I'm in an interesting dilemma. I'm finishing up a paper in the lounge in my residence hall, and I am the only one here, so it's okay to put the TV on. The TV is all the way on the other side of the room, so I can't see it all that well; switching between the ESPN feed and the NESN feed, the picture on ESPN is better - but on the other hand, it's fucking ESPN.

Last night my friends and I spent about an hour compiling a list of Top 10 most painful losses in Boston sports history.
There was pretty intense debate about Buckner vs. Boone, but no doubt about them being 1-a and 1-b.
Losing to the Yankees is always worse than losing to anyone else, even the Mets. So that's why Boone is the bigger evil for me.
gah. been working on random technical ghosts that are screwing up the live broadcast of Stockbridge's annual town meeting. I can't get them resolved. crappy video ensues after an hour of that. The plus side is I haven't been watching the crap on NESN.
Plus, I wasn't around for 1986, but it's hard to imagine a more likeable team than 2003.

3. It was my son's first real interest in the Sox. He stayed up late for that game. Fortunately, his misery was short lived and 2003 was followed by some good years.
Plus 2003 came after 1986, meaning you've already lived through that, so it's more pile-up. Besides NYY, of course, as Amy says.

A quick comment on the EXCELLENT post by Laura. (I'm still on the bus, by the way)
I also used to watch almost every game, or at least the parts of them still going on when I got home from the little league field. I haven't been doing so this year, but not because they are not doing as well.
My life is different from what it was, and I'm a different person. I'm still a huge fan of baseball in general, and a die-hard Red Sox fan. They are the team whose roster I know, who I follow every night whether I watch the whole game or not, and whose success or lack of same affects my mood. But I'm not at home every night any more, in fact not very often. I'm watching if I'm here, I'm just nt here all that often. I do check this site almost as soon as I do get home, and usually make some late night comment only RS or LG will see.
I'm still a fan though, win or lose, and will not give up until we are mathmatically eliminated. I may accept that the odds are against us, but will still pull for the unexpected. As several have already mentioned, the unexpected happens all the time in baseball. That's a big part of why we love it!
Now, off to hear the band and watch the rest of the game on the big TV at the bar.
