Details Of Offer To Varitek

Rob Bradford has the scoop on the Red Sox's offer to Jason Varitek:
WEEI.com has learned from source close to the negotiations that the two-year offer made by the Red Sox to catcher Jason Varitek is for a guaranteed $5 million for the first year, along with a club option for $5 million or a $3 million player option for season No. 2 of the deal. It is believed incentives would be part of the agreement. The Red Sox have set a deadline for Varitek to accept the offer, although it is not known what that is.

Like I said, I can live with those terms. Looks like they took the 10m they'd have given him in arbitration and split it across two years, which is even better for them than paying it all in 2009. If Tek accepts it, he gets his two years and makes his alimony payments on time.

Actually, since it's only $8m guaranteed, that's even better.

Yeah. I'm not going to throw a fit if he takes that (and why wouldn't he?). It's certainly more than fair -- but not insane. And it's not my money.

I will reserve any bitching and moaning until April 6.

This Papi Golf Charity event show is pretty good. They showed a moment where they're trying to get people at a dinner to sponsor a sick kid for 5,000 bucks, and Wakefield is on stage, and someone hands him a piece of paper, which he reads: "Pedro Martinez has donated $5,000 from Alex Rodriguez." And then they show Pedro laughing his ass off at his table. I think NESN is re-airing it Monday at 6 or something.

Jason will have the best year of his career. Next year he will secure a huge contract and then be injured forever.

Love Tektually.

This seems pretty good to me, actually. If the Texas guys and Montero are going to be as expensive as they seem (in terms of prospects), giving Tek and extra couple million so he can save a little face won't kill us.

He's probably, what, a 4 million dollar player? 8 million isn't all that bad.

That said, I'd rather get the draft picks.
