After typing that, I went to Extra Bases, where I figured I could get a link. And I see Adam Kilgore has posted this 15 minutes ago:
Clay Buchholz will start for the Red Sox Friday night against the Blue Jays, the team's first game after the All-Star break, Sox manager Terry Francona announced after this afternoon's game at Fenway Park.Yikes! Not word-for-word, but pretty close.
Buchholz has a 2.11 ERA in 16 games (15 starts) for Pawtucket.
Rotoworld says:
ReplyDelete"The Red Sox are expected to send him right back down after the game. They want a sixth starter for the week because both Josh Beckett and Tim Wakefield will represent the AL in the All-Star Game."
Hmmmmm.....
Not sure about this, may be time to keep him up.
ReplyDeleteObviously, I did not see any post-game, but it doesn't look like Roto is quoting anyone. So who knows?
ReplyDeleteWith Buchholz on Friday and Lowell and Lowrie likely over the weekend (or at least the Dr.), there should be a small flurry of moves.
If Roto can be believed:
Friday: HH up, Bates down
Saturday: Lowell up, HH down
Then: Lowrie up, [Lugo DFA?]
But if HH stays, who goes when Lowell returns? Kinda got to be a pitcher. I wouldn't miss Saito. Maybe a trade.

Masterson, must still have options...
I can't see them optioning Masterson.
ReplyDeleteI Can't wait to see Clay at the 3A allstar game in Portland on Wednesday. It's the closest I'll ever get to the sox this season.
ReplyDeleteThe 3A game, nationwide or regional?
ReplyDeleteI think it leaves HH with nothing to lose by announcing this is just for one game. No pressure. Of course if he throws a perfect game he won't be returning to Pawtucket just yet.
ReplyDeleteIs there any talk about trading Masterson? He seems like a good number 3 starter, but I don't know that he'll ever get that chance in Boston. It seems like maybe we could get someone with some real value for him, and then slot Buchholz in his pen spot.
ReplyDeleteIt's nation wide. The Pacific Coast League plays the International League (Redsox).
