It has been a very shitty post ASB start. A shitty July, at that. After yesterday, the Sox are .500 on the road.
After tonight they will be one game above or below .500 on the road. Par for the course.
After tonight, the team gets a day off to return to Fenway where they have a .689 winning pct (31-14) and the likes of Baltimore and Oakland rolling into town, followed by a series at Fenway south in Baltimore.
The players clearly know they're playing like shit (how could you not?!) - I feel like the day off and return home will be good for the team, and with BAL-OAK-BAL coming up, that's a pretty solid catalyst to rip off at least 7/10 wins and turn things around. The offense clearly has to click, pitching isn't the issue now. Sure, Smoltz shat the bed and Penny didn't look all that great in Toronto but if this offense stays stagnant, all the pitching in the world isn't going to turn this around.
The above brought to you by captain obvious (I hope).
And to just further how silly people are that are IMMERSED in our .500 July (yes, we are hitting poorly - .220 as BARTH pointed out (not sure how accurate that is) in the other thread, but still we've managing to go 8-8 --- that's 8-6 before we hit Texas, mind you) but, it seems to me like the general attitude of these doomsayers is "We're on a bad streak...if it continues like this" - STOP RIGHT THERE! "If it continues like this" is a brutal thing to think in the 162 game course of a season.
Surely no one was thinking that when the Sox reeled off an 11 game winning streak in April, "if it continues like this, we'll have 130 wins!" or something outrageous. As I've learned since I've started watching baseball, the season is a series of peaks and valleys, booms and busts. We're just in a shitty time right now.
Anyway, this is getting longwinded, even for my liking. But it seems like we go through these losing streaks every year (what am I saying, we obviously do) and I make one big ass post on this subject.
Fuck it. We're throwing HH tonight in Texas, followed by 10 games against basement dwellers...oh, and if you peek ahead in the schedule, you'll see our favorite punching bags this season are due up in early August.
All will return to equilibrium, the bats will come back to life, the team will start scoring more than one run per inning sometimes, and the water will turn dirtier than it ever has been.
That's not good....I would assume Theo knows this as well, Who's not pulling their weight, 2 that stick out to me Drew & Bay. Tek is who he is.....But Bay and Drew need to produce...

It's the attitude Tim rails against that causes me to say repeatedly to my esteemed partner, "Have these people ever watched a baseball season before? Is their memory wiped clean from season to season?"
It's all pretty standard stuff. But apparently not obvious to all. Thanks Tim!
I think most people's memories are wiped clean at the beginning of the season. Every year we go through this.
In fact, sometimes I feel like it takes a year or half a year to forget that things happen regularly. OMG time change. OMG christmas. OMG Thanksgiving. OMG losing streak!
Yeah, the last couple games have been ugly. It seems like everyone except Youk, Bay, and Drew are getting out of their strikezones, and maybe Bay and Drew are a little more passive than they should be (Bay especially seems to be taking a lot more hittable pitches than he did when he was going well; Drew always takes a lot of hittable pitches).
This sort of slump can't last all that long, but I'm still not sure we couldn't use a bat. I'd sure like to figure out what the price is on Victor Martinez and, barring that, Nick Johnson. With the frailty of our third baseman, the versatility of Youk, and the issues with our DH, it seems like adding a corner/DH guy is a no-brainer.

what the hell?
That'll do it. The Ls will start to pile up.
I just threw-up in my mouth a little bit. This is not good. The sky is falling!
Anyone speak binary? Maybe there's a hidden message.
I had a similar post on May 1, 2008 (a shitty 50 innings).
It has no bearing on this season, but the Sox then won 5 in a row and 7 out of 9.
One, singular sensation ...

Good list, that. Losing Streak = part of the season. Here's to it ending ASAFP.
