G81: Red Sox 9, Orioles 3

Orioles - 000 010 002 - 3 7 2
Red Sox - 400 020 03x - 9 14 0
Lester (7-5-1-1-7, 100) stymied the Orioles yet again -- and his teammates struck early for an easy victory.

Lester loaded the bases in the top of the first with one out, but got Adam Jones to GIDP to wriggle out of danger. After that, he was solid. Jones was the first of 10 straight batters Lester set down through the fourth. He gave up a run on three hits in the fifth, and retired his last seven batters. Ramon Ramirez and Robert Manuel finished up.

RBI doubles from Kevin Youkilis, J.D. Drew (2 RBI), and Daniel Nava gave Boston a 4-0 lead in the first. Yook blasted a hanging slider over the Wall for a two-run dong in the fifth. Two more run-scoring doubles in the eighth, from Mike Cameron and Ortiz, along with two errors pushed the Sox's lead to 9-1.

In addition to his two doubles, Ortiz also singled, walked and scored twice. Drew doubled, singled twice, and walked. Nava had two hits and Eric Patterson singled, walked, and scored twice.

The Yankees scored 11 runs in the third inning this afternoon and beat the Blue Jays 11-3. The Rays beat the Twins 8-6. The East standings remain the same: Red Sox 0.5 GB, Rays 2 GB.

  5. I don't normally advocate the viewing of FOX baseball but Kevin Millar is doing the Mets/Nats game with Joe Buck. This is actually pretty good. Millar is being his normal, hilarious self. He's not being watered down here, except by the FCC.

  6. Cabin is a natural. He's witty and funny, but I have not heard enough of him to know how solid his analysis is.

I also wonder how his persona will evolve when he is 5-7 years away from playing the game (assuming he keeps doing this) and he does not know so many players like he knows the ones playing now.

    Globe:

Buchholz did not throw a bullpen session today. He threw on flat ground. His start might be bumped from Monday to Tuesday.

Delcarmen's MRI was clear re structural issues.

Hermida took "aggressive" swings off the tee and will take BP on the field Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ha ha ha. No really, who was it?

How come I just heard Castig say NYY won but here it says they lost? Please confirm or deny.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Oh. Those are not two separate 1 s.

    Never mind.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm still hoping to find out why Markakis is a whore. Maybe Meunier will stop by and tell me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He fucks us [over by hitting well against us] for money? (We're not the ones paying him, but maybe that doesn't matter.)

    ReplyDelete
  14. At least we have now a catcher who will probably throw down to second on every SB attempt.

    ReplyDelete
  15. a double play here would not enrage me.

  20. I can't tell anything from the MASN replay. What does it show on NESN?

    ReplyDelete
  21. MLBTV stayed with the feed so I can tell you that Juan Samuel was not enamored of the call.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Obie says it looks like the runner was safe - Yook's foot off the bag. True?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes, I saw that too. Thorne saying that they watched it several times and that it was the right call.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i don't think nesn has shown a replay.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oops, the yes I saw that too was in response to Allan's comment, not yours Laura.

I've got WEEI audio now. I can't get NESN on the computer because I'm blacked out by being in the MASN area (2+ hours away).

    ReplyDelete
  26. watching it live, i don't see how he could have kept his foot on, but i have no idea, really.

    ReplyDelete
  27. yep, foot on bag. may have come off, but it got back on in time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Radio saying it was a good call.

    YOOUUKKK!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hey Guthrie:

    YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE SWEAT!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Youk shows half dong, but that's enough

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, Obie changed his mind based on a different replay. Earlier he said when you're losing like the O's are, calls never go your way.

    ReplyDelete
  32. From the cottage: This place is amaaaaZing. I want to live here. Fuck the rays and mfy with their giant run scoring innings. Hooray for my iPhone autofilling "mfy" also.

Go sox and win this to keep 1/2 game back! Enjoy the game jos, be back this week.

  33. Tim, I am soooo jealous!

    But glad you're enjoying it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Gotta stop threading. Bye for now.

    ReplyDelete
  35. major league players? we don't need no steenkin' major league players!

    ReplyDelete
  36. alright, so this rally is mostly by the usual lineup, but still...

    ReplyDelete
  37. guthrie threw only 6 more pitches than lester (28 to 22).

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'll take four runs. Hopefully it's all Lester needs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Aww snap!

MLBtv free game of the day is this!

I'm literally sitting over lake Erie watching baseball. Good old technology.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That's sweet Tim. Sounds great.

    Where are you?

