G70: Red Sox 5, Dodgers 4

Dodgers - 010 001 200 - 4 6 0
Red Sox - 010 201 001 - 5 10 4
Dustin Pedroia's line drive single to right with two outs in the ninth scored Daniel Nava with the winning run.

Bill Hall singled up the middle off Ronald Belisario to start the inning. Nava's bunt (boooooo!) died in front of the plate and catcher Russell Martin was able to force Hall at second. Darnell McDonald fanned for the second out, but Marco Scutaro walked, and Jonathan Broxton came in to face FY.

Pedroia took a ball, then tried to hold up while twisting away from an inside pitch. No luck. He checked his swing on a pitch low and away, but it was ruled a swinging strike. 1-2. Broxton went low and away again, and this time, the result was a laser to right. Andre Either's throw was way off the mark and Nava slid head first across the dish.

Nava's double in the second gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Victor Martinez hit a two-run home run in the fourth and Kevin Youkilis belted a solo shot in the sixth.

Two doubles and a fielding error in right field by Hall -- Boston's fourth error -- ended Wakefield's day (6.1-5-4-2-6, 95) in the seventh and helped LA tie the game. Manny Ramirez singled, stole second, and scored in the second and crushed a solo dong in the sixth.

The Yankees beat the Mets 5-3 and the Rays beat the Marlins 9-8 in 11 (and what an 11th it was!!), so Boston stays 1 GB both teams.

  1. Various things, courtesy of Peter Abraham:

Doubront was sent back to Pawtucket (Dice looks good to start on Thursday) and righty reliever Robert Manuel has been called up. Manuel has allowed only 4 earned runs in 36.2 innings (0.98) for Pawtucket. His only other MLB experience is three games with the Reds last year.

Drew said his right hamstring strain is "manageable" and thinks he can stay off the DL.

The first two players taken in the draft — Kolbrin Vitek and Bryce Brentz — played for Lowell last night against Vermont as the New York-Penn League began its season.

    Nava, LF
    McDonald, CF

That's some outfield right there, huh?

  3. Mets keep it at 5-3 going into the ninth, but I reckon have to face Rivera.

  4. Yanks win.

Worst of all, Joba had a scoreless inning.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hall, Nava, McDonald.

    That's kinda funny.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Joba gave up a double down the line and was saved from giving up another hit on a diving play by teixeireiaei(ei). When he struck out Wright on a pitch in the dirt (his fourth straight slider to Wright) to end the inning, he did his little fist pumping yelling dance. Man, I hate that dude. F him, F his 5.52 ERA, F his 1.41 WHIP and F his stupid dance.

  7. OTT!

Ish is in the house today.

  8. Hall, Nava, McDonald

Best OF since Rice, Lynn, Evans!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Preach it, matty!

I'll take OTT any day of the week.

  10. Sitting in O'Hare, on our way to Boston. A MFY loss would have been nice, but we can't be too greedy.

We'll have XM on the plane. That should make the trip go faster.

  11. Thank god for smoke detectors. I'm a forgetful cook (aka a bad one)

    ReplyDelete
  12. Manny is stealing bases against us. Jeez.

  13. Manny is stealing bases against us. Jeez.

Vlad must've told him how easy it is.

  14. At Fenway... A lot more booing than cheering for manny this time. I cheered.

Sitting straightaway center in the sun on this hot day. Oi. But I'm here. It's more of a social gathering out here than a baseball game. Also: a lot of dodgers fans here. Enjoy the game.

  15. Idiots don't deserve to have seen a World Series title. Smartest fans in baseball, my ass. Led around by the nose by WEEI.

    Still, enjoy the scene.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I dig it. I'm at work, and I don't dig that part, but go go Nava.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Stay cool Ish. Enjoy the game.

    ReplyDelete
  18. can't blame the snake for that one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. yeah, keep bunting in the 3rd inning, joe!!!

  20. Idiots don't deserve to have seen a World Series title.

They may not have. I was at the souvenir store for an event a couple of weeks ago, and I was appalled how many of the people in line had never heard of this "Brian Daubach" guy who was signing.

Plus, since they never put individual tickets onsale online for this game, most of the people there are the sort that went to the scalper agencies and bought these because the media told them it's a big game. I bet there's less "real fans" than usual there today.

  21. did yook shrink or something?

    ReplyDelete
  22. It's nice we can field. I love minor league games.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I didn't get the memo, but apparently we're going to totally f up on defense today.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm not watching the FOX-cast, but I read on SoSH that McCarver said, "Anderson has more experience playing left field at Fenway than anyone on the Dodgers or the Red Sox."

Just when you think McCarver can't out-stupid himself, he does.

Good job by Wake of making up for our lousy fielding.

    ReplyDelete
  25. When errors abound, the phrase you want to hear is: No Harm Done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Now we know what it would look like if Pedroia ever played first base....

    ReplyDelete
  27. As McCarver loses more of his mind, he will top himself again and again ...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Direct TV on the plane. We have the game!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. snakes (in the infield) on a plane!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi, everyone. What a strange world we live in---MrsG posting to JOS and watching the game on a plane, Ish AT the game but still posting on JOS. I was at the beach---no tv, no radio, no computer, no cell phone.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I take it our junior outfielders did not do too well earlier?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I get here and OF COURSE, Wake gives up his first walk.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love when someone comments from plane.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Our junior outfielders are great in the box, and highly suspect with the glove.

