Rays - 000 300 060 - 9 11 0Manny Delcarmen faced five batters in the eighth inning. Single, RBI double, single, walk, 2-RBI single. They all came around to score, as Jason Bartlett hit a three-run home run off Ramon Ramirez to cap the six-run inning. MDC: 0-4-5-1-0, 14.
Red Sox - 000 001 030 - 4 8 1
The Sox rallied a little bit -- singles by Marco Scutaro and Eric Patterson, a two-run double from David Ortiz and a sac fly from Adrian Beltre -- but that was it. Ortiz also doubled in the sixth, driving in Patterson.
Boston missed a chance to move into a first-place tie with New York. A victory tonight also would have given the Red Sox more wins than any team in MLB. The Yankees had only two hits in a 7-0 loss to the Mariners. Felix: 9-2-0-3-11, 115; his complete game followed Cliff Lee's CG win on Tuesday.Matt Garza / Daisuke Matsuzaka
Update: Drew scratched with a stiff neck, replaced by Darnell McDonald.

no no-walker tonight.
ReplyDeleteTB has not swung at the first 8 pitches!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs OB freaking out?
yeah, i really want the crowd noise, but ...
ReplyDeletestaats is working with brian anderson, which may be okay. i have no idea, but he has to be better than kennedy.
ReplyDeletesigh
ReplyDeleteStrikes please.
ReplyDeleteRays have swung at 3 out of 22 pitches
ReplyDeleteNow that's some patience.
ReplyDelete4 out of 27
ReplyDeletei wonder what the fewest swings in a game by a team is.
ReplyDeleteIs their strategy to take two strikes each AB?
ReplyDeleteVintage Matsuzaka.
ReplyDeleteMy son: Typical Dice-K inning if I've ever seen one.
ReplyDeleteyep - if the proverbial spaceman came to earth and asked to see an inning that captured the essence of dice, that inning there would do just fine.
ReplyDelete... so why isn't that son posting his own thoughts?
ReplyDelete(granted, it is easier to crack wise and have someone else type it out. ideal, really.)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I picked last night to go. I can't stand Garza, and Dice-K is, well, y'know, Dice-K.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I know he visits your site, but no posting.
ReplyDeleteokay. :>)
ReplyDeleteno pressure.
(we used to have a mom-son posting combo, but not this year.)
welcome to boston ..... asshole.
ReplyDeleteHe was safe.
ReplyDeleterays show flo's dong from last night -- fucking majestic thing of beauty.
ReplyDeleteand the whining begins ....
ReplyDeleteSEA: 01
ReplyDeleteMFY: 0
Bradley dong
rays tv still whining: shoppach K was same as called ball to flo.
ReplyDeletegod. it must be a clear job instruction.
rays have posted "email the booth" like 3-4 times already tonight. so i did:
ReplyDelete"for years, i have heard rays tv announcers whine about calls going against tampa hitters, pitchers and runner. staats and whoever has been with him (magraine, kennedy, anderson) always whines when anything goes against the rays. is it a job requirement? (you guys are actually famous among other teams' fans for it.) and tonight, it starts with the ball to ortiz and the strike to shoppach. ... and yet, when a call goes in the rays' favor, you never say a thing. ... umpires blow calls, it happens all the damn time. and they go both ways. try to deal with it."
i doubt they will share it on air.
Yea, doubtful.
ReplyDeletei wonder how many emails staats gets about his hair.
ReplyDeleteCastig Trup'd me!
ReplyDeletesea 3, mfy 0 (top 3)
ReplyDeleteMariners lead 3-0 over MFY!
ReplyDeletefucking majestic thing of beauty.
ReplyDeleteYeah it really was. And it landed right where my 10th Man Plan seats are. (Of course I wasn't in those seats last night, but that's OK.)
sea 3, mfy 0 (top 3)
ReplyDeleteLet me know when it's over. (But I don't mind the updates, I just won't go looking myself.)
Garza 20 pitches 2 innings 1 hit.
ReplyDeleteDice K 49 pitches 2 innings 1 hit.
Dice K giving fans their money's worth and management likes him cause he encourages heavy drinking by the fans!
Mmmm--beer.
Great email to the booth!
ReplyDeletefoxsportsflorida.com
ReplyDeleteand click on the rays logo.
Now they're talking about whether Rays should be buyers or sellers. WTH?
ReplyDeleteCould it be??????
ReplyDeleteyeah, the rays are 2 games out of the wild card on june 30. should they blow it up?
ReplyDeleteYes, OTT.
ReplyDelete7-pitch inning. Yep, it's Dice-K alright.
ReplyDeleteWow that was fast! Maybe the concessions did a quick calculation and decided they might not have enough beer on hand for a full Dice-K night.
ReplyDeleteyeah, the rays are 2 games out of the wild card on june 30. should they blow it up?
ReplyDeleteEmail the booth as tell them yes, they should. We can start by taking Crawford off their hands.
kristen: i don't think i have you linked on the right hand side, which is a bad oversight. i do have the uniform number url, but do you have a blog url to include?
ReplyDeletemore "email the booth" -- these guys are lonely!
ReplyDeleteWow that was fast! Maybe the concessions did a quick calculation and decided they might not have enough beer on hand for a full Dice-K night.
ReplyDeleteHaha. I remember several years ago we were at Fenway during a very long rain delay. It was the last night either before a long away streak or maybe even before the All Star break. Anyway, they ran out of food before finally calling the game. No food to be found anywhere. Not many fans left and we ended up playing baseball trivia at a table with people we didn't know.
great discussion about jeff neimann. he has a 2.72 era (4th in AL?) but he apparently needs more wins to get any serious all-star consideration. however, he has pitched well, but has been unlucky and does not have the wins to show for it. so yeah he has that great ERA but he really needs a couple more wins to show everyone that he is a good deserving pitcher.
ReplyDeletemy fucking head hurts.
maddon is not that dumb. he knows that the rays' slump cannot be cured by lineup construction. ... nearing music accompaniment.
ReplyDeletenice bunt!!!
ReplyDeleteterrible bunt looks like the beginning of the houdini act
ReplyDeleteI guess that's the alternative: If you don't bunt it fair, make sure it goes foul?
ReplyDelete"a horrible bunt"--DO
ReplyDeleteUgh, didn't happen this time.
ReplyDeleteBleh.
ReplyDeletethought he had a good bead on it
ReplyDeleteOkay, I've got NESN announcers synched up with TV. That's enough of the Sun channel or whatever it is.
ReplyDeleteIt looked like he mistimed his jump.
ReplyDeleteRadio announcers say ball should've been caught.
ReplyDeleteI think he should have caught it. My son says it would have been a great catch.
ReplyDeletewtf was that, yook?
ReplyDeleteWho's got a number for the batters faced who've reach a full count tonight?
ReplyDeleteRichardson warming up.
ReplyDelete7 of 19
ReplyDelete"Already activity in the bull pen--Dustin Richardson up and throwing". I'm full of confidence now ;P
ReplyDeletekristen: do you have a blog url to include?

