Schadenfreude 70 (A Continuing Series)

Cleveland - 000 100 900 - 10 13 1
New York - 000 010 100 - 2 9 1
Elias Sports Bureau: Only two teams in major League history have suffered worse losses when opening a new park:
1. U.S. Cellular Field (1991) -- Tigers 16, White Sox 0
2. Great American Ball Park (2003) -- Pirates 10, Reds 1
CC Sabathia threw 122 pitches in 5.2 innings:
For a normal pitcher, that's a massive total at this point in the season. Even for Sabathia, a much-publicized workhorse, the pitch count seemed high. It turns out that only once in his life had Sabathia thrown that many pitches in a game before July -- and he did it in late June. ...

Bill Madden, Daily News: "In what will be remembered as one of the ugliest, most horrific innings in Yankee history, the House that George Built became the House that Damaso (with a little help from Jose Veras) Desecrated, turning the seventh-inning stretch into a seventh-inning exodus.":
Jose Veras pitching. Mark DeRosa walked. Victor Martinez doubled to right, DeRosa to third. Jhonny Peralta doubled to right, DeRosa and Martinez scored. Damaso Marte relieved Jose Veras. Shin-Soo Choo hit by pitch. Ben Francisco reached on fielder's choice to pitcher, Peralta to third, Choo to second. Kelly Shoppach singled to right, Peralta scored, Choo to third, Francisco to second. Tony Graffanino popped out to first. Trevor Crowe walked, Choo scored, Francisco to third, Shoppach to second. Grady Sizemore homered to right, Francisco, Shoppach, Crowe and Sizemore scored. DeRosa grounded out to third. Martinez homered to left, Martinez scored. Peralta flied out to left.

Meanwhile, some news from the old Stade Fasciste:
A baseball fan says he was ejected from Yankee Stadium for leaving his seat to use the bathroom while "God Bless America" played.

Bradford Campeau-Laurion filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against New York City and the Yankees.

The lawsuit contends he was made a victim of political and religious discrimination on Aug. 26.

It says two police officers who ejected him were enforcing a Yankees policy that keeps spectators in their seats during the song.

A spokeswoman says the city law office has no immediate comment. A Yankees representative did not immediately return a call.

  1. And in that inning, Yankee fans were chanting "we want Swisher."

  2. I thought (silly me) that the Yankees would be smart enough not to let Sabbathia throw that many pitches.

They will blow him out quick, and will be trying to rebuild him for the remainder of his contract.

  3. I used to hate swisher and his smug ass face. Now i love him. He may be their best most consistent player and he ain't that expensive. What a team of tools.