    ReplyDelete
  41. MASN with a stat: Orioles outscored 63-30 this season in the first inning. Ouch.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sounds nice, Tim. I assume you are accompanied by an adult beverage.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm in Wheatley, on. Right beside point pelee, the southern most point in Canada

    ReplyDelete
  44. Man, that sub 3 ERA looks really good on Lester. Especially in the AL East.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Naturally, stephs been on a sangria kick as of late, I like ceasars (yeah, that's right. With clamato) and there's plenty of pelee island (and other) wine to last a week. I like overpacking.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Say hello to Pelee Island for me. You know why :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. I remember y'all talking about this before. It sounds beautiful. We have friends in Ann Arbor and have crossed the border into Canada near there I guess. Take some pics with your iPhone. I love being on the water.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Sorry for the random caps and periods. That's just the way this shit types

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lol, sorry l. No bottles of Pinot floating up to the shore here

    ReplyDelete
  50. That makes me a bit less jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  51. My after dinner treat? Bud Light and cotton candy, a surprisingly good combination.

I'm not on Lake Erie, but I just looked outside and we have about 50 Canadian Geese in the backyard.

    ReplyDelete
  52. PAPI!! I think he is headed for another good month of hitting.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is Izturis throwing this game?

Slow to make the relay to 1st in the first inning and then not throwing to Lugo to maybe get Flo at 2nd?

(Ah, then he covers his ass with a nice play!)

    ReplyDelete
  54. That doesn't look like any lake in New Hampshire. That looks more like a sea.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think everyone can get over their fear of Baltimore now.

Mrs G, sorry to be nitpicky, but you made a Canadian faux pas. They are "Canada Geese", not "Canadian Geese". I love to see them flying in their Vs with their long necks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wow Tim. That is amazing. It is beautiful. Looks very relaxing. Thanks for posting.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ad photo of where I am sitting. Sorry if the links don't work, i'm on my phone which makes me more drunk and beligerant in comment form than usual :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Patrick, I always think that. The Great Lakes are SO huge. I think Lake Ontario, which we live near, is huge - then I look at the map and see Lake Superior. Crazy. And Ontario! Even crazier.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Canada Geese? Really? Well, whattyaknow? I'll remember that.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Wow Tim, you said literally right over, you meant it. Whose place is this, again?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yeah, go figure, Canada Geese.

I said I wasn't threading, gotta get back to work...

    ReplyDelete
  62. ... and when are we invited out there?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Just some rental place I found online. I can send you the link if you want! Haha alright going to get off the phone and enjoy this!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Tim, the links work great. I'm going to have to investigate how to link to an iPhone photo just taken. yfrog, huh?

Laura, the geese are wonderful to look at, especially when they are flying. But, we have way too many that hang around and mess up the backyard. It wasn't too bad when our dog was younger and could shoo them away. But, it is nature and I'm good with it. I like our bald eagle better. There is only one of her.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sid appears to have settled down nicely, has set down 10 in a row.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes, we are in the geese's way, so their lives become our mess.

  68. Don is squeaking like a mouse!!!

holy shit, he is out of control.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i think (i joined in late) remy is talking about the long, "this is what our family is doing" in minute detail emails. he hates them, doesn't care about anyone's life, trashes them ...

    ReplyDelete
  70. ball up - ball gone!

    SULTAN OF SWEAT!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. yoooook mooooon shot

holy shit! no wonder he sweats so much, he is HOT

    ReplyDelete
  72. Cabin's analysis was good until he needed to use facts, then he got very Eck-like. That's the only way I could describe it.

They talked about the Red Sox a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I wish I could hear that. I love Remy's misanthropy.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Cabin's analysis was good until he needed to use facts,

    :>)

    ReplyDelete
  75. don loving jerry's general hatred and dismissal of the human race, then they learned that tom caron sends out those kinds of emails --and don totally lost it again.

squeaking entire sentences like "the 1-1 is low and it's 2-1"!

they went to commercial and when they came back, i got the early audio. remy was saying something like "i really can't stand this" and don was laughing and snorting, "there's a lot of things you can't stand lately".

i hear some guffaws, a few seconds of quiet, and then don is right back on the air, totally composed.

    ReplyDelete
  76. hey hey hey it's matt albers

    ReplyDelete
  77. i figured he would be limited, but honestly, if he was on nesn in remy's spot, i would not care. i get enough analysis elsewhere. just watching the game, he'd be 3-4 hours of fun every night. (hell, let don go and have remy and mirror!!)

    ReplyDelete
  78. God that sounds funny.

