All across America, fans and media are going to hate the Red Sox as never before. It has begun in Tampa, where the Red Sox are the Evil Empire:
Who's next? ... the Red Sox! It is going to be Boston. Of course it is going to be Boston in the AL Championship Series. After all that has gone on between them, after all the feuding and the fussing and the friction, who else could it be?The Globe has quotes from Wednesday's press conference from Joe Maddon and Terry Francona. ... Scouting the Rays. ... Art Martone's blog has links galore.
The Red Sox are that sneering gunfighter you see in Westerns who you know is destined to draw against John Wayne. Or that glowering boxer who feels no pain who is bound to fight Rocky Balboa. The Red Sox are final-reel villains, and as formidable as they are, it is fitting that they should be the final team standing between the Rays and the World Series. ...
So bring on the annoying Coco Crisp. Bring on the dangerous David Ortiz. Bring on the mouthy Jonathan Papelbon and Kevin Youkilis, the escapee from the biker bar. Bring on the entire cast of Bond villains that is the Red Sox.
Joe McDonald, Providence Journal:
Talking to a lot of the Tampa Bay players yesterday ... they are actually glad they are not going to be Jon Lester at the Trop ... They don't want to lose a game at home against him, so they're actually kind of glad they're going to see Matsuzaka, who they've had success against this year, and Beckett.***
Hatred on the field?
Francona:
The bad blood, I don't think anyone has even thought of it. This is the playoffs, and that really doesn't enter into it.Jonathan Papelbon:
There could be something that stirs it right back up. You know how these things linger all year long.Coco Crisp:
It was just that series, and it doesn't seem like anything's happened since then.Dustin Pedroia:
I don't buy into all that [the media] say about we hate each other.Jed Lowrie:
I think that's all done with. Maybe it's not.

off-topic but i just finished watching the Bruins season opener.
kudos to the NHL for this new rule i just found out about - not sure of the exact details, but they have actually made it AGAINST THE RULES to have a commercial after an icing (i think its in the last X minutes, but maybe its all game....) - but yeah, good on them for having less commercial breaks!
its so the players dont get extra rest but hey, i guess it shows they arent all 100% money grubbing.
Pappelbon is a PR nightmare. A smart journalist could goad him into saying a lot of regrettable things.
Who is the jerk who decides to run these stories, deciding Sox are 'Villans'. How do we even qualify?!?! Because Youk has a beard?
If the rest of the states are hoping Tampa wins, I hope they get severely disappointed.

America loves underdogs until they win , then we all wait for the epic fall....
Tim, I noticed that too, with the new rule. It occured to me in the middle of the game last night that it was regular season and I wanted to try and make a game thread for the Bruins on my blog.
I watched the game, even got really excited for that first goal. But then I just couldn't stay in the game very well. Probably won't have as much focus on hockey until after the World Series.
"Cast of Bond villains"? Now that hurt...

9C has your answer.
Tampa = underdogs
Boston = current champions playing underdogs
therefore
Boston = villian
If you don't like it, it's very easy to avoid. I recommend what I do: watching the games. Only.
Oh, except I'd change "Americans" to "everyone".
FUCK ME, I CANT WAIT!
WE NEED TO FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS
Boston has been title town for much of this decade, so chalk it up to mere jealousy (and writers stirring up shit).
Meanwhile the Connecticut Supreme Court just declared Connecticut's ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. Hopefully soon the whole country will look a little more like Massachusetts.
Hopefully soon the whole country will look a little more like Massachusetts.
And like Canada.
WE NEED TO FUCK THESE MOTHERFUCKERS
A good answer to that eternal question: "Who will fuck the fuckers?"
Red Sox as villains? Inevitable.
We're winners lately, what can you do? The best I hope for is some moderate success in staving of Playoff Entitlement Syndrome.
We do have one thing on our side: the lack of an owner who demands a World Series title every year.
I am trying to remain grateful for playing in October.
Now let's steamroll these motherfuckers.
Red Sox as villains? Inevitable.
INEVITABLE makes its first appearance of the ALCS!
Hopefully soon the whole country will look a little more like Massachusetts.
I understand the context of this sentence (same sex marriage), but any other... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chez L-Sock would have a new neighbor QUICKLY.
