A-Rod: Never A Dull Moment

Newsday:
A-Rod is the cover story in Details Magazine this month, although the accompanying pictures and timing of the interview are grabbing more attention than anything he said. In one eye-catching photo, he is nearly lip to lip with himself in a full-length mirror. ...

When shown the picture before Team USA's game in the World Baseball Classic, Derek Jeter appeared a bit taken aback but had no comment. He shook his head and said: "All sorts of articles coming out." ...
Rodriguez called the reporter back the day following the interview and asked "that the name of his favorite Madonna song not be published".

Top prospect Lars Anderson (.182 in 22 AB this spring) was one of six prospects who were reassigned to the team's minor league complex yesterday. ... Dustin Pedroia could be back in a game by Sunday. ... Brad Penny will throw two innings in a minor league game today. ... The Brewers claimed RHP Wes Littleton off waivers from the Red Sox.

Golden Gate University law professor Peter Keane says Roger Clemens's defamation suit against Brian McNamee is done diddely done for: "It's a one-in-a-million chance. There is virtually no chance this will be successful."

The World According to Sexy Lips

Wallace Matthews, Newsday:
How many American men would have the guts to admit they have a favorite Madonna song in the first place?
redsock:
Ray of Light.

  1. I'd go Into the Groove or Dress You Up, myself. Always been a fan of the younger Madonna over the older version.

I continue to be amazed by everything surrounding A-Rod. That man has absolutely no self-awareness whatsoever. It's truly, truly astonishing.

  2. Pretty much all the tracks on Ray of Light are good, and that album came out in a pretty good year, before the whole world went to shit.

I just don't know why A*Rod is so narcissistic that he needs to masturbate in front of a mirror.

    redsock: Ray of Light."

Are you still not Canadian?? :)

Do you think Wallace Matthews thinks Judy is a Punk is the longest, slowest song of all-time? I bet if you played Alice's Restaurant to him, his head would explode.

  4. Actually, that is about the only Madonna song I like, though I don't know much of her stuff that wasn't a mega-hit and thus unavoidable.

I had to d/l the album to get the song awhile back but nothing else grabbed me while I was blipping around.

The mash-up with the Sex Pistols -- posted in one of the early SE posts -- is fantastic.

I'm going to give Slappy the benefit of the doubt here and say that he is totally aware of what he's doing (with this pic and the one of him admiring himself in a magazine).

I think he's making fun of his narcissistic image. How can it be anything else? Being that clueless would be a stretch, even for him.

    Well done.

  6. I also like the young Madonna (though I was a Cyndi Lauper man at the time) over the old, but I'll admit that the aptly named Ray of Light was kind of the one old-era album of hers I dug a little, and I was working in a record store at the time, so I got to know it. Oh, and whatever album that Secret song was on wasn't too horrible. But the second I heard about her little A-Rod thing, she joined the ranks of the Dead to Me. I mean come on. A-Rod?

  7. I like Madge, and not afraid to admit it. She (her formerly younger self) is prolly more punk than a lot of punkers that claim to be.

As for A-Fill-In-The-Blank-Rod (as Steve Sommers has calling him) , what a freak.

  8. Burning Up.

There, I'm an American man and I admitted it.

Wallace Matthews continues to be one of the biggest horses asses that is actually being paid to write by any newspaper.

  9. I also still want to know why they did the photo shoot in a crack house. In a place like that, A*Rod's likely to get jabbed by a needle.

  10. BTW Allan, thanks for the YO-YO update. That is some classic shite!

  11. I can honestly say now that I am repulsed by the sight of A-Rod. He just seems so gross. Just so gross.

I was looking in my "came-from"s and saw a bunch of the WaPo and could see it was Sexy Lips-related. Which would be weird -- linking to me on a story that actually began with them. But then I saw it was a collection of stuff, with the porn career link coming from here.

FY actually has a way to go to top the "Nationals/J-Lo" line. That's going to hard to beat.

  13. There is so much missing from the Sexy Lips article, and recent stuff, too.

How about the time he covered home by punching the runner who was popping up from sliding into home in the face? Looking it up...3/27/06 vs. the "Devil" Rays. Joey Gathright. Gammons says Tavarez might have been spiked. The reply looked to me like he just greeted him with a right to the chin.

And then the head-rubbing incident with Manny...jeez.

  15. Wow...

Perhaps A-Rod should hire a publicist. Might be money well spent.

  16. Holiday.

Pretty much all of the first record is good, as I remember it. It's not really my thing, though.