    ReplyDelete
  35. CLEAN UP IN AISLE 4!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. torre would have bunted there, i'll bet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. nava's parents getting jeterian tv face time.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey, amy, attorney, teacher, mother, wife, fan--but not yet a grandmother, I assume....

    ReplyDelete
  39. Who ever says, "Why Ford, why now?" and why would they say that!

Damn you. I gotta mute these commercials.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, John...still waiting. I think it will be at least another week. Harvey was sort of hoping for tomorrow, which is our anniversary as well as Father's Day, but I don't think that will happen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. So I can't say I am happy about that Manny dong.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh man these assholes..."was that the most satisfying HR he ever hit?"

Now I usually ignore these jerks, but holy crap, that pisses me off!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I guess no one else is listening to FOX since I seem to be the only pissed off!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I thought I heard him say Jeff Weaver!! Yay, I want to bash him around a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Too far toward left for Ish to catch?

    ReplyDelete
  46. & in comes the bronx bonger ...

    ReplyDelete
  47. YOUK! (Delayed)

Can't wait to laugh at Weaver. I didn't even know he was still pitching.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Weaver is disappointing me. He already has two outs.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well he must get outs occasionally.

    ReplyDelete
  50. He has a goatee ---or is a van dyke?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Looks like a "van dick" to me.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Uh oh. These fielders need some work.

    ReplyDelete
  53. the sox used to always put NY on the bottom if they were tied with another team. why are they listing NY followed by Tampa on the standings on the wall? i am disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  54. My goodbye to Tim was premature.

    ReplyDelete
  55. He has a goatee ---or is a van dyke?

Looks like a "van dick" to me

That's what my Brit friends call an open goal.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Can the bullpen preserve this for Wakefield? It's sad that he has no wins at home, given how he has generally been pitching.

    ReplyDelete
  57. THough I know, I know, W-L is irrelevant.

    ReplyDelete
  58. W are not irrelevant when he is chasing the fat man.

    ReplyDelete
  59. It sucks how many times the pen has blown it for him this season.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hall is a real liability out there.

    And there goes Tim's W. :(

    ReplyDelete
  61. Ugh... that run courtesy of Bill Hall. Bad play in the corner, bad throw to home. Ugh...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Harvey pretending to be neutral. So funny.

    ReplyDelete
  63. They're irrelevant to me (Wake included) but blown games are not.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Then again, you can't really fault Hall for sucking out there. Its not like he's our starting right fielder. If JD were out there that runner would still be on second.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dammit Manny! I HATE those four pitch walks. They're the essence of pointless.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Dumbass: "The last time they chanted 'Beat L.A.' didn't work."

What? The one Friday night? Worked quite well if you ask me.

Which gets me thinking, maybe we need to borrow a different basketball chant, and try "Defense, defense!"

I'm looking at you, Bill Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nice string of biting comments here from all 'round.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Time for Nava to hit another dong.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ughhh, I really want to win this one. I don't want to lose ground on MFY

    ReplyDelete
  70. i got my glasses on -- is it time for the laser show?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Not quite a laser, but I will take it.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I actually saw someone wearing a "Laser show 15" t-shirt at last night's game. I want one!

    ReplyDelete
  73. STOP TRAMPLING EACH OTHER! Knock it off!

It's turned me into a little old lady at games. Every time 2 guys drifted together like that lately, I've been yelling, "Be careful, look out!"

    ReplyDelete
  74. Francona has to do some work in the field with these guys. Sheesh--don't they call for balls anymore?

    ReplyDelete
  75. Good work, Oki!

Now let's get some sweat power going!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Can we please go ahead now? I have to leave...anniversary dinner will not wait.

    ReplyDelete
  77. scutaro was certainly calling for it. did not see a replay of fy.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Garrett Anderson sucks so bad. Its killing me that he's got three hits today.

    ReplyDelete
  79. one more out, please. Right now.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Run please. Just one, that's all.

    ReplyDelete
  81. nice work getting those 2 strikes.

    ReplyDelete
  82. The OUTFIELD shall lead us!

    hall
    nava
    mcdonald

    ReplyDelete
  83. come on, guys, fuck with torre's "strategy"

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well Hall does owe us one. He can make up for it by scoring the winning run.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Crap. Now Nava owes us one. He can make up for it though....

    ReplyDelete
  86. fuck, 4 inch bunt gives martin time to get the FC

    ReplyDelete
  87. I love Francona, but that was just an awful awful idea. Nava is the guy who can hit, so even if he gets the runner to second, you're relying on Darnell McDonald who can't hit righties.

Just a braindead decision, and now we've got two down.

    ReplyDelete
  88. walks on ball 5.

    come on, fy.

    ReplyDelete
  89. DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY WATER BABY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. They cut the TV off at the pitching change. (we were at the gate). I managed to get the phone going in time to hear pedey's hit. No better way to fly than with a sox win. The water is even dirty on the plane!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hey Ish, glad you were there. Walk-offs are so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  92. YAY! Happy 34th anniversary to us!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Yeah, it's great Ish was there!

    Happy Anniversary, Amy!
