Spiders - 220 000 200 - 6 10 0Victor Martinez hit his first career grand slam in the second inning. Dustin Pedroia hit a dong to lead off the first and Brian Anderson went deep in the third.
Red Sox - 172 000 01x - 11 11 0
Beckett: 5-7-4-3-5, 98. After a very rough two innings -- poor control on both the fastball and curve -- he allowed only a single and a walk over the next three innings. Paul Byrd pitched three innings of relief, his first appearance out of the pen since June 2001.
Dusty Brown homered into the Monster Seats in the eighth inning. It was his first major league hit -- and he took a curtain call as the fans chanted "Dus-ty, Dus-ty!". Brown is the 24th player to homer for Boston this season, a new franchise record (23 players went deep in 1996).
Aaron Laffey (3.91, 116 ERA+) / Josh Beckett (3.78, 125 ERA+)
The Blue Jays have fired GM J.P. Ricciardi.
ReplyDeleteSucks to be him.
ReplyDeleteThe Blue Jays have fired GM J.P. Ricciardi.
ReplyDeleteOh my GOD! Never in a million years would I have expected this...
Seriously, though, I wonder what the point is of doing this 2 days before the season ends. Why not wait till after the last game?

ReplyDeleteMaybe the point is to humiliate him more.
There could also be a contract clause about some incentive bonus he gets if he's employed for the full season - that now they don't have to pay.
I wondered this about Eric Wedge - fired with 5 games left to play - while the FO lets all their best players sign with other teams, over so many years.
1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
ReplyDelete2. Jason Bay, LF

I cannot believe -- seriously, cannot fathom, like trying to understand infinity -- that the Jays still owe Vernon Wells $108 million.
ReplyDeleteThat contract was one of the worst in baseball history before the ink was dry.
