Babe Ruth Is Underrated

I recently did a phone interview with Brent Stevens from Babe Ruth Central. There are nine audio clips here.

  1. Ah, the perfect time to tell the story of your Babe book possibly appearing in Fever Pitch... (Or did I miss it?)

  2. Anybody else having trouble getting those audio links to work?

  4. Well, I don't use a Mac, and I couldn't open the links either at home or work. I'd really like to hear the interview!

  5. It's the usual stuff: my writing background (only 16!), genesis of the book (with you at YS), outline of book, peanut vendor/sudbury/ralph sheridan, Boston reaction of Ruth sale was 50-50, media has simplistic way of portraying Ruth (fat, liked kids, HR), no one compares to Ruth (think Santana crossed with Pujols), Ruth drew lots of non-baseball fans to the game.

    There. That's it.

  6. I meant that I couldn't hear it either, when I said it wasn't Mac friendly. Thanks for the Cliffs Notes, Allan.

  7. The links worked for me and it was great to put a voice with the blog!

Last month my wife and I visited the Hall in Cooperstown and they have a special display for Ruth. She asked me if he was really that much of a great player or was it just hype. I told her we'd buy a copy of Allan's book to at least tell the early part of the story.

    Just wanted to say thanks!

    There. That's it.

I know what it says. I just like to hear it. I'm a fan.

    Cool. Thanks!

Check out Leigh Montville's "The Big Bam". Superb bio that came out a few years ago. I recommend it without reservation.

Oh man. Under-rated for sure. Enjoy the book!
