I should read that book by several friends, and I believe my son has it upstairs, altho I'm not sure if he's actually read it or not.
ReplyDeleteOK, time to get something cranked up here!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe we've done this poorly against this young twit. What was it? 1.64 those 1st 2 games? And only Peddy"s 2 doubles tonight. OK, a single by the Bay, but....c'mon!
ReplyDeleteCOOL!!
ReplyDeleteBases juiced - no outs!
Just wish FY was up.
That's one back, and we don't ven have to have a hit here to pul within 1.
ReplyDeleteDear Alex
ReplyDeletePlease note most recent request and take appropriate action.
Thank you,
RSN
FUCK YEAH, TITO!
ReplyDeleteNOW you're managing!
C'mon Doc D.
Note to Alex,
the bus should be warmed up and Am. Leg. post will be in GPS.
Dear Mike,
ReplyDeletePlease do not take any further batting instruction from Alex.
Thank you,
RSN
Tiz Walks - make it hurt Yook!
ReplyDeleteAnd this is looking like 1 HIGH scoring football game, too.
Inching closer...
ReplyDeleteMore than a shame about Wallace. For Allan, a kind of personal loss. His favourite writer, by far his favourite book, ever.
ReplyDeleteThree consecutive lead off doubles. The first two doublers ended up scoring. Will Bay?
ReplyDeletePlus, suicide. One year younger than me. Geez.
ReplyDeleteWe're Tied!
ReplyDeleteAnd so are NY-TB
LBJ dribbler - Downs falls down and it's 6-5!
ReplyDeletePlus, suicide. One year younger than me. Geez.
ReplyDeleteIs there speculation about the reason for his decision?
Lyndon gives us the lead!!
ReplyDelete2nd straight hit for Laura's boy.
And the Yankees have gone up on TB by 1 also!
Sox and Yanks take the lead almost simultaneously!
ReplyDeleteIs he gone?
ReplyDeleteFirst official news was only an hour ago, so no. From reading IJ, I think he had some strong addiction demons in his past. Depression? As far as I know he was still teaching in California.
ReplyDeleteLBJ should have been at 2nd - rats!
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBURY THESE FUCKING WANNABES!
ReplyDeleteI shoulda gone to THIS game!
ReplyDeleteNon-steal a mute point as Papi comes to life!
ReplyDeleteBOT & TEK in
ReplyDeleteJere - I thought about you when I came in and saw the hi, no, lowlights after the game.
ReplyDeleteNot a pretty one to watch, eh?
As long as Paps and Mo do their thing (weird to root for both of them at the same time...) it will be status quo for DH-day.
ReplyDeletesosock--it was even worse. If I'd brought a glove I'd have a ball right now. Instead, thanks to a Vernon Wells rocket into the Monster Seats in BP, I was in pain all game--hit me right in the palm. ANd the ball rolled to some asshole, so all I got was a bruise. And an 8-1 loss.
ReplyDeleteTito managing his ass off in this one. Lowell didn't come thru, but that was a good move, as was Crisp.
ReplyDeleteOnly thing I'd have done differently was leave Lowell in at 3rd, Jed-I to short, bring Kottaras in for Kotsay, move Ellsbury to RF.
Of course, I could be tripping
Remy saying Ian Browne just missed an easy catch. Speaking of balls hit to people who write about the Red Sox.
ReplyDeleteWow - you tried the bare-handed catch, huh?
ReplyDeletePretty risky, especially on a line drive type!
DO repeating the myth of the BJs postseason chances.
ReplyDeleteOn 2nd thought, given that Lowell was looking a little gimpy last night, perhaps I was tripping.
ReplyDeleteAll is taken back, Tito.
Carry on
Good, wholesome dirty water tonight. Now, let's go Yankees!
ReplyDeleteOn ISH? He's not here, so load him up!
ReplyDeleteOn ISH? He's not here, so load him up!
ReplyDeletemmmm, conflicting edits, then a double post.
ReplyDeleteA-Rot grounds out, stranding 2 baserunners - same old same old.
"Pretty risky, especially on a line drive type!"
ReplyDeleteThe word is D-U-M-B, as it turns out. Had I just let it hit the wall behind me, it probably would've just bounced back and forth and I could've bent down and picked it up. I somehow thought I could nab it. Smacked my palm like it was hitting a brick wall.
8-9-1 up against fruitbat. Can he help us out?
ReplyDeleteCome on, Mo, 55,000 empty seats are counting on you.
ReplyDeleteIt always amazes me when ESPN or whoever has "no photo" of a player. It's like, "I took a picture of the guy yesterday! You want I should send it to ya?"
ReplyDeleteRays must've been bunting for a hit there?
ReplyDeleteEvil Rays get a L-O 1b against Mo.
ReplyDeleteSheez, get SOMETHING right Yanks!
And the BJ's will have to give a lot of BJs and probably STILL can't get in the PS
two out in the ninth. tying run at plate.
ReplyDeletemmm Longoria v Rivera - 2 people I love to hate.
ReplyDeleteDeliver us from Eva pinch hitting
ReplyDeleteFucking Rivera making it interesting. 1-run game.
ReplyDeleteuh oh, the NESN ticker tells me it's 6-5--which means my GameCast is behind and Fangoria doubles in the run. Or NESN was wrong.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, guy DI'd to second, and RBI single. Tying run at 2nd, 2 out.
MFY win. No change in the standings today.
ReplyDeleteOver - and no change for the day.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the recap of the early game, I'll take that and smile about it.
Raze Loze
ReplyDeleteSo both teams played 2 games, each won 1, lost 1. Still 2 back.
ReplyDelete1,2, or 3 back going into Tampa Monday for 3.
Hope tomorrow is better, for RSN and for RS.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it seems like a bummer of a day.
I remember being downtrodden all day when Arthur C Clarke died, and he was NOT a writer with a lot of good years ahead of him who took his own life. Sounds like Wallace should have been peaking.
Outta here.
ReplyDeleteLoooong freakng week. Falling asleep at the screen.
Manana,
wow. well under 200 posts for a pre-post-season double header. Last I saw at work it was 5-2. great to see that both the sox and the yanks managed to split their DHers, especially after two sucky first games.
ReplyDelete
