G90: Blue Jays 6, Red Sox 2

Red Sox - 010 000 100 - 2 6 1
Blue Jays - 010 320 00x - 6 8 0
Penny (5-8-6-1-3, 82) allowed six hits and five runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the Red Sox were sufficiently kept off balance by Rzepczynski, who was credited with his first major league victory.

Without one in the fourth, three straight singles broke a 1-1 tie and gave Toronto a one-run lead, then Bautista's double made it 4-1. (Penny bemoaned that pitch, a hanging curve, afterwards.) Scutaro began the fifth with a double and one out later, Lind homered to left for a 6-1 score.

Boston had taken a 1-0 lead on Jason Bay's double and Rocco Baldelli's single. Then they squandered a possible big inning. After Baldelli's hit, the Sox had men at first and third with no outs, but Jed Lowrie struck out looking, George Kottaras fouled to third and J.D. Drew grounded to second.

Kevin Youkilis doubled with one out in the third and was stranded at third. With runners at first and second and one out in the fifth, Yook struck out and David Ortiz grounded to second. Lowell began the ninth with a double -- and was stranded there.

Lowrie hit reliever Jesse Carlson's first pitch of the seventh for his first home run of the season.

Justin Masterson pitched two innings, retiring all six men he faced in the sixth and seventh, on 22 pitches.

The Yankees beat the Tigers 2-1, so Boston's East lead is back down to two games.
Brad Penny (4.71, 99 ERA+) / Marc Rzepczynski (3.00, 144 ERA+)

Rzepczynski is making his third major league start (and appearance) -- and his Skydome debut. In 12 major league innings, he has allowed seven walks and seven hits, while striking out 12.

Daniel Bard has retired 29 of his last 31 hitters (including four of four last night), 17 of them by strikeout. He has also stranded his last six inherited runners, dating back to June 16.
I'm trusting my stuff earlier in the count, which has allowed me to get ahead of guys. It's amazing what happens when you get ahead of guys.
In Bard's last six appearances, he has thrown 77% strikes and batters are hitting .037/.036/.074.

Yeah, after coming out to me he was a lot cooler with it, so it all worked out well. And we're going to tomorrows game for cheap thanks to a Rogers connection he has.

Of course, he'll probably try to have sex with me and turn me gay though.

Rob said...

And Tim will be flattered. :>)

tim said...

And ish won't know what to think.

US war resisters have tried it but if you have displayed any heterosexuality, the military tends to not believe you.

I'm guessing bisexuality would also "earn" you your discharge, no?

Rob said...

It'd be interesting if you had a friend who was gay and had a crush on you. That could go any number of ways.

laura k said...

Ish, a dishonourable or bad-conduct discharge can have huge reprecussions. That's one thing our US war resisters are fighting.

But I don't think you get a dishonourable for being gay. They just kick you out.

Meanwhile, there are all these neo-nazi skinheads in the US military and no one cares. I have all these links about it, will be blogging about it shortly.

I'm guessing the edges of the spectrum would be murder on one side and really good orgasms on the other (-;

Only lowell could make that double close.

Oh good, Brandon League is in. We should have this tied up promptly.

laura k said...

Re Ish/Tim, ha ha.

Rob said...

Funny how it's okay in the military to hate a certain kind of people but it's not okay to love a certain kind of people. And by funny I mean not.

tim said...

Oh, its Downs. Someone with hippy hair anyway.

laura k said...

Ofer, I don't think they'd care about the fine distinction of also enjoying women.

Well said!!! Can I use this? I will credit you.

Rob said...

Certainly L, you can use that.

Rob said...

Speaking of loving certain things, I would love a Baldy dong right now.

Rob said...

A Baldy anything good, really. Needz baserunners.

Rob said...

I did not love that.

laura k said...

At least the Tigers could score.

Come on, L, that's a specious argument. Everybody knows neo-nazism isn't contagious.

Shit. 10-pitch K, but still a K.

Well, the existence of a military (as they are used nowadays) is complete bullshit anyway, so I don't know how to word this. I've been thinking about it for a few minutes but my brain is scrambled for some reason....I guess what I am trying to say is that the existence of the military is a bigger issue than gays in the military. (?) ugh, no idea here. i feel like i shouldn't even post this. but i will.

laura k said...

Never mind. NYY 2 - Det 1 final.

tim said...

Well, captain. It's up to you.

2 games back We need Lester to kill Doc tomorrow.

laura k said...

Tim, I agree with you 100%. 1000%.

But then everyone has to be treated equally even in stupid useless institutions.

I am so anti-military, but I support women's rights within the military. No contradiction there, I think.

Rob said...

Another interesting thing is with the increasing amount of women in the military, why should you have to worry about men loving men and women loving women when already in the military there are military members loving military members? I am using loving as an umbrella term here that covers "sexually aroused by".

Tomw 3 GA.

L, that reminds me of Bill Hicks once saying in a comedy bit during the first Gulf War: "I happen to be in the unenviable position of being for the war, but against the troops."

sparkling clean water

i have to go get a cup of tea but if i'll be back to chat about gayness and militaryness if anyone is still here

tim said...

YES! Thank you for that. Making sense out of my jumble.

Ugh, purified by the clean waters of Lake Ontario.

Get 'em tomorrow. I'll be there! Going to do other stuff now followed by RIBFEST! (And Craft Beer Fest) tonight.

A Conformer said...

Oh, well. You win most, but you still lose some.

Rob said...

I'm still here. Getting buggered about my afternoon being messed with. Red Sox losing, sister sleeping so we couldn't go to the gym, and now might not have a car to go to the gym with.

Rob said...

Ribfest???? JEALOUS.

allan said...

Tim, if you are still here:

If work permits, I could meet you guys for a beer after the game.

laura k said...

Getting buggered about my afternoon being messed with.

Interesting choice of words, given the conversation. :)

laura k said...

Ribfest, mmmm... Ofer, did you have any great barbecue anywhere in your US travels? If you are still there...

A tweet from Remy himself:

let's hope that today's game is not a sign of things to come in the post Julio Lugo era-Jerry

nixon33 said...

Dear Remy, the Post-Lugo era started at the beginning of the season.

allan said...

Yes, we may never win another game now that Lugo is gone.

Rob said...

Jim Rice talking about if he's nervous, etc., about the speech on induction day.

He talked about how he'll really need to be patient because it's all in front of you and he doesn't want to get confused or tongue-tied or anything like that. "Plus, I perspire with the best of 'em, and it's gonna be hot there. I wish I had one of those little fans like we have here with me."

Rob said...

NESN definitely have a couple of old-timers analyzing games for them, using words like "perspire" and "bronzing"

I now have a car to go to the gym with! Good. I need to work off the baked goods from this morning. I've been munching on them all afternoon. Had so much sugar I'm shaking.

tim said...

Yes, ribfest is going to be amazing. I went last year as well as to a different one a couple years ago. Best ribs ever. Home made ice cream and BBQ'd corn on the cob which they dip in a slow cooker full of melted butter.

You think you need to hit the gym, ish...wait till after I get done with this thing tonight!

Just got your email/saw your post here, Allan. I don't think I can do that since I'm hitching a ride with my buddy and his family...they probably have their own agenda for the day. Good idea though - we will have to get together before/during/after one of the August games...which one are you guys going to?

allan said...

August 18.

Dear Remy, the Post-Lugo era started at the beginning of the season.

I was trying to think of a good comeback, but this is better!