Peter Abraham's Extra Bases--
ReplyDelete"Top of the 2nd: Rays 0, Red Sox 0
Eric Patterson must not have got the memo. When you're an unknown player in your first game for the Red Sox ar Fenway Park this season, you're supposed to do something dramatic in your first at-bat. He grounded into a double play.
"Dude, c'mon," Daniel Nava said.
"Seriously," replied Darnell McDonald. "
Now Playing: Louis Armstrong & His Hot Five (mid-1920s).
ReplyDeleterays fans at july 9 get a david price shirt, which includes the words "price price baby"
ReplyDeletewhat year is this?
CS!! Score some runs.
ReplyDelete"Ice Ice Baby" was voted by Blender Magazine as being one of the 5 worst songs ever made. Great that the Rays are honoring it.
ReplyDeleteLots of fly balls.
ReplyDeleteFLO FLO BABY!
ReplyDeletePAPI!! That was so close.

ReplyDeleteSEA 7, MFY 0 - final
ReplyDeleteThanks Allan!
ReplyDeleteU-G-L-Y
ReplyDeletemdc is not the answer
ReplyDeleteunless the Q is: who is pitching like shit?
I'm glad we saved his arm last night. WOW!!!
ReplyDeletewell, that about does it.
ReplyDeleteUgh. What relievers will be available?
ReplyDeleteif choate stays in long enough, we can win this.
ReplyDeleteI love Papi's first pitch swinging.
ReplyDeleteFrom the spitter to the cusser.
That's two good catches by him.
ReplyDeletethese outfield snags are pissing me off.
ReplyDeletemmmmmm, not liking the mood. We must be behind
ReplyDeleteJust pulled up GDGD. Ouch. Not just behind. Getting our asses handed to us.
ReplyDeleteOh well.......
Jr. All Star team lost tonight 2. Pretty much locks us out of the final round.
5+ runs pls
ReplyDeletestoopid WSJ
ReplyDeleteWhat a line for MDC - 5 atters, no outs, they all score. ERA = infinity
ReplyDeleteOn a better note - Dice apparently didn't suck TOO bad.
ReplyDeletepfft.
ReplyDeleteAnd Scutaro wastes no time making the water clean.
ReplyDeleteOy
Hate that clean water.