I'd love Millar to take Remy's spot when he leaves, but I can't see the three of them. That would be a bit much.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I feel like our starters need to go 8 innings every time.

Even if Lester makes it through 7, I feel a little disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  80. You mean bc you don't trust the pen? Or... ?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Because I don't trust the pen outside of Pap and Bard.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hi everyone. Off duty for a while and trying to catch up on email, the news, baseball, etc. Looks like we are winning. Guess we'd better win against Baltimore!

    ReplyDelete
  83. And I don't trust the pen except for Bard.

    ReplyDelete
  84. And I don't trust the pen except for Bard.

Amy, you don't say. I had no idea.

    ReplyDelete
  85. LOL! Well, you might have forgotten since I have missed a few games in the last week....

    ReplyDelete
  86. lester at 100 thru 7. i assume tito is wary of the pen also and he will send him out again.

    ReplyDelete
  87. The shift giveth, but mostly, the shift taketh away.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well, you might have forgotten since I have missed a few games in the last week....

Well, I miss games myself, but I remember all the important stuff. :)

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ramram? Our lead isn't big enough! Tito, what are you thinking!?

    ReplyDelete
  90. OF taking BP these last two nights.

    ReplyDelete
  91. No, we are still in Brooklyn and will be here until next Saturday. Trying to help my daughter through these tough early days. We are also really enjoying the neighborhood when we get a chance to get out!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Lester with a ERA around 2 lifetime against the Orioles, meaning he would probably have a 1.32 ERA in the NL.

    ReplyDelete
  93. That's great. Those early days are tough. Such an anxious time and a true feeling of being overwhelmed. I'm glad you're there with her.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Joe Buck even sounded better with Mirror on the broadcast. He didn't waste any opportunity to give Kevin some shit.

    ReplyDelete
  95. First FOX broadcast I enjoyed listening to.

    ReplyDelete
  96. i'm surprised samuel didn't get himself tossed a long time ago. this game can't be fun for him to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I guess we are Ram ram proof now.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I love it when we play the Orioles. Kinda helps to forget that sweep earlier in the season when saying that, though.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I guess we are Ram ram proof now.

I think we are Boof Bonser proof at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  100. remy likes what samuel did in getting tossed:

"at least samuel is showing that *he* has some fire"

    oh please ........

    ReplyDelete
  101. yeah, Boof hasn't recorded an out this year.

    ReplyDelete
  102. So like I said... WE NEED A BULLPEN.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Boy, this is taking forever.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Umps taking a dump?
    Getting some food?

    ReplyDelete
  105. They probably shot gunned some beers and took gravity bong rips.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Where is Joe West? He must hate that replay rule.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Dirty water.

So odd watching on the laptop.

    ReplyDelete
  108. It's Robert Friggin' Manuel, Amy!!! He ain't gonna be on the ALCS roster!

    ReplyDelete
  109. It's Robert Friggin' Manuel, Amy!!! He ain't gonna be on the ALCS roster!

    Huh?

    ReplyDelete
  110. I thought you were criticizing our pen tonight for the 2-run dong in the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Just got home from work to see the final score. I was wondering how far up I would scroll before I saw this

    Amy said...

So like I said... WE NEED A BULLPEN.

    Not too far!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Well, I was. I realized that we were not going to lose this game and that putting in someone like Bard would have been ridiculous with an 8 run lead. But nevertheless, it just shows the lack of depth we do have in the pen. To be honest, I had no idea who that pitcher was! (I was watching on the computer with the sound off and was too tired to look up his number.)

I remain worried about the pen. I know I am not alone, but I guess I am just fixated on it. Even if every player on the DL returns, we would still be hampered by an ineffective bullpen.

Just saying... I guess I say it too often, given Laura's comment. I will stop harping on it and find some new theme to vent about.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Amy, I was only being silly. Harp on whatever you like.

It's true our bullpen has issues. It's also true that a nobody put in to close out an easy win ("Robert Friggin' Manuel") doesn't need to be perfect - we get the win, we save more valuable arms, and we don't have to care about his performance. Those guys play a role, too.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I knew you were just teasing me! But I do feel like a broken record to myself these days. It just breaks my heart when the team puts in a great effort, both the starting pitcher and the position players, and then some jerk from the pen blows the game. OTOH, watching Joba do it is great fun!

I totally understood why Mr Nobody was pitching the 9th. I was just on my usual rant, thinking Tito will leave him in til we are just three runs up and then bring in Papelbomb to blow the game.

I have to get a life!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I have to get a life!

    Or a bullpen.

    ReplyDelete
  116. LOL! Thanks for the laugh.
