Rick Morrissey, Chicago Tribune (also at the Herald):
In his hubris, Roger Clemens probably thought all of this eventually would go away.Brian McNamee, one of FB's former trainers, spent five hours on Friday with Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel Butler (and FBI investigators), answering questions about his involvement in Clemens's drug use.
He would swear to tell the whole truth before Congress, be as earnest as his constitution would allow and hope his seven Cy Young Awards would be more eloquent than he ever could be.
But it isn't going away. Federal prosecutors are tightening the screws like a compulsive carpenter. They're putting together a perjury case against him, and they're sending out invitations to the party ...
[I'm] intrigued by what it must feel like to be pursued the way Clemens is being pursued by the feds, especially when you've been a star most of your life. Fear doesn't seem to be Clemens' natural response to anything. ...
His supporters will say there's no fear when you know you've done nothing wrong. The rest of us will say there's no fear when you've spent your life getting your way. It's the only explanation for his refusal to give up this charade.
I'm no Rocket fan, but with certain soon-to-be-recent officeholders out there also caught in perjury about serious stuff, not to mention others involved in violating their oaths of office, and worse, much worse-- you'd think the federal prosecutors would have something better to do than get excited about a jock lying about steroids. Really, who gives a fuck about steroids or the liars who use them?
ReplyDeleteReally, who gives a fuck about steroids or the liars who use them?
ReplyDeleteI sure don't.
Lying to Congress is a crime and ought to be prosecuted (the Bush administration included).
ReplyDeletePeople lie to Congress every single day. They're called Senators and Representatives.
ReplyDeleteNever thought I'd write this:
ReplyDelete"Let's Go Feds!"
Yes, well, reps and senators have immunity for lying, under the Speech and Debate clause. The constitution doesn't have an Indignant Texan with Small Balls and Back Zits clause.
ReplyDeleteFor a perjury charge, I'd be more interested in former AG A.G.--and he's just a start. And if Texas is your thang, he's all of that too....
ReplyDeletePaps signed a 1-year deal for $6.25m.
ReplyDeleteAlso something about being a new morning in America.
And Lopez signed for $1.35m, so that's everyone.
ReplyDeleteAlso something about being a new morning in America.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but the afternoon and evening are gonna be pretty much the same.
