Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the 15-day DL, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said on Sunday, and he hinted it could take months for the struggling right[-hander] to recover.Catcher Dusty Brown was called up from Pawtucket to fill Matsuzaka's roster spot. He will be available for today's game against Atlanta.
"It's not going to be a two-week DL thing," said Francona. "We have a lot of work ahead of us to get him back to being Daisuke."
Matsuzaka had an MRI done yesterday that showed "a little bit of weakness in his shoulder," but there is no true structural damage. ...
Matsuzaka will be sent to the Red Sox spring training complex in Florida when he begins his rehab. There is no timetable for his return.

Matsuzaka On DL; No Timetable For Return
Ben Collins, Globe:
That's a strange call-up...wow , Dice could be all done.....for the the season at least.
ReplyDeletenot really a strage callup, just a way of giving our catchers a rest giving us another bat off the bench and then Smoltz will fill that spot
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this might cause the Red Sox to ask their players NOT to participate in the next WBC. I don't know what the rules are as far as clubs barring marquee players from the event, but this was a concern voiced by Epstein with Dice-K and some of the other marquee Sox players before the tournament.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the WBC but, from the perspective of a GM or club owner, not at the expense of an All-Star caliber player from my roster.
All I can say is thank goodness that we have sufficient depth at the SP position this season!
All I feel like saying is, good riddance.
