Mariners - 001 010 001 - 3 7 1Takashi Saito walked the bases loaded in the top of the ninth, then allowed a one-out bloop single to right by Chris Woodward that gave Seattle their winning edge. Saito threw 38 pitches in the inning.
Red Sox - 020 000 000 - 2 4 0
Jason Varitek gave Boston a 2-0 lead in the second with his 12th home run of the season. The Red Sox would get only three more hits: Jacoby Ellsbury's single right after Tek's dong, Kevin Youkilis two-out double off the Wall in the fifth, and Varitek's single in the sixth.
In that sixth inning, the Red Sox had runners at first and third with no outs and failed to score. Rocco Baldelli (who had been HBP) was caught off third base on Ellsbury's sharp hit back to the mound. After the 1525 rundown, Jeff Bailey grounded into a 543 double play.

Down in Pawtucket, Jed Lowrie played for the first time since last Sunday (he had been hit on the left knee by a pitch the previous week). He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the PawSox DH. He hopes to play some shortstop this weekend.
Mike Lowell is feeling much better since his Synvisc injection:
I'm actually relieved they took out the fluid. I wasn't sure if they were going to find anything, and having the fluid in there explained why there was discomfort. I would have maybe questioned things structurally if they didn't find fluid. (The shot) was instant relief. ... This was more of a precautionary DL than a necessary DL.Also at 1: Halladay/Wang

Happy United States day.
Also known today as Happy Assholes Day. I've seen nothing but assholes on my travels today.
So nice to see Schilling dress up for the Gehrig reception. I dress like that when I mow the lawn.
Jesus.
Slightly slow thread on this July 4th, I see.
I have done very little today. Not so on other July 4ths.
- 2004 went to Burlington, Vermont
- 2005 drove up the coast of Maine, almost to Rockland
- 2006 My grandfather had died on the 1st and we drove his truck up to Portland...not much of a trip but it was something.
- 2007 drove to Rutland, Vermont for no particular reason. Ended up actually one town into New York. Turned around and came back.
- 2008 I spent at my grandmother's house up in northern Maine.
2009? Not much! Although I might actually do something tomorrow. So it could count!
Anyways, I like baseball. I like thunderstorms. Might end up seeing both today!
I didn't even notice Schilling.
I can watch the hot dog eating contest but I can't listen to them talking about it. Is that weird?
CAPTAIN AMERICA!
HEIDI!!!
Ride, Captain, ride on your mystery ship!
I heard - I forget who I heard it from but I heard Nick Green is the next one to be visiting Heidi's house late at night. But don't quote me on that.
MLB is the new Red Hat Society.
what the shit! Why the FUCK is it blacked out. Way to go Direct TV, black out one of the most watched fucking teams in baseball... on the 4th of july no less!
Had no idea what was happening there but the crowd went "Whooaaaaaa" then Don said the runners go.
HA
Lugo walks on 4 pitches -- and steals!
Toronto also scores two. TOR 2 - MFY 1.
Casey finally found some food!
TOR: 02
MFY: 11
hey look - lugo is playing shortstop for seattle too!
A list of what we've done on the 4th of July? That beats the food report!
I'm in a down-time for threading. For the near future, I'll just be stopping by now and again.
ESPN is using their auto racing announcer to call the hot dog eating contest. And of course I missed the actual contest.
You'll never get more random shit you didn't care to know from anyone but me.
They're gonna wash off Varitek's gear first before awarding it to the raffle winner, right?
"That's a nice piece of hitting." Drink!
"That's a nice piece of hitting." Drink!
That'll be a killer, that one.
I'm thinking for the health of all who may be playing this game, that should be taken off of it.
Just like "cheese" and "gas" for Eck. You'd be bombed after two innings.
Brewers 4/9 of the way:
MILW: 411 1
CUBS: 002
Oh my lord, Allan, don't drink on that!
Ish, you know I was only joking around, right? I'd hate to see gamethreads without your (and anyone else's) random reports.
I was thinking of putting a :) at the end of that last comment. Probably should have.
Wind picks up, skies darken... But no thunder. Rain falling. Big, fat drops.
I should have used one too :)
ococ trying his hot dog eating technique!!!
Rah-rah military stuff on the radio. Why or why do people equate patriotism a la 4th of July with the military?
... because they are fucking brain-dead idiots?
(just a guess)
Now it's pouring out and we've got ourselves another turd floater.
Lights are on at Fenway... Bright blue sky no clouds. Lights are on. Mmmmkay.
oh good lord, there goes casey on "freedom"
have another burger and stfu, you fool.
If Americans wanted to truly celebrate Independence Day, they'd grab fiery torches and pitchforks and fucking high-tail it to DC and let some R and D blood flow in the streets.
I like this Brad Penny fellow.
Thomas Jefferson, letter to William S. Smith, November 13, 1787:
God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance?
Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.

whoa - went away and then pulled up mlbtv right as that brawl footage was going on --
thought it was live!
I walk back into my room and they're showing a BIG EFFING BRAWL.
I was like WHOOOOOAAAAA. Huge scrum!!!
Took me almost a full minute, when the Mayor was talking about being in the pile I was OHHH. Not today!
Hahah! Casey to Don: "I can see you getting into brawls. Especially if someone steals your burgers."

Ah damn. My fried chicken has wire tapping in it!
"What's Wrong With America"
Lugo's got to be in the Top 25, right?
"My fried chicken has wire tapping in it!"
I hate it when that happens!
KFC is a CIA front.
I like how the Mayor says the Okie Doke.
They can tell what horrible thing you're plotting in your mind by the way you're chewing.
Wang shoulder strain... MRI tomorrow.
They can tell what horrible thing you're plotting in your mind by the way you're chewing.
That is also because your fillings are radio transmitters.
Wang shoulder strain... MRI tomorrow.
That's a shame. (/seinfeld)
Flo on deck!
Flo at the dish!
saito in
... extras for the 3rd game in a row?
"That is also because your fillings are radio transmitters."
I was about to say that!
Two of us thought that. That proves it is true.
i was expecting to be a big saito fan this year -- it has not happened.
Luckily Saito hasn't sucked like Gagne sucked. He's just... Not as good as we'd like. But he hasn't been terrible.
Except for today.
any room on dice's plane to florida for saito?
just get a dp, asshole
32 pitches and counting
F*ckin saito
He's certainly a disappointment, although as Ish says, not of Gagne dimensions. But few are.
i guess i had higher expectations.
Runs SVP
Is the M's closer still AAAAAAArdsma? We have a fair chance, if he is...
RSVP! I'm going to use that for "runs pls". Nice.
i guess i had higher expectations.
Higher expectations than walking the bases loaded in the ninth of a tie game? And then giving up a single? You ask for too much...
i can be pretty demanding.

Remind me why a manager lets a reliever fill the bases with walks while the guy warming up would like nothing better than to rub your nose in it?
