I'm going to enjoy the walk-off in maybe 45 minutes
    .

Okay, so we had to wait 108 minutes, but it WAS a walk-off.

They got 6 runs in 4 innings.
We have 6 innings of hitting to go.
    More than doable
    .

We needed only 5 innings to score 16 runs.

  3. Last Wednesday, Pawtucket's Daniel Bard struck out the side on nine pitches - all strikes. In 9 innings at AAA, he has allowed one run, walked 3 and struck out 16!!!

  4. I predicted a winning streak the day this one started.*

*But I also predicted it the day before, and then they lost, so I re-predicted it the next day. Mulligan!

  6. UN-Fucking-BELIEVABLE is all I can say about that game. I thought of you all SO many times. I could hear Laura saying when the Sox were down 6-0, "We are going to win this game." And I kept believing it. And when Tek hit the GS?? I could hear JOS thinking, "Amy must be having an orgasm." Pretty much! I was yelling so much that my voice still hurts this morning. We had great seats---first row of the grandstand in Section 16, on the first base side, right near home plate. The ups, the downs, the dongs flying everywhere---a baseball fan's dream.

Um, of course, not so much for Harvey and Adine (the other NYY fan). But, hey, whatever.

Amy my friend, you just MADE my day!

I'm so glad you were there!

You probably already have done this, but go to yesterday's thread, to the 201+ page, and do a find for your name - there are a few mentions.

  8. I did scroll through the thread first thing this morning (way too tired by the time we got home at midnight last night) and got a few chuckles! Even Harvey got a mention. He, by the way, was a good sport, as was Adine (though clearly not happy with the results).

There was an incredibly obnoxious couple behind us---the guy a Yankee fan, the woman a Sox fan. They were both loud, boorish, and disgusting. The profanity was non-stop. Much as I have a foul mouth myself, I do not swear out loud at games when there are kids everywhere. I may mutter several F-bombs under my breath, but these people were unrelenting. Fortunately they left around the 6th inning to get their last round of beers and never reappeared. They were the one dark spot in an otherwise glorious game!

  9. I was only able to catch the first two innings, and then had to follow it via google's text messaging service. I spent a lot of time trying to imagine what the Hell could have been happening.

    Sweep tonight!

  10. Amy--LAURA IS NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO ALWAYS SAYS THE RED SOX ARE ALIVE WHEN ALL SEEMS LOST ALL THE TIME FOR YEARS HERE ON THIS VERY BOARD. I have watched the Red Sox win two World Series, come back again and again only to have some people here, yourself included, repeatedly say things like "it's over" and it's me, Laura, Allan, and a few others who get very pissed at that and remain optimistic, so give credit to the whole opti-crew please.

  11. Geez, Jere, she only said she thought of me, not that I was the only one.

On Friday night, while you were at the game (so not on the thread), I repeatedly posted "we are going to win this game... we are going to win this game".

Perhaps Amy was referring to that, which she had read the previous night.

  12. "Where is Buchholz and how is he doing?"

In his first start since injuring his hamstring, Clay Buchholz pitched five innings against Rochester, allowing three hits, two walks and two runs. That was last Wednesday in Pawtucket.

  13. Jeez, Jere, all caps? Really?

"so give credit to the whole opti-crew please"

Yes, Amy, you much mention EVERYONE by name each and every time you allude to believing in a comeback. Maybe save it in Notepad so you can do a quick cut and paste.

A thought: Perhaps Laura is Amy's best friend on the blog, and that's why she mentioned her. Amy also comments on wmtc a lot -- hell, they even email about non-Sox and non-wmtc things! Amazing!!!!

"only to have some people here, yourself included, repeatedly say things like "it's over" and ... [I] get very pissed at that"

Fine. You're the bestest fan ever. Can we all agree to that and move on?

  15. Jere, what Laura and Allan already said. I was quoting what Laura had been "chanting" the night before. I never knew that everyone needed credit for everything they said or did here or that people needed recognition for how wonderful a fan they were.

And as for me being negative, everyone here gets discouraged at times. Even Allan, even Laura. If you are immune to that, then bully for you. I know I am not, but I also am part of this community because I share the optimistic view and need it when I feel discouraged.

So....before I start telling you what I really feel, I will stop. Thanks for spoiling my good mood. What a jerk.

  16. For the record, I did not believe there really would be a walkoff (or a win, for that matter) on Friday. Like Grant (I think), I wasn't feeling it. I posted the 45-minute thing as a "well fuck you doomers, i'll take the opposite tack and ha ha you'll all see very soon how great we are" comment.

But thankfully, as I later said, the Red Sox don't give a damn whether some guy in suburban Toronto is "feeling it" or not. It doesn't affect their performance one way or the other.

Game threads are impulsive. If nix truly believed his all caps rants, I assume he'd have given up on the Sox (and baseball!) many years ago.

I often feel a loss is coming -- sometimes I'm "right", sometimes I get a wonderful surprise. But I generally don't post those feelings in a game thread. It goes against my blog persona as a total believer in all comebacks.

  17. I think not boo'ing your own players is more important than whether or not you believe the team will win any given game or series.

I think great fans do not boo their own players when they're at a game (in person, not when watching on TV).

  18. And when Tek hit the GS?? I could hear JOS thinking, "Amy must be having an orgasm." Pretty much!hahahaha - that was me, not so eloquently put as you, but i was thinking - oh yeah, amy's there she must be loving this tek GS!

  19. That blowup seems very un-Jere...maybe Amy's comments were taken the wrong way or something but man - wow.

Anyone who truly believes in the team coming back every night ought to have a 162-0 entry in the WL contest.
